Watched it over the weekend.
I love the comics, so I was sceptical.
The first few episodes were quite good, they changed a lot but it was still more or less true to its source.
The last 2-3 episodes were pretty boring and it was clear, that they are no longer following the path of the comics.
Spoiler:
Not convinced with the ending, they could have done a lot better, especially if they would have played out the CIA arc, establishing the Boys as a control mechanism for the supes. From there, it could be open ended too, Homelander is out of limits, so they go after other teams in season 2, like they do in the comics. I want to see the X-Men, Avengers, etc. horribly murdered, not continue S2 with the Homelander kid arc, which to be honest, already sounds like a disappointment.
Finished this up over the weekend, really enjoyed it. I think they did a much better job with the "heroes are aholes" thing than the Watchmen movie did. No idea what the comic was like, but I'm definitely on board for season 2... in a year when I forget everything that happened.
We thought it was funny how Hughie was Denis Quaid and Meg Ryan's kid, but doesn't look like either of them.
Compared to the comic, Butcher is more obviously manipulative of his colleagues, we know much more about the Seven (only Starlight got any real development in the comic) and The Boys’ families and a lot of the plot elements were crammed into season 1 (the plane crash in the comic was the 9/11 attacks, took out the Brooklyn Bridge and happened before the story began).
There’s much less shagging on the show, too, and the tone is more grounded (in line with how comic book movies in general are compared to their comic originals).
It’s less to me that the Supers were aholes and more that’s they’re just people, and people tend to suck, but their power let them better leverage their suckiness. Some of them definitely needed to go down, true. I was still rooting against Butcher at the end due to him going way overboard and generally being straight up “racist” vs Supes.
The undertone of the story should be that everybody should thank any God they ascribe to that Clark was raised by the Kents. Homelander is like Batman's worst nightmare come true.

the ending was a tad out of nowhere but I'm not entirely sure its not the crazy inside Butchers head playing out in a coma, although given he's not, as far as we know, V-boosted like the comic surviving that splode is a stretch
also no Terror, poor show...

Watched the first episode. Decidedly meh. Wife fell asleep. Does this get better?
Was not impressed with Karl Urban in this, frankly all the characters in the first episode are just unlikeable.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

I enjoyed it, a lot. I like superhero stuff, and seeing the "backside" of their lives is interesting to me.
I have no prior experience with the Boys, or Preacher, so I can't compare.
For me, I'm an ends justify the means kind of guy... but the final scene of season 1? Huh-zah. That's a punch right in my unsuspecting kidneys.
That said, what shades of grey this show has! The monster hunting the monster. I have no idea where the show is going next season. I was not expecting that twist. I very much would recommend this show.
Homelander is an awesome bad guy. They getter not try to redeem him, he's like a combination of Lex Luthor AND Clark.
On the flipside, The Deep probably has the most complete character arc in this season, I actually want to see him become a badass good (or at least sorta good) guy after a crisis of faith.

Same - watched first epsidoe as mate thought it was awesome - just thought - so what.
The blonde seems quite nice but everyone - and I mean everyone else are just prize dicks. I guess its just supposed to be dark world where everyone is horrible.
Ah well might try another episode.

So far, Butcher and the Seven are as bad as they were in the comic. Hugh is worse, and I’ll need to wait and see how that affects the story going forward. Mind you, since this looks like it’ll be the usual, carry on until it’s cancelled without a satisfying ending, it probably won’t matter.
They did seem to have a very immature excitement about using the C word and some male nudity....ohhh shock horror.
Big deal - Sparticus (awesome series) has been and gone, that sort of thing was just run of the mill background stuff.

Sparticus was indeed a pornacopia of flesh and stylised potty mouthness goodness, I recall there was a fight scene in a brothel where its only when the fight winds down that you notice the horde of naked extras
