There was some discussion previously of the imperial fists sgt with 1 1/2 helmets, but no one mentioned how odd the powerfist with a giant imperial fists icon on it directly below the shoulder pad imperial fist icon.... looks a little silly.

There was talk and pictures explaining it in this thread IIRC, no idea what page you will have to look again

Or, and I realise this might be too out-there for some people ...

Don't use a shoulder pad with the Chapter icon on that arm? the intercessor sprue has a studded shoulder pad, so use that. Or a Deathwatch pad, one with Terminator honours or the sergeant's own heraldry.

I wasn't saying you couldn't make it work. Overall I like the imperial fist upgrade sprue better than the others. Seems like an artifact of being designed separately from the model itself.

Honestly I'm not sure if it's even seen as a bad thing or a problem by GW. The amount of blood blood and wolf wolf in other chapters kind of suggests this. It's just that now Imperial Fists get the plastic treatment, it's catching up with them.

I don't know how GW's digital sculptors go about their job, so it's hard to say for certain, but I imagine that they didn't just take an asset, slapped a fist on it and called it a day instead of at least fitting it to a body once (digitally, of course) and seeing the end result, and make sure the parts fit. I imagine it would be hard to miss by the sculptor.

I don't think anyone's saying it won't physically fit, are they? Just that two Chapter icons on the same arm might look odd.

Paint them different colors, make one a chapter symbol and one an honor badge or relic.

No, I was just saying I'd be surprised if GW doesn't check if the parts fit during design. So I'd be equally surprised if the designer missed how those two fists look next to each other on the final model.

Ah, yes, I see. It's hardly without precedent - the Blood Angels Captain model for Games Day a few years ago (the one from the 2nd edition 40k cover) had a blood drop symbol on his power fist, after all, and Marneus Calgar has Ultramarines symbols on both his fists.

Anybody else noticed the fist symbol on the power fist is a right hand rather than the usual left hand?

Well, that's terrible. Now I'm glad I haven't bought the box yet. Spending money on that would have pissed me off.

I'm also starting to regret giving GW's designers the benefit of the doubt. How is it that every time I say something nice about GW it doesn't even survive to the end of the day?

Several explanations for this. Pick the one that best suits you.

1. It has been seen before both in existing miniatures and art. Some of that art has been mirrored to fit the book it appeared in.
2. The 3D model was mirrored by the person composing the sprue.
3. The Codex Astartes states that changing iconography from time to time is encouraged to confuse the enemy (not making that up).
40. It's a mistake and therefore...
a) HERESY!
OR
k) a slight annoyance which should be fixable by anyone competent enough to be building the kits

I favour 40k.

So did the same designer who made the Grey Slayer bolters made the power fist?

Looks like they’re testing the waters for carrying specialist games and heresy stuff in stores.
