Its really hard for me to tell the difference besides the first one.

but il say 6. some of the other ones look heavily washed and a little too "dipped" for me.

Well, apparently I can't count. There are actually only 7 models lol. In the original link #4 and #8 are the same miniature.

Yes that is by design. I was trying to determine what shade of khahki I wanted and also wanted to test 2 different versions of a WW2 Wermacht uniform.

I voted 1 because, at the risk of going all Lars Ulrich, I also think the others are too 'stock'.

I picked 3, looks more multi purpose like MTP camo, or you could go retro 2nd ed style

well, with 8th having spesific rules for each identified main division and usualy having the main feature style army have the overall best rules, you cant realy blame people for going defualt style.
(i went with grey and yellow shoulder guards just to stand out)

You seem to have changed the order between the first and second sets of photos. I voted for #1 in the first set, but that's #6 in the second set. So your poll is probably borked.

I actually liked #6, but voted for #4 due to the wash. The #6 one ended up looking like a dark colored blob without any visual interest.

That seems to happen with most painted guard I see, though, as who wants to spend the time to highlight that many chaff models,

I might advise maybe thinning your wash with a medium to reduce its potency to get a more subtle effect while still allowing you to paint quickly. Another trick is to gloss varnish them, and then wash. This makes the raised surfaces more difficult to stick to and the wash settles even more into the recesses and doesn't shade the high points as much.

apart from two looking darker (5+6), across an army I would probably use all of 1-4 and 7.
On seperate units of course, they are similar enough to give a consistent tone to the army but vary enough to give a bit of variation, like they had slightly different experiences but still one regiment.
I would be temped to use 6 for tank and artillery crew.

Thining the wash isn't a bad idea - it would make it subtler though a couple of coats might be needed.
