I’m not very good at naming things so I thought I’d just ask other people for suggestions, my chapter is a group of Horus Heresy marines who got trapped in the warp for a while, my lore behind them is that they’re basically loyalist elements of the traitor legions during the heresy (these boys didn’t join in the evil and stuff) and they’re just a “free” chapter.

To help with the name, might help to first decide which Primarch their Geneseed derives from?

A lot of them are ex-iron warriors if that helps

Usually is best to have a couple names to pick from, maybe even do a little mix and matching from the different ones below

Ferrous Wanderers
Iron Skulls
Titanium Falcons
Iron Teeth
Twisted Metal Legion

If all else fails, there are some chapter name generators online - go through a couple hundred till one sticks.

Are they repentant, or...?

In my own lore I’ve created for the chapter, they are considered traitors by the imperium despite still swearing fealty to the emperor.

Whether or not you like these examples, my process was basically to take the first word that popped into my head after reading your description - "abandoned" - and type it into an online thesaurus to see what interesting words might have the same meaning.

Or, just go with Cadbury's Miniature Heroes.

Brothers in Rust? Steel Ronin or Steel Knights Errant or something like that?

You could go with the Iron Warrior's theme.

Highly polished, to counter the 'darkness of the legion' :Chrome Warriors

Darker: Tarnished Warriors

Highlight their imperial loyalty: Iron Eagles/Iron Aquila

Reference battlefield repairs: Coldforge Warriors

Capitalize on the 'Fallout' of their situation: Steel Legion

But seriously. I do like Forsaken Legion.

Forsaken Legion is an awesome chapter name.

I REALLY like the "sons of iron" that was suggested. If I were naming my own chapter, I wouldn't put forsaken/abandoned/forgotten etc in the name.. as I dont think the marines in the chapter would pick a condescending adjective to describe themselves. Steel Hearts/Iron Hearts if they see themselves as "cold" and seeking forgiveness/redemption.

I’m still not sure about the name, I like forsaken legion but if someone had a name they thought was better I would be willing to hear it.

Consult with http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Space_Marine_Chapters to avoid duplication with canonical chapters, but also note what's not taken.

I note that Iron Eagles isn't taken as a chapter name.

The Iron Hearts are already a canon legion. Their primarch's name is Rubinek.

Iron Eagles would be cool, but then you'd have to convert a Louis Gosset Jr mini, ally them with Valhallans, and pretend F-4s are Thunderhawks.

I 2nd... 3rd... whatever the name Forsaken Legion or maybe just "The Forsaken"

Could also go with "Iron Ronin", perhaps to the theme that they view their Primarch dead to them (due to the dishonor of him going traitor) but they wander without a lord to serve but are still remain loyal to the Emperor.

I really like Forsaken Legion, especially "Forsaken" as it really translates the feeling they are experiencing with the accusation of heresy. "Legion" sounds nice but I feel like another word might fit better, something along the lines of "Forsaken Guard" or "Forsaken Crusaders" maybe ?

I'm not looking to steal the show on the poster's thread but I thought it best to not start another thread on the subject. I'm starting to paint my Dark Angels successor chapter and so am looking for a name and a background. Their aesthetic are rather sober (I'll include a pic to illustrate) with the only shiny ornaments being painted silvery or warplock bronze. I want to depict a certain sobriety in ornaments much like Dark Angels by excluding blingy metals and so wanted to find a name that combined their origins (DA), the presence of iron as a symbol, and maybe the themes of silence, angels and such.



However with this line of thinking I feel like I'm either being cheesy or too reminiscent of Iron Warriors if including "Iron" in the name. Thus far I've thought about:

Iron Angels (too much Iron Warrior-like)
Knights of the Shroud (too long to my taste, one or two words sounds catchier I believe)
Repenters

The last one looks best to my ears but I fear it sounds too classic. Fluff-wise it makes me want to do an angrier version of Dark Angels, I'm talking Asmodai-levels of fanatical devotion to their cause, the anger and radical methods included. I kind of like this idea because it allows me to play morally ambiguous Marines, justifying my games at the store against any armies, like the Custodes I faced the other day. The Custodes could have been defending the place and my Interrogator-Chaplain was certain they were hiding a Fallen or something along these lines, just over-the-top zealous guys.

What do you think of this ?

None of these are bad things.

Iron Eagles chapter colors...Iron for the Aquila, obviously, and maybe sky blue and grey?

Since people seem so interested in helping with the chapter, I was wondering if someone could tell me if my chapter master was iron warrior-y enough.

Also on a side note, do these model parts look too far from 40k? (Wanted to use them for custom termies)
