In the grim darkness of the far future, war rages throughout the galaxy. Mankind is under siege on all sides from xenos, heretics, and the taint of chaos. The Space Marines, the Imperium's finest soldiers, bring war to the enemies of man. Theirs is an endless fight, as they work to save mankind from all its foes.
Dis ain't dere story...
Somewhere in deep space, a bunch of Orks have done da impossible! Dey've tricked da Imperium into thinkin' dey'z Spess Mehreens! Da stupid 'umies ain't eva gonna know what hit 'em!

-Shas'o R'myr, Deffwotch

Ever since reading that, I've known I was going to make my very own Deffwotch Kill Team if for no other reason than to plug da stupid 'umies at BS 3+. The resulting miniatures are some of my very favorite conversions to date. I am planning on painting them up in a classic Deathwatch paint scheme with their original chapter shoulder pads painted up to represent which clan they are from. I present "Da Deffwotch":

Group shot

Leader - Watch Sergeant with power maul and storm shield.
I wanted to justify the 3+ invulnerable save that the storm shield confers without modelling a big shield which didn't seem to be the most orky thing, so I put him in terminator armor.

Sniper - Veteran with power maul and combi-plasma.

Heavy - Gunner with infernus heavy bolter.

Combat - Veteran with heavy thunder hammer.
I copied Teek's fantastic tankhamma, albeit not nearly as skillfully. This model is by far the least converted of the bunch.

Kannon Guy! - Veteran with frag cannon.

Hopefully I'll be able to get these guys all painted up in the next week or so. Thanks for looking!

They are awesome mate!
Can’t wait to see them painted up.

Plans for any more? For campaigns or alternate lists?
I feel you should at least make 5-10 after these

These sort of armies are always the best.

Any plans for dreadnoughts, terminators, etc?

As of now, I only planned on making a small squad for Kill Team. Eventually, I suppose I will have to model some more for alternate lists. Pretty sure it is safe to say I will not be expanding it into a full 40k army, though that would be totally awesome and maybe I'll inspire someone to do just that. Of course, as I am typing this I am brainstorming ideas for a dreadnought for the group. I'll have to think about that...

I finished up the leader yesterday. He is painted up as originally coming from the Blood Axes who are known to be decidedly un-Orky in how they often copy the Imperials. I had trouble finding reference material for a definitive and easily recognizable color scheme and/or pattern for Blood Axes, but I think it came out pretty well regardless.

One more finished up. I decided to paint the combat specialist in a Goff scheme. Two down, three to go.

Three down, two to go. I painted up the frag cannon gunner as Evil Sunz.

Finally getting around to posting the last couple boys in my kill team. I am quite pleased with how the whole squad turned out. They are not quite as austere as a typical Deathwatch kill team, but then again they are Orks cosplaying as 'Umies. I have parts ordered so I can make a few more to round out my options on my roster. As of now, I have planned a new combat specialist and a black shield zealot specialist. That will leave me with three more bodies for expansion, but I do not have any ideas on what kits I want to build after. Anyways, the completed Deffwotch Kill Team:

Heavy specialist from the Deathskulls.

Spoiler:

Sniper specialist from the Bad Moons.

Finally a group shot of the kill team.

Two more boys join the ranks of the mighty Deffwotch. Both are fairly simple conversions: a black shield with a power maul / boltgun and a veteran with a power maul and combi-melta. I am currently working on three more boys, but they are extremely conversion heavy and the going is slow. Hopefully, I will have them finished up in the next month or so.

Updated group shot.

These guys are great. Nice idea well.executed and great painting. How can you tell that the bad mood dude is a sniper?

Thanks! I built that sniper rifle in a fit of kitbashing without ever checking the scale against the model. At least no one will ever have to ask which specialist he is.

Two more units finished and one 80% built. I am super pleased how the heavy specialist with the back mounted frag cannon turned out. I think he may be my favorite out of the whole lot, though the comms specialist is going to be pretty fun once I finish him as well. I just have some greenstuffing to do and I've got to build his gun before I can paint him, probably another week or so worth of work. After he's finished, I am calling this project done.

I finally finished the last two members of my Deffwotch Kill Team: my comms specialist with frag cannon and a chaplain commander. I am extremely pleased with how both have come out but especially the chaplain. The conversion and painting I think are some of the best work I have done to date. Anyway, I am officially calling this project finished.
