Good - and relatively inexpensive - water filtration systems exist today. I have a Brita filter on my kitchen sink that works wonderfully - what comes out tastes far better than bottled water that tastes of plastic. And it's a HECK of a lot cheaper per gallon than bottled water too.
I try to explain that to people, and yet they still buy those stupid, awful-tasting bottles...
Don't forget the synthetic estrogen released by the plastics, especially when they're left in the sun.
That's also a big thing when microwaving stuff in plastic containers.
No wonder the young girls look... bigger... now than they did when I was that age...
That's something I looked into and aparantly there's no conclusive proof of that, but I always make sure to put my stuff on a plate anyway

Actually that is not really true.
We are just more aware since negative news sticks with us more and thanks to the Internet and social media we just get more of said news faster and direct.

It's way past time to face the fact that our grandchildren will be lucky to live to old age. 400ppm of carbon in the atmosphere was the point of no return and we're well beyond it now. This new interest in saving the planet by declining to use straws is the classic case of people wanting to signal some empathy without actually making any real sacrifice, or to project an image of being wow such topical. Of course we've got a wash of entrepreneurs looking to cash in on your false empathy, new straws made with different plastic will help you feel good about ordering your 4th starbucks in that disposable cup. The time to be concerned about plastic waste has, once again, long since passed us by.
We can only hope there's some kind of cosmic karma aimed at the type of people who said "it was pretty chilly today, global warming must be fake news." Future generations won't be able to hold them to account for their greed/ignorance/sloth.

I'm not a tree-hugger by any means, but I do the paltry normal stuff provided to us by local community (i.e. recycling etc.). However, I fully agree with the above poster...90% of the stuff people do, particularly in the US is simply virtue-signaling. Doing something to feel good, rather than do good. This is doubled up on by the guilt-laying media and advertisers, companies, etc.
There are massively more important things to consider with regard to the future of the planet than most consumer goods. However, even addressing those flies in the face of its biggest challenger - population expansion. While we're not running out of room, the population expansion is still borderline exponential isn't it? While I understand it's declined in the US a bit, and Europe, etc., we're still looking at an ever increasing earthwide population - correct?
I admit I don't make a habit of studying it all too often. If it is still heading in the same direction, then almost all of the minor stuff we're pretending to do to stop damaging our environment is pointless. Cut emissions by 50%...and then double your population = back to where we started. Maybe bought yourself a few years?
On the plus side...at some point humans will right this issue, or the Earth will. It's just musical chairs to see who's alive when it happens.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.

a LOT of stuff corporation do is not entirely based on manufacturing limits (besides like maybe metal production for construction or industrial applications that require VERY specific ratios and control) but based on aesthetics. im no plastic wizard but imho i feel like its possible to recycle at least 80-90% of most plastics but it isnt simply because of the color mixed recycling would make. but thats my tinfoil hat speaking.
for example i know a lot of farms throw away blemished and weird shaped produce just because it wouldn't look nearly as nice on the stand. some process it into other goods like canned or dried things but i dont know what % does that.
I work in the steel industry(structural/rebar) and can say ~95% of all steel production done in America is thru recycling. The other 5% is roughly super specialized metal alloys that require certain chemical comps that only come from raw iron.

Automatically Appended Next Post: Take a look at where major ocean oil spills have happened in the past, they are now pristine and beaming with life Well........ IIRC some areas of the world have top soil problems. Many beaches have sand problems. so maybe i mean you can have disasters like Chernobyl and come out with an amazing wild life sanctuary. but then all the day to day stuff like pissing out your antibiotics and medicne has effected fish. same with all the small micro plastics that are found in all sorts of aquatic wild life. besides the chemicals (though i have no idea what the effects of micro plastics has on the food chain.)

Beaches are going to need more sand, for people to stick there heads in.
Microplastics are on the millimeter scale, there's no such things as "dumb fish vs smart fish" when this stuff is being taken up by tiny organisms, consumed by larger ones and moving up the food chain.
A shark sure as heck isn't going to be able to tell how much plastic is in the belly of the ffish it eats, no matter how smart it is.

If I understand correctly, you have a theory that fish can become immune to the effects of radiation by being "clever" and so fish should be able to become immune to plastic in the same way.

Well the fish are fine around the coast of japan where Fukushima happened right?, like my point is there are places where massive ship oil spills have happened, and 40 years later life is beaming and pristine.
its possible for some thing to Gain immune systems over long periods of time that can handle stuff, look at cockroaches and other filthy things.
When i say intelligent fish, i mean fish that are not going to be effected the way the ones that were effected were effected.

Radiation is a naturally occurring phenomenon which all life has been exposed to forever, and evolved mechanisms for reducing the damage.
Plastic is not natural. Oil is not plastic, although plastic is made out of oil.

It seems like this is some kind of reaction to having so much information available - there's a real mentality of "I've never been more than 5 miles from my house, I don't see it therefore it doesn't exist"
Ironically the information age has resurrected the mentality of medieval peasants.

1) no understanding of what plastic is
2) no understanding of how it impacts the biosphere
3) no understanding of how fish work
I don't really feel a need to bother tbh. It's blatantly obvious.
