“Assault marine” and other names (Blood Claws, etc.) from zamarian’s Post above seems to indicate these may regular marines and not Primaris.

I think it’s hilarious - I was just commenting in another News/Rumor thread yesterday that I was shocked this hadn’t already come to pass - that GW was leaving money on the table for not having already licensed out 40K/AoS figures as Funko Pops.

But did Games Workshop approach Funko or did they approach Games Workshop?

Funko turns anything even slightly of pop culture value into a figure, so it wouldn't surprise me if they had approached GW a couple of times over the years before they finally caved / decided to go with it. If you're doing a 40k Monopoly game, might as well embrace it wholly.

Agreed. Bobbleheads aren't something Kirby's GW would have embraced as a botique manufacturer of fine miniatures...

Maybe here as well, dunno. It really depends on the final product for me personally, as I am not a massive fan of the Funko brand, with one exception..

No, I’m quite keen also. I don’t “collect” pops, but the occasional one can be fun.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I have the odd one from various things I like.
People go mad on collecting proper.

Also be noted they aren’t Bobbleheads, that’s a small side range they do (small in pop terms anyway).
Pop vinyl are just collectible figurines

Though originally they were a bobblehead company, it is the vinyl Side that’s huge. The Con exclusives etc, and the main range as it were.

It's no surprise that the first ones would be Space Marines the most iconic figures of 40K. If they sell well other non-marine figures are sure to follow.

I have bought maybe a dozen Pop! figures over the years. Just to stand on my shelf. Dredd, Alien, Predator, Conan, Batman... If I really like some movie or comic or game (like the Alien movies for example), I'll get a Pop! figure to stand on my shelf.

I will be getting one of these to represent 40K to stand on the line.

I like the Pop! figures, but am not a huge collector.

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.

It's mostly disbelief tbh. It's not like these are "proper" collectibles, they're not some holiday souvenir tied to a precious memory, they're just mass-produced shelf-tat - I think many of us just can't fathom why anyone would buy them.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

It all comes down to the sculpts and paint.

I have a homebrew chapter, so MAYBE I get one to repaint in my own scheme..

Wonderng how long it will be before someone buys a "squad worth" and tries to play them in a tournament..

They’re not spending money on it. In fact, they’re making money from it by licensing their IP to Funko.

W... what do finecast replacements have to do with this? Like, at all?

By the way, I think we all get now that many people don’t like pops. Obviously you don’t have to buy them, and I’m very sure they have no influence, whatsoever, on GW’s own production schedule. So why do you feel the need to inform the rest of the world you don’t like them? If I had to tell everyone about all the things I don’t really like, I wouldn’t get anything done.

In any case, I don’t really care about your opinions, but it would be great if this thread could be about actual news for those who are, in fact, interested.

A lot of characters are still in finecast and need plastic versions. They are investing money in funko.
I do not think that's a good business decision. I get the idea behind diversifying the market and branching out, but funko seems to be an odd choice.

Why do you have to need to tell the world that you don't care about my opinion? I don't really care about your opinion about my opinion on their venture.

Isn't there still some sort of investment involved though?
I mean, if they don't have to pay anything then its great, as they would get back considerably more than they lose, thereby resulting in more funds to make models and to finally phase out finecast.
If they have do have to put a money into it, then that's a bit more tricky.

Leaving aside opinions about opinions, I’m quite sure that the whole point of Funko is that they acquire IP to make Pops and other products from. Presumably the IP owner either gets paid for granting permission, or they get paid some kind of percentage on sold Pops made from their IP. Either way, the IP owner (GW in this case) will probably spend no money on this, and apart from some minimal Marketing efforts, signing contracts and approving the Pops themselves, virtually no effort either. They will probably be making money and it will have no negative influence on their own production whatsoever.
