Excellent work! I was a little sceptical looking at the base model, but you've done a superb job of greebling it up and hiding the base model in most cases. Looks great now.

Looks excellent - really fits with the 40k aesthetic. You mentioned earlier about it being motorised, is that still in the plans - looking forward to seeing the video of that Any plans for LED lights as well?

Thank you ever so much for the feed back so far! Nice to know some people think that this isn't a total waste of my time

So I have been quite busy with this really, got the side skirts looking okay, got the top turret built up and then added the front and rear walkways to cover the coupling that finally came! Been waiting ages! Which then meant I had to get the track out and measure curvatures and everything to make sure it would go around the corner, make the heights and also not make them look stupid! So with that done, it finally meant I could do some more work on the gun carriage and make it look a little better, there was something about it that put me off doing anything on it, as it didnt feel right. But with the addition of a large platform on the back to accommodate the coupling this seems to have quelled that, and adding some details onto it.

Whilst cleaning my friends house out I found a 1/16" hole punch, which my mind went RIVETS. And I mean a lot of them, this is meant to be industrial as well right! So it needs lots of them, it also works as it breaks up the large flat surfaces on the model. So it should come out nicely when I get around to adding paint to this.

As per the motorising, the AA carriage will be motorised, as it will hide it. But more of that later! Because I class that as a stage 2 project, I would like a break for a while from staring at this, so the goal is to finish the Loco, gun carriage and the first flat wagon. Then I will have a break to focus on my Bolt action force for a campaign and then I can come back to this with a mental break! As per LED lighting, I thought about it, but decided against it because its a lot of work on top of this silly project that I would rather spend time and money on other things!

As i keep mentioning, DONT LOOK AT THE CRACKS! haha! The filling and greenstuff should be completed as soon as the flat is done, I am purposely holding back from doing it as for some reason its a massive negative for me sitting there and doing that task, so again waiting till i can prepare myself for it!

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy and as always please let me know what you think! Also looking through them when I was uploading, my phone seems to have become awful at taking photos so sorry for the lower quality than expected..

Thank you!!!

As a squat fan, i can only bow before this model.

You manage to give him a good 40K style.

Yup, of various kinds (both traditional rail and maglev, there are probably some references to even more esoteric train types somewhere). GW themselves even converted a pretty cool armoured train on rails for the original Apocalypse release- it was used in the Cold Steel Ridge battle report on Macragge.

One of the recent FW HH display boards (Battle of Calth) has a damaged freight maglev along one side of the board in a spaceport container shipping yard.

They also occasionally feature in artwork, particularly of Hive cities. The Cities of Death expansion had a Hive city sketch with a maglev running through the middle.

Plenty of precedence Considering how efficient and practical trains are, it would be more surprising if they didn't exist in 40k.

Hello all sorry for basically abandoning this thread! I have had some pretty rough times the last couple of weeks but I am getting back up and running, I have been mainly focusing my efforts into Bolt Action but also decided to use my train as armies on parade so Hopefully tonight I can update you all with some photos of the project so far.
The train has not progressed too much other than being undercoated and base coated as I have mainly been focussing on the board. I have however made the power car to still use this as a toy and that is now working so can be detailed at a later date!

Sorry again all!

Little later than planned but here at the updates. The first part of process that I had was making the power car that means it can still be used as a toy with all the tracks connected. Given the weight of the new driving car and gun truck, I decided that it would need a 2nd motor bogie to be able to power it. This meant that using the other loco toys I would need to get out the dremel and have a good chop up session and get the soldiering iron out to rewire it. Here are the photos of the work that I did including the first rather failed test run of the power car. I had to take the sides off the loco so the bogies could turn more freely which would allow them to go around the corners.

The next load of photos are of me building the board for the armies on parade. The idea that I have for the board would be use the train as like a Planetary defence force unit with my Armageddon steel legion models on the running sides and my taurox in a blue scheme defending against some genestealer cult jeeps. Which I want to be being engaged by the train to add a bit of a display piece for the train. Photos of the board being built as well as a couple of all the things together.

[/url]

And how the board currently sits ready to have plaster placed over it and then I can start painting. Hope you all enjoy the slight progress.

Awesome. I love how kitbashes look after priming.

Choo Choo!

Ahem, I mean cool 40k train. The priming certainly brings a completeness to the modelling. Really nice and solid gun train.

The AoP base is great too, really neat idea to build the train in to it. Will enjoy watching it come together

Looks awesome! As others have said, priming really brings the whole thing together. I'm looking forward to seeing that board finished and the final Armies on Parade set up.

So the last couple of days since my first major upload was mainly focused on getting the board done. Its now all plastered up and hopefully tomorrow the cliff faces will be all done.

The train was primed a good few weeks ago but sadly the primer for one reason or another did not go on well :( and left a really horrible finish on the model so it really demoralised me. But today decided to do something about it, so using diluted IPA and toothrbush washed the whole model down to flatten the paint out to lay down a better primer which hopefully should be going on tomorrow.

Used the time to try and do a bit of filing down to make some corners look a bit nicer.

As per the AoP board my army is only small, its a commissar and his 2 squads of steel legion and a Taurox. We house rule the Armoured trains as two leman russes. My theme is a PDF force who are there to patrol an industrial planet and they are there to protect the supplies moving from one block to another via the planets extensive rail network for moving materials. And to make the board a diorama to show off the train and as a display piece I am going to model it in action blowing up a pesky raider from a new "gang" that has been noticed by the PDF commander. Orders are shoot to kill!
(I really love coming up with themes)

UPDATE Here is what the board looks like so far, with the ruined primer it has allowed me notice some extra areas to file down so had a go at that as well. should look okay when done!

That's such a bummer about the primer, glad you managed to fix it though!

Here is another update for you all, the primer was sorted out and then Citadel's The Fang was used to basecoat the model and the coat has gone on wonderfully and smooth. The weather held out long enough for me to do it.
All the infantry are now undercoated, the Taurox, the train and lastly the railway tracks all sorted. So i can now begin to paint at my leisure.

The main part of the project was the board to display the train on and managed to get quite a lot of work done on it. It is all glued together now and after a trip to the local hobbyshop instead of getting plaster moulds from Woodland scenics i saw some cork, so cutting it up and adding plaster has added a really nice effect. Sadly I am busy with work now and have some games of aeronautica and titanicus planned this weekend which will slow my progress, but is now ready for some painting which will really bring out the board.

I really hope you enjoy the updates

Okay everyone, this is a major image overload for you all.
Sorry for the delayed reply to this, it seems that every time that I sit down to hobby something always comes up in life to turn around to me and be like you really are not allowed to be doing this. Sadly my grandparents were taken very ill so that means most of my free time is used visiting or caring for one of them. This meant I couldn't finish the board to the standards I would have wanted. So instead put the effort into finishing the actual terrain piece and making sure I had models actually build and painted to a tabletop standard so I could actually enter the competition. Which is incredible as I got enough votes to secure some prizes too!

So there will be a lot of progress here, I wont bother typing everything up because I can let the pictures do all the work for me, its a lot easier! I really enjoyed making the scenic board, It allowed me to experiment with a new way of painting rocks and seeing how it worked, as i wanted to go for a scenic board with little flock or scatter going down that could clump and fall off in later years. So was a good interesting experiment.

As per the troops I was messing with new contrast paints as I have never used those before, and something called recess washing, again something Ive never done before. I was using the guide to painting a Taurox by GW and used those basic tutorials to paint up the train and it has come out amazingly! Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can get back to painting up the train and super detailing it. But for now I have always said that after AoP I would finally build my Aeronautica. Ive been waiting for the game for a long time and its just sat there waiting to go, so for now. That is where I am headed off....

Please enjoy the photos!

Sadly not, a great deal of family issues still happening and work just killing all of my free time sadly, I did some cleaning up, stored the bored and put the train into the cabinet, sadly thats all ive done, I have this week gone through all my spare parts and decided what to keep and what to bin, so I have enough spare parts for three more wagons to slowly work on alongside the other projects i started sadly.
Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks dude, sadly there is a bigger project that is taking my time at the moment, I collect old military vehicles and have been offered the chance of collecting some WWII parts! So preparing and working on that, however I have just been to a "warboot" and sold a lot of my unloved and unused kits, which allows me to sort out the projects.
My old armies on parade board has just come up to buy again so I have nabbed that back off the previous buyer, but I have the power car for the train and the plan is to convert that either into a flat bed for transporting tanks, or use it as a mobile AAA platform as I have some hydra tanks spare and some cool looking quad lascannon turrets. Thats the plan! Just will i have time...
