A Protoss colony world

If time and money were no issue, I'd probably start both Sisters and Astra Militarum. I've had my eye on doing up an Astra Militarum army in the style of British WW1 Desert troops (with Pith helmets and stuff) for a while now. I'd have to get third party models for that (looking at Anvil Industry currently), but it would be cool and much more unique than the ubiquitous Cadians you see everywhere. As for Sisters, I'm confident the upcoming plastic ones will be awesome, and Raging Heroes does a pretty nice line of "not-Sisters" with equivalents for Battle Sisters, Repentia, and Crusaders, plus a lot of characters that are really awesome if I wanted to go that route. I like what I've seen from the beta Sisters book, so I'm sure the full codex will be pretty awesome even if it's not top tier competitive.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Space Wolves for me. I’m currently looking at trimming what I do possess for marines, but if I had the time, space and money - Space Wolves would be what I reach for.

For me, I'm already going to put all of my time and money into Sisters of Battle when they come out, but if I could do something ON TOP OF THAT, then I'd do Genestealer Cult. They're getting such a cool update and everything looks awesome. I'd probably convert them to be regular freedom fighters rather than alien madmen though.

T'au, with all the FW gubbins thrown in and because I have never collected them.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

If I had no money problems, I would probably buy a PC, but if it had to be a new army, I would buy eldar. They are never a bad faction, FAQs and errata come out and their best units stay the best for an entire edition.

May I suggest DKoK for WWI-style armies? They look much more like WWI armies where current Imperial Guard seems to be leaning more toward WWII. That said, I have seen some excellent conversions of current IG models to make them look more like WWI troops.

Here, we see a rare example of a species once thought by science to have finally been driven to extinction, a veritable living fossil...the WMH wargaming snob. Its natural habitat has nearly been destroyed by a disastrous new edition, terrible and overpriced plastic/resin miniatures, lackluster fluff and the killing of official community support.

I already play Sisters of Battle, which would obviously be my first choice of "armies I'd play with a infinite budget." $10 an infantry model makes my wallet cry! It's nice to see SoB at the top of the "if I had money, I'd play them" list, though.

But, since I already am a Sisters player, if I were to make another army with a bottomless wallet, I'd play Elysian Drop Troopers.

If I were to pick up a new army considering my real life budget, I'd buy Grey Knights.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I have a dream of making a highly converted, every-model-customized Word Bearers army. I'm actually, very slowly, accumulating bits when and where I can (cheaply) to this end, but it's going to take ages to get to the point where my modeling/sculpting skills are where they need to be to realize it in a manner worth doing.

Not the mention the time and money to work on it...

Might be a little easier if these teases for new Black Legion models actually pans out.

Well, as I already have Orks (though there's enough stuff I'd love to do but will never get around to that it might as well count), I'd probably say IG. I've always wanted one of the more "40k" regiments that really leans hard into the ridiculous gothic-ness of the setting , but the toll in time and money would be insane. DKoK, Vostroyans, or an army based around a mountain of Cawdor boxes and bits (so many candles) would be amazing, though.

Alternatively, I've always had a couple of runner-ups in the back of my mind (we all sit around thinking about this, right?). The first, a massively converted Carcharodon army with heavy Polynesian themes (armor painted with intricate black and white "tattoos", toothed weapons, the whole nine yards). Primaris only (models, at least - I know they'd be among the last to receive/trust them), but I'd be torn between taking them in a more traditional, gritty direction or going whole hog on the 40k-ness and running them as Custodes stand-ins with converted AoS Deepkin sharks as jetbikes. The freehand work alone would be enough to make either effectively impossible, though.

Secondly, a complete daemons army themed entirely around Tzeentch. Tzaangors for Bloodletters, the Gryph-chargers from the Stormcast Vanguard-Palladors as juggers, gryph-hounds as hounds of khorne, mounds of brimestone horrors as nurglings, etc.. Not sure it'd ever see much playtime, but it'd look great.

Worth it just for this response.

[slow clap]

If I'm being completely honest Warmachine had plenty of issues of it's own. It's core rules make WH look like it was written by a spastic baboon, but it definitely had issues with model bloat and balance issues within each faction. Whatever other complaints I might have with GW, 40k has never made me as angry as Warmachine did when I was playing it.

Honestly, Grey Knights. I *love* the models, and if the investment in time and money wasn't an issue I'd definitely give them a go. We don't play competitively enough for their currently poor rules to be that much of a big deal. Besides, I have my Drukhari army (that I started collecting back in 7th edition) if I want to kick arse...

He's out of date. The correct terminology is

All Eldar = Aeuuuhhghghlduhhrieieyei.
Dark Eldar = Drew Carey
Eldar = Asseryanny
Harlequins = Haerleequnz
Corsairs = Squats

On moon miranda.

I have a GK army I need to finish, but I'd also really like to build a Custodes army at some point.

A World Eaters army has also always been a back burner project id love to try.

FW's lack of support for rules and some kits has rather soured my desire to transition my DKoK and build out a full infantry army of 'em unfortunately, as that would be my next fantasy project.

I clicked on "other" because, if I had the time, since I have the money, to paint an entire 40K army I would find "other" better things to do with my time and money.
