Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

I want to get some custom dice to the following specifications:

1. QTY.50 - QTY 1000
2. 12mm D6 dice
3. Koplow-type rounded edges, not Chessex-type rounded edges.
4. Standard engraving on 2-5 die faces.
5. Yellow die with red pips (Angry Marine colors)
6. The "1" face should be a middle finger. Literally. Like ..!.. but a powerfist giving the bird.
7. The "6" face should be an angry marine logo.

8. If required, the die can be red die with yellow pips instead, with the 1 face having that logo.

I've had no luck so far.

-Chessex doesn't make non-over-rounded 12mm dice. Nor custom 12mm dice. 16mm dice are too big to roll 50 at a time.
-Koplow doesn't appear to make custom dice, or dice for private parties.
-Q-Workshop wans $4 per dice.

I looked at ArtisanDice, searched reddit, Amazon .... I could use some pointers.

What you want doesn't exist:
* 12mm dice are all rounded because they're mass production.
* square dice are larger, casino spec, and not custom

You will have to commission them as special production. I suspect your best bet will be to try the various precision dice manufacturers on Kickstarter, and see if any of the will make what you want.

Search for custom casino dice.

Found these after a second but I am sure there are loads more.

Casino dice don't work. Those are 28mm precision dice, and I just want some 12mm dice. Not even precision dice, just square. I'm fine with resin dice and regular "square" dice, which is the entire line of Koplow dice. Like these.

Koplow doesn't make custom dice though. Chessex doesn't make square dice.

So I'm trying to find a third option!

We may disagree on the existence of square dice.

This is a block of Chessex rounded corner D6 dice in 12mm size.
This is a block of Koplow square corner D6 dice in 12mm size.

I just want custom versions of the latter with some angry marine iconography.

Ah sorry got my metric to imperial conversion mixed up thought 5/8th was near the size.

How about something like this;
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-Quality-Custom-Dices_1946136828.html?spm=a2700.7724857.2017203.3.4ab47dc8Zp56W3&s=p

Or just search around on Ali and speak to some of the manufacturors.

Hey John!

I was just clarifying in case we were not all talking about the same kind of ...squares? I'd be happy to order some custom dice from a kickstarter sort of place. I've seen people with custom-face dice for their chapters / garrisons / local groups / etc, but never thought to ask anyone where they got them from. What does JFC mean? A classic reply? Did I naively say something offensive?

I'd seen some Alibaba links, but the only time I ever researched Alibaba, I read that its like a scammy ebay, and I shouldn't use it. Is it safe? Do you ever use it? I'm sort of afraid to try ordering something from China.

Yeah Ali is mostly good and in fact I would say less scammy than ebay. Its mostly manufacturers that sell stuff there and the money is held by Ali rather than paypal. The shipping can take a long time but is generally very cheap.

That manufacturer actually says they accept PayPal, so I think there is little risk, long term.

Never seen customized 12mm dice available, let alone ones which aren't rounded. Even the Ali linked company has a minimum order of 2,000 pieces...so at the very cheapest ($0.20) you're looking at $400 minimum.

Chessex will do 16mm custom dice with exactly what you want (though I don't think they have a perfect colour match), but 12mm, squared, custom....doesn't exist.

Wow, I totally misread that page and thought they were $.02 cents a piece. Yeah, that's costly in reality.

Update to my search:

2,000 and 5,000 minimum order quantity (MOQ) is not a show-stopper. I can gift these dice to people. Every time I play someone new, I give them an angry marine dice. I could split them into lots of 50 and sell them down to my own 100 to recoup costs. Anyway:

1. Chessex update: Chessex will never make 12mm custom dice, not for any amount of money. They do make squared corners (like Koplow), but only in a limited range of 16mm, and the color schemes are fixed. So even if I were to agree to 16mm dice, I still couldn't have angry marine colors.

2. Koplow update: Their minimum order quantity is 1,000 dice for custom 12mm dice, and they already make the dice I like. I've asked them (yesterday) to put me in touch with their buyer to work out a purchase order.

3. Q-Workshop: This one has a 100 minimum, and $4.00 per dice. I asked what 1,000 dice would look like, no response yet.

4. BoardgameMaker: Their dice come from China, and from the e-mails I've exchanged, I can't tell if they have 12mm dice or not. 3,000 MOQ and starting price of $.65.

5. There are two other alibaba companies I'm going to look into if Koplow falls through.

Koplow makes excellent products, so if their pricing is decent - that's the way to head.

Man, I hope so. I like their dice. I've got a request in with their buyer to give me a quote to manufacture a line of dice. I called Koplow today, but the guy I need was away from his desk; left my name and number and a reminder that I still need a quote.

Update!

I've been searching hard. I've been on the phone with Koplow a couple of times.

-They originally told me that I'd have to to order 1,000 dice to get a custom order, so I was like, " it, let's do it."
-Today I found some more specifics - they're understaffed and overbooked (good for business I guess).
-I would have to order a minimum of 15,000 dice to get on their production schedule.
-I'd also have to pay for the mold ($1500 - $2500).
-They tell me its doubtful that artwork can be put on a 12mm dice.
-They also tell me that there's no guarantee that I can have the colors that I want.

I'd think liquid red plastic with a yellow dot shouldn't be so hard. And on one side...a bigger yellow dot with a couple of black lines in it.

A nice fellow at Koplow did tell me to investigate two other sources, which are my next avenue of attack:
1. CustomDice.com
2. TSRline.com

Koplow says that they use both of these to subcontract to; I'll see what I can dig up.

THE ANGRY MARINE DICE DREAM LIVES ON.
