Well, the frost titan is about to unlock at $500000 prior to the now unlocked inquisitors the frogs were claiming around $540 msrp for the warlord pledge.

So unless you are really against one of the core sets, the value is there if you can stomach the wait, and from the writeups of the box contents these are going to work as a good starter set, with streamlined rules for town stays and such to speed up gameplay.

They've also teased a campaign system upcoming.

If you are interested at all I recommend the Facebook group, the guys there are compiling the QAs from the kickstarter comments which are a pain to wade through.

Personally I'm in at Warlord, but they just put up the first set of stretch goal monsters for the single sets, and they'll almost certainly unlock the warlord monsters in the Pledge Manager if you only want a couple - they may add them to the KS as optional buys too, probably cheaper than PM and helping with more stretch goals.

edit 500000 passed and titan unlocked as I wrote that.

Just coming back into town. I'll update the thread tomorrow.

Warlord pledge looks like the winner for me. Robots and the Trederran SG1 have got me excited.

Those trolls have got me scared stupid.

Also notice if you don't back warloard in the next few hours the regular price version is limited to 500. Don't know if they'll open up more so it's kind of do it now or never.

They are planning to add more as needed but at some point down the line it may increase slightly in price.

I always love more SoB, but at this point I kind of wish they would expand deeper instead of wider, if that makes sense. Levels capping at eight means I have characters who could still explore all these new settings, but have no reason too. As such campaigns don't last very long in our house.

I'm in, but man, a big campaign book with levels 9-12 and expanded skill trees for the existing heroes would be amazing!

Seems there's been talk of an overarching or expanded campaign at some point.

Don't know if they'll have things for higher levels though. Sounds like they're going to do their own Hexcrawl type thing at some point.

Could possibly be a stretch goal from how things sound.

Also of note is there being rules to use your existing hero collection as enemies at some point...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I was planning to house rule levels above 8. Something I'd love to do is a "find your way home" mission where the heroes must fight through each of the worlds to get back home, and every threat card is replaced with an Epic Threat card, saving the real heavies like Belial and Sho Riu for last. Perhaps the monsters can be persuaded to fight each other, like the monsters in a Sinbad movie...

Not a bad idea there!

Write up some rules for public consumption!

Rules for the levels, the mission or for getting monsters to fight?

For levels, I would just keep scaling up by two thousand points until level ten, then by three thousand points. The heroes can learn a second or third column on their progression trees, etc..

For the mission, I'm still trying out different ideas, but it will probably come down to the patience of the players. Maybe every room can be scavenged once by each player (since they are surviving on what they can forage and they won't start out with a town visit). Heroes can explore and scavenge even during a fight, etc.

For the monsters fighting each other, perhaps a 5+lore, cunning or luck test by a hero on the same map tile as one of the monsters?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Or: a cunning 5+ test, but each activation the monsters attack the heroes instead on a role of 4+; a luck 5+ test, but every hero has to pass it/one has to pass every turn(not sure); or a lore 6+ test that gives the monsters a good reason to fight until one is dead.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And it only works if the monsters are from different otherworlds.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd probably also issue noise tokens, and every monster activation the heroes roll for each noise token. Anyone rolls a one and the monster will make an attack....I'll have to see how easy or hard ut is just to make the monsters fight instead of having to fight them.

I really like the idea of the heroes having to fight their way home, going though (x) levels and (y) bosses in order to be able to finally make it!

Maybe they need to find at least one clue in each world (maybe three, depending on how long you want the game to last) before exploration token portals become actual portals. The world cards can be drawn at random, or in a preset order with The Mines/The Fortress last. Perhaps Mines heroes can get a town break when they draw the Fortress world, and vice versa. I don't have the Blasted Lands, but I think they have an alien town to visit, which would be awesome.

The final showdown definitely needs to happen on the Entrance tile.

You're definitely on to something good here - you really should officially propose this to the Frog, and maybe they'll make it officially...official!

It would be a blast to play out!

Upcoming SG's give rules, stats and cards for enemy heroes teams. Now you can, as a band of Vikings for example, encounter a rival band of Conquistadors or Cowboys in the tunnels.

Only the Japan heroes do not get enemy cards, but they might feature in a later SG.

Cool beans!

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.

I'm onboard, as I was for the first two campaigns.

Full disclosure; I've met the FFP team at conventions, and volunteered to run demos at their booth at Gencon last year, as well as their mini-event held in October called Dice Fest.

So to say I have a positive bias would be an understatement.

I'm really digging the campaign so far. I like that the original two Other Worlds will see some development, and other things unlocked or teased seem to fill out all kinds of elements of the game (eg; some of the monsters seem like they'd fit in really well with some of the mission packs, whether that's intended or not).

I like that it's a shorter campaign, because ye gods am I tired of 4+ week campaigns where the middle 2-3 weeks are doldrums of whining about not progressing. Yeah, having the extra time to get the word out is nice, but considering we're already approaching the same backer count as the second campaign, and at a solid percentage of the funding as well, I'm hoping this one has the potential to exceed KS2 in both, and perhaps give KS1 a run for its money.

Not that big numbers are the sole indicator of quality, but the more people onboard, the more each backer benefits, so smashing some benchmarks and aiming for the stars would be great all around.

That's a great idea for a campaign. Another would be to pick up another hero in each of those worlds, and they are trying to find the library. each time taking another route to a random world. Anopther thing you can do is to use some of those Wyrd miniatures that you don't get to use as much as you'd like. There are quite a few of them that are perfect for the game. ( The multi part build your own character figures come to mind.)

If I never see the words "slap in the face" used without a hint of irony again, it will be too soon.

I can respect that there are reasonable things to find worthy of critique with the product line. The original minis suffered from some quality issues, which they improved in later releases. Some of the minis had some high parts counts (gee, where have I heard that before...) and now many of them are much more streamlined for assembly. I know the gaps can drive some people crazy, but personally I don't find them so egregious as to be a dealbreaker. Yeah, sometimes the time between updates can be a bit longer than I'd like, but they don't work to my schedule. Etc.

I swear, some of these people have never seen a Kickstarter before, and while I'm sure there are some newcomers all over, it's like they want FFP to throw out their plan and just do things their way because *reasons*.

Ugh.

Just had to get that off my chest. And thanks, I try not to be too hardcore of a blatant shill or anything, it's just a topic/franchise/company I'm passionate about, and enjoy the occasional opportunity to share in that with others. When people have well articulated and reasonable concerns, yeah, let's talk those out and maybe make suggestions that could be an improvement. When people get all gakky about things, however, sometimes you just gotta call a donkey cave a donkey cave...

Honestly, I wish it was longer. Needing that amount of money on such a short timeframe isn't something I like, especially with a need to hobby budget.

The figures from the first campaign aren't especially good (overall), but a lot of them are very decent, and even the worst of the ones I've painted are fine in terms of simple wargame models. I'd still compare the worst of them to very, very early GW at best, though. But there's some stuff in there that turns out quite nicely. Sure, they're not 2015-2019 GW quality, but some of them still look very nice when assembled and painted. I haven't done anything on the newer models yet, but if the quality is improving, then that can only be a good thing.

In all fairness though - you do become a bit too rabid in your defence of them sometimes - and from someone who is a Frog backer and regular customer (I think I have all or almost all of their games) but not a superfan - that's just as annoying as when people are overly negative. Positivity is great, but that needs to be balanced and nuanced just as much as criticism - Even if you are their friend/Outrider. Like defending their gakky communication (outside of when it's campaign time) isn't really a hill I'd choose to die on.

Mostly, yes. Some of the larger or multipart models can be modified or have limited posing like the arms on the Sand Crabs or ball-jointed on the big 4-armed dude posted above. I modified their 2 poses of werewolves from the first campaign into four by swapping the legs and torsos and then mixing the two types of head to get a little more variety. If they change some of their models just slightly to allow that sort of thing to be easier it'd be welcome.

Not all of them are. Some are indeed monopose, monosculpt, others have variations. Examples; there are 3 different tentacles in the base game, the Guardian has ball joints on the arms to allow for some pose variety (but it's a single XL enemy, not something people will likely have tons of). The Hungry dead have at least 3 sculpts I can think of (you get 12 of them in the base game), etc.

Eh. I don't feel I treat them any differently than I did back at the start of KS1 in this regard. I've never defended their infrequent communications (at best, I've said that I accept that they share on their schedule, and that I appreciate that when they do have an update, it's usually substantially informative at whatever they're talking about), and have told them to their faces that I felt a regular monthly (or whatever) schedule would be preferable. Managing expectations is important, and when we're hoping for monthly'ish and 6 weeks have gone by, it's not entirely unreasonable to be antsy for them to check in. However, we're on their 3rd campaign in over half a decade, expecting (if not demanding) they change, as some people do, is unrealistic. For good or ill, they have their style, and no amount of yelling about their communications is going to change that. I'm not defending anything, I'm pointing out this argument has been had, repeatedly.

If people are so put off by it, they're welcome to wait for retail and have things land when they land. A KS is an obligation, sure, and I was saddened when they said FoFo would have monthly'ish updates and fell short of that. But here we are. Nobody who has done even cursory research should be going in with expectations any different than what we've gotten over the years.

That said, I don’t think it’s entirely fair to be lumped in with a “both sides” view. I spend way too much time and effort tempering my statements to just be lumped in as 'the other side', as though I'm the Jedi to their Sith or something. If I'm positive about the game and company, it's because that's how I genuinely feel. I also feel that we should be able to critique companies and products we love in order to provide feedback as to how they might improve, but if they haven't improved their communication style in 5+ years, it's just tilting at windmills for people in the comments to keep harping on it. And the criticism I call out is rarely presented in a respectful manner. I can and have agreed with a great many reasonable complaints over the years.

I mean, c'mon. I noted my existing bias and provided several things to legit be annoyed or frustrated by. My apologies if the big block of text comes across as more white knighting, but unlike twitter, we’re given space for context and nuance here, so I tend to use it. :-D

The reality is that I'm not suiting up to defend their honour or any gak like that. They're a company over a decade old that has run 2 (likely soon to be 3) million dollar+ KS's. They neither want nor need my support to thrive. I'll admit I strive not to go too far, especially now that I am occasionally representing them in demos in a somewhat more professional level, but I don't run things past them either. 51 weeks+ out of the year, I'm just some backer who has no compunctions sharing his opinion, and believe that my expressed opinions and experience are worth whatever weight others care to give them. Let's be real, being a notable name in a Kickstarter Comments section is probably below YouTube Comments Troll in terms of the social hierarchy. At least people read those. :-P

Edging up to $900K, depending on the next set of Add-ons & stretch goal reveals I see this probably topping out around 1.1 million.

The Old West antagonists are a pretty big draw for me. I'm in for the map tile add-ons as well. Might need a bigger file folder.

The $1M stretch goal is a tank. Vikings vs a tank might not be one of the classic fantasy matchups, but darn if I don't want to see it.

Please do - it sounds great and should be a lot of fun!

As for this campaign...

$275 gets you just about everything, and then we have a total of 4 kind of 'must have' gameplay options for $90 that add in 16 doorways, some cards and 16 tiles.

I think I want it, but wish that the 'expansion' add-ons had more miniatures too.

But, I suppose all is forgiven with that $1M stretch goal!
