I am toying with getting a Daemons army for giggles. Part of what I am thinking of getting involves some pink horrors. Question: do they still split into blue horrors once 'killed' or is that rule gone now?

Just trying to work out what I need to buy...

They do split, yes. I believe you have to pay for them to split, if you want though; coming out of reserve points.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

You can splot them but I wouldn't recomend it. You have to pay for them with reserve points and you could just put them down when you deploy instead now.

Blue horrors are generally not played in this edition. Big blobs of pinks are great, small blobs of brimstones are super cheap and help fill out battalions easily.

Makes it a bit cheaper for initial purchase I guess then.

They can but don't want to is kind of the answer. Splitting has many disadvantages, you start with the base disadvantages of summoning (having the models not in the table to start with) and the combine with the fact that the splitted models then IMMEDIATELY take a morale test against ld7 the second they arrive.

Hey my opponent killed my horrors, now I have 10 blues thanks to split!

Oh, they rolled a 5 on their morale test and 8 died.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

That's kinda the strength of it though, isn't it?

You had a blob of pinks, 5 died and gave you 10 blues. You failed morale, 8 blues fled instead of 8 more pinks. Now you still have Assault 3 weapons on 25 pinks instead of Assault 2 on 17.

Or you could just run MSU of those horrors on the table all at once and splitting your opponent's fire reducing the overall amount of losses while controlling more of the table. Which is usually better over all.

What you are saying is correct if you absolutely have to take/hold one point of the table and space is limited to fit all those horrors on at the same time, but that is an exceedingly rare situation. Usually better just to have everything on the table at the same time. Problem is, Blue Horrors are really worth having on the table compared to either Pink Horrors or Yellow Horrors (aka Brimstones). Combine that with a lethal game system and the nesting doll tactic doesn't usually work out.
