The thread on Modeling suppressors for advantage got me thinking: does anyone actually like the new flight stands/pegs?

Whatever size you have that matches a good drill bit. Some GW bases have support "gaps" on the bottom you could try to match. I just buy random small diameter brass rod from hobby shops to keep on hand.

Probably the worst pegs/stands GW has ever made, and that's saying something.
I'm baffled that they went from the pretty well made stands that they used for (amongs others) Dark Eldar in 5th, to this...garbage.

I found if you pin the mini to the flight stand it holds well enough, but it's fiddly to get right. Probably would have been better off with the traditional post-up-the-butt flight stand that Tau Crisis suits use.

I liked them when I got the Dark Imperium box... Before I started assembly on the inceptors.
Seemed like a good fit with the pack and left the stick out of way.
Then it wouldn't stay in the same position while the plastic cement bonded(i only ever use testors plastic cement; usually the liquid, the gel would have been worse in this case). Tried all sorts of supports, none worked.
Next set of Inceptors, I built the packs first and glued them to the stand... But I had already glued the stand to the base, which was also a mistake; couldn't get it to lay properly.
Finally the supressors I glued just the base-pack to just the stem(off the base) and balanced/supported the whole thing in the right position. Waited a couple hours for everything to cure before assembling the rest of the model to the pack. Finally worked.
My first incepros wound up having the stands shaved into spikes and drilled into their donkeys; except for 1 who's stand broke and he is almost on the ground in a matrix bullet-dodge pose.

Not a fan of the new ones. I like being able to magnetize and make things plug-n-play and the new stands don't really do that for me.

I like the look but practically they are a pain in the arse. Almost useless. But in that respect they have made me more creative in basing these models. But over all it is a no from me. The old ones were crap too. But now worse.

What boggles my mind is that in fifth, they figured out the technology for "pop fitting' flight stands so you don't have to glue the fething things, and then they promptly lost their minds and forgot how to do that basic thing that toy companies have been doing for ages and ages to allow for a movable/removable ball joint with a tiny interference fit.
Dark Eldar venom from 5E: Flight stand pops into the model, allowing you to take it out, store them separately, not have to feth around with magnets, and tilt it and make spaceship noises while moving it around on the battlefield WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART.
Harlequin starweaver from 7E: Same exact flight stand with a ball on the end, almost completely identical model construction....but for some reason they didn't remember the interference fit so if you don't glue it on the base or magnetize it yourself the fething thing flops over like a dead fish.

And then, after a while, it refuses to pop back in and every slightest touch causes the model to wobble drunkenly about on its stand.
I've literally made better joints using spare parts.

I like the look of them at first. Then I put together an Inceptor. Hate them now.
It wouldn't be so bad if they "pegged" into the model like older flight stands.

They remind me of the awful flight stands from WMH, which have the same problem of being a terrible curved shape that snaps like a twig when the slightest force is applied to something with a really long moment arm.
Like say, the long wing of any kind of flying model.

I measured how tall the Suppressors would stand if they were on those annoying bases. Then, i stacked rocks to that height. It's not modeled for advantage, they're the same height, they just don't have those annoying, horrible bases.

You can't use plastic glue on them - has to be super glue. The trick is to design a prop system using paint cans/olg glue containers/ dirty socks so you can hold it in position without holding it.

I am not a fan of them.
I also find that modeling for advantage thread disconcerting for some reason. Part me knows IRL that I am incredibly unlikely to encounter such a player and even less likely to enjoy a single second in a game with such a player if I did. At the same time, I don't like the idea of modeling my miniatures in a way that I think looks good could get me called out for modeling for advantage.
In that thread, I half joked that there should be floating rocks to flight stand models cover while denying it to close to the table ones. The more I think about it, the more I do think a player that would have an issue with lack of flight stands should actually have terrain that benefits those models and denies it to others. It doesn't have to be a silly as floating rocks but maybe billboards, trees with thick upper foliage, etc. I just don't think whole groups of miniatures shouldn't be able find cover simply due to they way they are modeled.

Eh I didn’t have much trouble with them. Maybe it’s the glue I use? Tamiya thin. I did pin them for strength though just in case after I glue the first one.

I find a combo of plastic glue and super glue works.
I scoured the surface of the stand and the model where the meet, applies a very, very thin amount of plastic glue and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to get tacky.
Then I put them together using super glue and a "prop system" as you described.
Seemed to work fine (if a bit annoying to do). Unitl, that is, my boys were rough housing, bumping into my table and my Inceptor fell off onto the ground and broke.
Worse part about it is that they did not tell me immediately and I had to grill them to admit what they'd done.
