No no, it's just that particular version of the Hive Tyrant. Mostly because it looked like an overgrown Tryanid Warrior and I like those models too, it was nice that the major synaps creatures were consistent.

Also, almost everything in Tyranid line that existed at the time that particular HT came out is still in production. The only thing I'm sure has been replaced is the Carnifex model from that time-frame.

MKIII Power Armour, looked good in metal, look even better in Plastic!

The models I think that have stood the test of time are the original striking scorpions. They look so much better than the current sculpts.

Oh yes.... I've been painting up a small troupe of old metal harlequins as we speak. It's amazing how good old sculpts look with modern color schemes. Really excited to get them finished.

The old metal Ahriman is a beautiful sculpt. Only reason it wouldn't stand up today is because the new one is just as good. The old Ahriman was so good, Typhus wanted to mimic him!

Of all my Finecast Eldar, why were the Harlies the one to get plastics?

(I know why, but it was one of the best Finecast kits I've picked up.)

Original eldar aspect warriors, warlocks, and farseer.

Azrael (though small, as mentioned). Ezekiel is pretty nice too. Dante.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the 2nd Edition Space Hulk terminators (Rogue Trader). They were my first minis, and even though 3rd/4th edition minis are more detailed, 2nd edition are still my favorites.

That pose is just commanding. Makes me think of Captain America. It don't matter what is going on around him....he is calling out some foe and leading his brethren to war.

For fun building the 3rd edition+ marines, I can just sit there bashing them for hours.

In fast any of the 2000s era plastics are just a lot of fun to mix and match.

For metals the original Necromunda range and 2nd edition IG definitely.

And of course I have to put in a good word for my current obsession, the Adeptus Arbites.

Njal Stormcaller in power armour. Still looks good, even being a 1st edition miniature. Also, one or two Eldar Warlocks were introduced in 1990, but were only discontinued a couple of years ago. They'd still fit in well with an Eldar army.

Kid_Kyoto, good use of those fantasy Wizards there.

I'd say many of them. But then, I'm partial to the older, sometimes goofy style.

Definitely Ezekiel, the Aspects and (controversially) the Phoenix Lords, Fareers and Warlocks, the sadly OOP "Night Lords Hero" and others, I'm sure.

Most of the sisters range, including the priests. Missionary with a chainsword in particular was one of my favorite models to paint and just screams old school 40k.

Yep, some of the models that accompanied the angels of Death codex were outstanding (Tycho, Ezekiel, etc)

For me it's the 2nd edition Eldar Warlocks and the Falcon. I've seen a couple of mentions of the Vyper here, but the Falcon came out just 1 year later at the tail end of 2nd - 1997 I think? Hard to believe that it's 22 years old. I think on both of those the vehicle itself holds up but the crew not so much - and they're less prominent on the falcon, especially if you paint the canopies.

Also the terminator chaplain that has already been posted. I was so pleased when I managed to get a metal one on ebay for a reasonable price.

I love the Falcon. It’s what got me to start Eldar, and the WD where it premiered is the first one on the shelf. Aesthetically, it’s a solid today as when the bonesingers first crafted it. But those sprues need to be recut desperately. Mold lines, soft details, and as you mention, the crew could use an update. Now it does still hold up, and I’d rather they put the effort into plastic aspect warriors. Many of the old Eldar plastics are like that. Old, serviceable, but compared to what they can do today, showing their age.

Azrael, still an awesome sculpt even after all these years.

Lord Solar Macharius. Best looking IG officer then and now.

All the old metal guard are miles better than modern miniatures.

The reality is that tech advanced, but art doesn't "advance" with time. Computer generated models may allow more options and better/crisper multi-part plastic kits, but there are loads of 90's miniatures which are aesthetically far superior to later offerings (particularly GW's "Dark period" as I term it - the early-to-mid 2000's where sculpts got REALLY poor...).

Mutilators...Obliterators...old school Plague Marines...the quickly forgotten Aspect Warriors which were so gak they re-sculpted almost immediately, etc....yep!
