Found this today by a Facebook friend(s) sharing it. I just...A band that isn't just awesome but cosplaying as Transformers. My nostalgia is through the frigging roof. I remember when I was like very young, 3 or 4 and I was obsessed with cars (the Herbie movies, especially, must have watched them over and over again) Then one day I was watching tv in the morning and Transformers came on and, well, it was like it was as if a show specially made for me lol

Have been binge watching "Screen Rant Pitch Meeting". It's been super easy, barely an inconvenience.

It's Alive with Brad cracks me up. Mostly cooking show with a fermentation theme, but there are some episodes were they go see how stuff is made/procured.

Dead Meat.Horror movie theme channel. My brother and I love the kill counts and I also enjoy most of the podcasts.

The Hot Ones. Guests are interviewed while eating progressively hotter wings. Some people arent faze by it others start falling apart.

Others mentioned Binging with Babish and Steve1989.

I dont think I saw anyone mentioned miniwargaming. They do try to get you to sign into their paid membership in their videos but they still put out a lot of free stuff. They've got a couple different guys doing warhammer battle reports.

Hah! My friend recommended me 'Pitch Meeting' and I gave him a binge-watch too and while I'm not a fan of Screen Rant, he's great, his personal channel is funny too! Nope, I haven't heard of The Protomen, I'll give them a checkout! Thanks!

I've been following the cover artist Jonathan Young for a while now and while I think he can be a bit hit and miss (I didn't like his cover of Escape from the City he recently uploaded, that much) His cover of Gotta Catch 'Em All with the original singer: Jason Paige is amazing, though. Jason Paige is the MVP of that cover, he's awesome, it's way better than the original and this is from a former Pokemon fanatic when I was a child. And his cover of the One Punch Man Season 1 theme I think is also better than the original (I hope that doesn't seem too blasphemous lol)

Used to enjoy Classic Game Room as Mark provided fun reviews instead of holier-than-thou nitpick fests.

Infinite Waters. So many "just quit your day job" and "ignore negative vibes" gurus out there, but Ralph is more chilled out and relaxing. The "can I get a hellooooo there" might not be everyone's cup-o-tea.

OMG. How can one not mention Micheal and Kathleen in such a topic? God lord their videos are a great tonic for a bad day at work...

Big shout out to DizzyFinger who is a keen Adeptus Titanicus player and host of the game. I don't speak a word of German but somehow I enjoy his videos all the same. His games have a great balance of units and lead to some rather epic battle reports.

GMG and Tabletop minions. Always good fun to watch while assembling'n'painting.

SNL and Key and Peele. Some misfires but mostly good crackers. The best ones are where they break character!

Loads of others I just can't remember at the moment....

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

I feel like I should like Tabletop Minions more than I do, but I just feel like it is a wee bit longwinded for not much useful content. But as an "editorial" channel for Wargaming I haven't found a better one.

Can't believe it was three pages in before someone mentioned RedLetterMedia. One of the funniest, if not the best, film review channels on youtube. Started with the 'Mister Plinkett' Star Wars prequel reviews, continues with reviews of current films, 'Re:Views' of older films, and laugh-riots at old B-movies, straight-to-video, and plain weird VHS randos. All very cynical and mocking, with some swearing, but with genuine analysis too.

The Mighty Jingles was mentioned too. Recently he's started on miniatures and tabletop gaming: space marines, guard, and WWII soviets. It's fun watching him discover and rediscover the techniques and ins-n-outs of this hobby.

Oh, and there's a channel with what looks like every episode of Shooting Stars uploaded.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I don't know if this crosses a line as he's an outspoken atheist and skeptic, but I'm a fan of James Randi's videos.
Most of his youtube videos rail against quackery and (fake) psychics though, which should be safe enough, I think.

He's a very entertaining speaker, even well into his eighties (or nineties now, I think).

Ted Talks are occasionally interesting, but depending on the breadth of your interests very hit-and-miss because they're all over the place topic-wise. James Mczveitch (I think that's what he's called) adventures in trolling internet spammers are absolutely hilarious though.

For those of you also addicted to Magic, I generally like Reid Duke's videos/tourney reports.

Can't believe I didn't mention this the first time: Atomic Shrimp.

https://www.youtube.com/user/AtomicShrimp

He's an english youtuber whose channel can best be summed up as 'pottering about'. A lot of people come for his scambaiting series (stringing along email scammers) and a lot stay on for the random 'I youtube what I like' videos: 'weird stuff in a can' (food unfamiliar to us brits), random recipes, vintage tech, fake tech products, local nature, and so on. It's netted him almost 500K subscribers.

Just James Veitch, Bran. He cropped up on Conan O'Brien a few times as well - for example...

I still want to know where you get the last one from.

Anyway... I follow a mix of channels on YouTube. 81 subscriptions, at the last count - not sure how I got to that point, but there you go. A few rough groups...

Makers - Woodworking, messing around with resin, occasional concrete.
Adam Savage's Tested - Primarily for the One Day Builds, though some of the other content is good, too.
Colin Furze - The guy's just made a screw tank. In a shed. Need I say more?
Laura Kampf - Really stylish videos, made by a German maker.
Mark Rober - Ex-NASA engineer makes weird projects, once a month. Creator of the Porch Glitter Bomb Anti-Theft Device
The Hacksmith - Amongst other things, currently making an Aliens powerloader suit.
Jonny Builds - Man mostly makes furniture, occasionally involving concrete and/or resin
Peter Brown - Crazy man abuses resin. Want a cereal bowl made from cereal and resin?
Alec Steele - Blacksmith.

Super Mario content - Mostly Super Mario Maker (1 & 2), but other content also shows up. A lot of these can also be found on Twitch, timezones permitting.
CarlSagan42 - Has been known to make evil troll levels, play other people's evil troll levels, and occasionally talk science.
DGR - Definitely the most family-friendly of the Mario channels I watch. Admits to having a brain the size of a cashew.
FreakAndGeek - Australian Mario player. Also known as "The Nor Lady". Coiner of the term "Yeenis".
juzcook - Another Australian Mario streamer. Has an ongoing troll level design competition with Carl, which the rest of the community... "enjoys".
ryukahr - Really laid-back guy, who also happens to be really good at Mario.
GrandPooBear - Probably the guy who works "blue" the most. Also really good.

Music - Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Barenaked Ladies - One of my all-time favourite groups
Marty Ray Project - because you're all about that beard
Steve 'n' Seagulls - Watch for "Thunderstruck" alone, though "Born to Be Wild" and "November Rain" are also up there.
PostmodernJukebox - Great reworkings of songs. "Creep", "All about that bass", "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Evolution of the 'Friends' Theme Song" are all recommended.
Puddles Pity Party - Definitely a character, also with a great voice.

Other - A few random offerings
Chris Van Vliet - Really good interviewer. Primarily wrestlers, but not only.
How Ridiculous - Three crazy Australians and, for the last year, a dinosaur.
Physics Girl - A woman, explaining physics. Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Rick Smith Jr. - Card thrower extraordinaire
Talks at Google - You're unlikely to want to watch all of them, but you'll find something of interest.
UpUpDownDown - Wrestlers playing computer games (outside of kayfabe)
YongYea - Games journalist
Games Done Quick - Does pretty much what it says on the tin.
SmarterEveryDay - More science stuff
VSauce - "Hey Dakka, Michael here..." (more science stuff)

2021-4 Plog - Here we go again... - my fifth attempt at a Dakka PLOG

My Pile of Potential - updates ongoing...

CinemaSins suffers from claiming their work is satire, when it isn't actually satire of anything. Many of the mistakes they make in their Sins videos they also make in their videos which are supposedly serious reviews. Their videos also have incorrect "sins" (such as the countless times they give a film a sin for not explaining something when the film explains it later on) sitting next to sins for genuine mistakes. This blurs the line, making their claimed "joke sins" indistinguishable from legitimate complaints about a film.

With how many people there are making great videos about film and media (such as Lindsay Ellis, HBomberguy, Chris Stuckmann, George Rockall-Schmidt, etc.), CinemaSins only serves to lower film literacy due to their laziness.

CinemaSins was good at their early days when they kept the videos short and sweet and actually listed real problems with the storytelling and plots. But since then they just started to amuse themselves by lazily listing 'flaws' most of which aren't actually flaws but just some weak jokes. Also the videos became way too long, I don't want to spend 20 minutes on an incoherent list of 'flaws'. In general that is why I don't watch youtube all that much, too many people who love their own voices and just don't know when to stop rambling. Even if they make good points, I don't have time to watch 25 minute long video on a subject if I can read an article about it in 5.

At least Pitch Meetings tend to be short and to the point. Honest Trailers too, though they seem to be losing their touch a bit and their recent efforts have been definitely lazy.

Plinkett is bit of an exception here as he is usually so entertaining I don't mind the length. Though his best days seem to be behind him too - I tried to watch his Picard rant but he was just incoherently babbling and not making any points so I gave up. I guess he was method acting the character a bit too well...

Yeah the RLM Plinkett reviews can be pretty fun, albeit it can also start to run a bit samey. I much prefer their Best of the Worst and re:View videos.

Isaac Arthur. He's a futurist and the topics he tackles in his videos are fascinating: Dyson Spheres, Swarms, Matrioshka Brains (which makes me think it's all the more possible we could be all living in a simulation) The Fermi Paradox, how we can Industrialise Mars, how we can communicate with aliens in the future, etc. Just too much interesting stuff.

Frank James, he does funny short skit videos about the different Myers-Briggs personality types, I used to use it as a characterisation tool back in the day and he usually hits the nail on the head especially for my type; INTP.

Seth Skorkowsky does funny and interesting reviews of Table Top RPG module reviews, but most especially Call of Cthulhu which I really enjoy.

I like this channel called history matters, you should check out one of his videos, will only take about 4 minutes. There are many Youtubers who do tf2 I enjoy, because I play that game and I like to meme, ok? When it come to hobby channels, I like the usual ones, midwinter minis, goobertown, but there is also a smaller channel called snipe and wib, and they mostly do podcasts and video games, but also have a codex complaint series that goes over some of the older codexes, and one of them also has a channel called wib does stuff, but all that's really there is a showcase of what he paints every month. Oh, and can't forget the like of kuzgesaght (or however it's spelled), and cpg grey, who do science and related, and also this channel called shadiversity, who does things involving medieval weapons (I would strongly recommend his rant about Japanese swords, it is humorous). And these are just the ones I watch that I can think off of the top of my head.

I really enjoy the Fall of Civilizations channel and associated podcast. As the title suggests, it walks you through the slow, sad collapse of once mighty civilizations, the factors involved, and what it might actually have been like to feel the world you knew slip away like that.

The Greenland Vikings episode is particularly haunting, I thought about it for days.

Modern History TV - Guy wears armour, rides/trains horses and experiment archeaology/tries out medieval stuff

Foo the flowerhorn - Its a youtube channel about fishkeeping
