Shame GW does not have the creativity to come up with something totally original.

Few have come through unchanged - Nagash, Gotrek - most have changed to a greater or lesser extent.

There is plenty of new and original work in the AOS background

The thing that bothers me is how easy is to lose track of where exactly is the story taking place. I blame realm hopping and not enough time to read everything in one go.

Other than that I appreciate what both settings offer. Hope they release more new stories.

Well one of the things people were wishing for at the launch of AoS was more continuity with WHFB. GW is giving the fan base what they asked for. Some more original AoS characters would be nice, all we have is the dozens of main characters driving the lore forward that are totally original to the setting.

It's not helped by the fact that GW hasn't got a single time-line date system for the series. You're basically down to things like pubilcation order and if events are after or before major named story moments.

Eg you've got the great ages themselves - mythic, chaos and sigmar. Then you've got major events like the start of the Realm Wars and the Soul Wars as well as the Necroquake.

So you can roughly date events based on those things; but there are loads of stories which are much harder to place as htey have no story reason to reference major events and its clear that in the wake of Sigmar opening the gates there's at least a half dozen or more generations who have grown up post-Age of Sigmar beginning. Stories like Heat of Winter have only casual mention of long passings of time with even aelf characters not having grown up under Chaos and with a mature city scape and trading system that clearly displays several generations of humans far removed from the yoke of chaos, and yet the war continues on the boundaries of these regions.
Then you've stories like WarQueen which only make casual mention of the greater world setting and thus are almost impossible to accurately "date"

My hope is GW bumbles around for a bit more with the lore and then invents a new time keeping system - a universal time for the realms. So that they can start to build some sense of order into their core lore. With the time between then and the Realmgates awakening being a period of confusion as Stormcast drive chaos back.

TBF Heart of Winter is a side-sequel of sorts to Callis & Toll, where it is established that the Realmgate Wars had been a number of generations prior.

I haven't given the 40k background the time of day since the return of Guilliman, but I was under the impression that GW went out of their way to do away with timelines and exact dates in 40k.

Not sure I'd expect GW to go the exact other way around with Age of Sigmar.

Eh... IMO what matters is the time of the event as it relates to others that are relevant to it; the exact date doesn't matter. If a novel happened after the realmgate wars but before the necroquake matters, but if it happened before or after some other novel set in a different realm doesn't.

So I recalled a small hintish bit; there is a snippet referring to a giant flying vault/abandoned city having scavenging armies trying to get in. It lays out the three 'airborne factions' as being KO, Grotbag Scuttlers, and Skryre. Seeing skryre referenced alongside them like that makes me wonder about eventual airships for them. It isn't the only reference we've seen, but the nature of it seemed more concrete than previous mentions.

I want to know more about the little snippet in that short-story they posted on the Warhammer Community site where the Skaven accidentally burrow into a stormvault and see 'an army of automatons' before they're massacred by the gondola skeleton.

Skaven have a number of air fleets mostly based on the Much-great Sky-kill Air Armada

yep - writing articles can be quite tricky trying to work out when things happen on comparision to other things!
