not sure why you would ever use the redeemer tbh. the basic one get 4 lascannon without -1 to hit for move and fire. The crusader can fire 24 bolter shots in a turn, 28 with a storm bolter. Redeemer just seems pointless to me.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

LRR gets to mostly ignore - to hit shenanigans with the auto-hit flamestorms. Also, painful to charge. If you are using it to deliver troops, overwatch can be nice to have. Sure, one grot touching the bumper will prevent your shooting phase, but you got most of that in when he charged you

For the most part I prefer to field my classic LR over my LRR. Hard to go wrong with the godhammers these days. But I’ve had fun burning things as well. One of these days I need to paint up the LRC bits to swap out...

Agreed, the Redeemer doesn't have much of a niche in my opinion. The other two have uses, though are still quite expensive for what they do.

The redeemer used to be really scary before 8th, as it could disengage and unleash the flame templates of murder.

Such a simple rule would make it usefull again.
Currently even ita overwatch can often be denied by a wall or a 9"charge

As a non-marine player I still fear the redeemer most, partly because of its overwatch against a melee charge, and also significantly because its main weapon does not degrade with damage. Also its short range synergises with its role as a transport - it's going in close to kill you with Terminators and Flamestorm cannons, it doesn't pay for 48" range weapons which it will end up firing point blank anyway...

On the other hand, in games where it gets blown off the table turn 2 it will often not have had a chance to shoot at all, whereas Lascannons would have.

As a space wolf player i use the excelcior from the index in my wolf list when i take one. Its got a built in reroll 1's and 5++ save, plus is a chr so you can get all sorts of shinanigans with it. I thought they were going to faq it last big faq but they still haven't so yeah, it can get kinda broken funny. Make it your warlord, give it armor of russ and the warlord trait of the bear, enjoy your land raider with reroll 1's aura, 2+/4++/6+++ save. Put a rune priest behind it for -1 to hit for further survivability and potentially moving cover.

It's nowhere near optimal, but I've had fun running my Land Raider Redeemer loaded up with Vulkan He'Stan and some Combi-Melta Sternguards, charging towards the enemy and once Vulkan get's out, re-rolling all failed wounds with the Flamestorms. Degrading profiles doesn't hurt it as much since the flamers hit automatically.

I hadn't noticed that the Excelsior is a Character, that's hilarious. Merciless Logic (Iron Hands) plus the to-hit bonus for a nearby Rhino Primaris gives you lascannons that shoot again on a 5+ to hit.

And on the subject of bad advice, don't let anyone tell you the those big flying transports are good substitutes for Land Raiders. They'd be on to something if it wasn't for that pesky "if all you have on the table is dedicated flyers then you lose on the spot" rule not taking loaded transports into account. You could easily deploy your entire army embarked in them, with the small downside of instantly losing on deployment.

I'd definatly go with a LR Crusader. they're a solid varient especially if your local meta is infantry heavy

Id go with a Land Raider magneticus.

though if you had to build one fully then id say crusader if you plan on using it as a transport.

joking asid though i am interested in how land raiders do, I do have 6 of the bloody things though 4/6 have never seen a tabletop other than my painting desk if that counts.

They're not as tough as an Imperial Knight for the points, so the answer is "not great". They get erased way too fast for something that expensive.

Besides the invul though i figure its way easier to hide a land raider than a knight. i think it has its place on certain types of maps with terrain.

Honestly none of them, LR are pretty crap in 8th ed.

If the LR was 200 points stock then it would be worth looking at but its currently garbage. Reason being a large amount of the point cost is for transporting capacity, which means you will also need to load it up with good units, lets just assume TH/SS termines, so no you have a 500 point unit, that puts out less damage then a knight, that can pop much easier then one, which on a roll of a 1 you loose a 20+ point model.


Avoid.

To many unpainted models to count.

Personally I'm a redeemer fan, but thats cause I play grey knights, I'd go for the crusader with space wolves. they don't generally have a lot of shootyness if your playing something like a bloodclaws army so it could be good.

The correct answer.

Every time I've tried to use one it's just never been worth it. Fill it with expensive and scary close combat troops? Great, now over half your army is bundled into one neat package. Use it as a fearsome MBT, lascannoning your opponent's tanks off the board? Pretty much any other combination of troops and vehicles is more cost efficient. Dakka the opponent down under a hail of bolter fire then charge the remnants? Goo dluck getting into range without some random dude tagging your LR in close combat and rendering all those points useless. Even worse, the shape of the LR means it's really easy to lock it in combat.

A GK redeemer is a brutal counter to eldar flyers.It teleports behind one and auto hit it with two weapons, that ingnore all the minus to hit, while at the same time two units of interceptors shunt in front of the flyer to give it a taste of the good old incinertors.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Flamestorm Cannons can't shoot after teleporting - range is only 8".

I always thought that the GK Land raiders had hvy incinerators with 12" range. I guess GK can't have nice things.

Wait, what? Care to site a page?

(Not that I'm doubting you, I just want to be able to point to it in my LGS.)

Edit: So if I go first I can move the transport turn 1 and drop my army where I want it turn 2, but if I go second I have to deploy turn 1 or else my opponent can say "I end my turn and win" on their second turn if we're not playing the CA 2018 missions.
