I have magnetized a few figures as Terminators, Defilers and Forgefiends, but recently put together a Rotigus Unclean one and was wondering if there were other options then magnets since the arms arent solid.

I have built models with long pins & tubes to hold arms and such in place, but it is less secure than magnets. I've also sued turret bayonet fittings (where they have 2 slots on the hole and 2 tangs from the turret, so it pushes in and then rotates to lock in place, and only comes out again when rotated to the specific position) to hold limbs onto a deff dread. Some kits have ball joints which can pop in and out, which are useful. I once used some bionicle bits to try and make a gargant, but they took too much force to pop in and out so I scrapped the effort.

'Than', not 'then'.

It depends where you are magnetising, at the shoulders, the wrists, or elsewhere.
Also, what are your goals? I assume swapping weapon options while keeping the number of bodies to a minimum.

Newer models are often connected with oddly-shaped joints, and getting a magnet in there while getting the pieces to connect can be fiddly. Especially the shoulders, which I have had with Necromunda Goliaths and Sylvaneth Kernoth.

How do you mean about the arms not being solid? Is there a gap where the arm-side shoulders fit the torso? Fill it with greenstuff and mount the magnet in there. Or, cut some sprue, glue it into the gap, and mount into that.

As said though, pop-fit options around available. I wouldn't know where to look for them, but for 28mm scale, I expect they will be flimsy if not make for this purpose.

There are 3 pieces on the Unclean one that can swap out for other parts, left arm, head, right arm. One option is making Rotigus.
The head I might get away with using velcro since there is a gap but the right are and weapons are hollow, just the edges connect.
The left arm socket is solid/flat but the left arm weapons is open with just edges.

I would use sprue for this

long before there was magnets, there was pins.

you take a paper clip, cut it to length,, find a drill bit at the same size, drill the removable part and glue the pin in place with super glue.
then drill a matching hole on the non removable part. gotta be presice tough.

then you use a tiny, tiny amount of blu-tack to hold the part in place.

MightyQue,

I assume that you mean not solid in that because they are two flat surfaces and the magnet does to hold the limb up.
If the arm or weapon is dropping because the weight despite a magnet, just add a hole on one side and a brass pin on the other and that will support the heavy limb (like what FrozenDwarf said, but you can still use the magnet to keep the item from falling off.
My Necromunda Guard Senitnels had the issue with dropping weapons (especially the metal ones).

The pins are just some brass rod and a simple hole was drilled into the Sentinel ahead of the magnet, you can just see them ahead of the magnets is the photo above.

Hope that helps,

CB

There's also Legos.

Don't know how best to describe the specific bits in English, but a male like piece would snap into a female like fitting. You'd have to scavage several kits to get the good pieces in decent numbers or raid your offspring's stash.

Not good for all situations, but some.

That's a really good idea, I'm looting that one!

This here is my advice as well. Fill the hole in, then magnetize like normal.
