Same with Slambo. Sly Marbo, who is a meme character with tons of Internet appeal, still available at some stores.

The SM Lieutenant with the Stalker Bolt Rifle? He sold out in an hour at the store I go to. Space Marines sell. They have made other limited models. They do not. Get over it.

Just to correct this, Severina Raine was never a limited model She's a regular stock item and not even a direct exclusive which is why you can still find her without issus. As is Marbo i believe. And that Stormcast is gorgeous. Gonna need a couple of her at least.
I stand corrected on both. Though Raine still hasn't sold through her initial stock. I am going to grab at least one of the Sergeant and that Stormcast. I like to paint my female models to resemble my daughter (she has red hair), this one will be too.

Space Marines are their top selling army for their top selling game. if they want to release a model that the most number of their customers might find a use for then yes it will be a space marine
And I bet these decisions are backed up by years of sales figures too.

right and this goes beyond mere "corperate greed" they release a mini for a special celebration event and presumably they want something useful to as many customers as possiable (I mean the ideal would be a special character for each faction but that's simply not something that they can afford, so they go with one char for each game) so what do they do? they choose a character usable by as many of their players as possiable. this is a space marine.
Said space marine can be used by space marine players, obviously, which account for the majority of their customers. doubly so when you consider this can be used by blood angel, space wolf and dark angel players all. ohh and death watch assuming the shoulkder pads aren't part of the arm

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I don't think most sensible people object to many of the special models being the Big Popular Superhuman faction, or even most. It's the fact that it's almost every single one that's utterly tedious.

I mean, remember when Event Only models were just cool minis that didn't necessary fit into an army release? Or were themed along with that year's "big deal" release for their system? Black Orc Warboss, that Skryre-ish Skaven Warlord, Gorkamorka Nob, Female Commissar, Kroot Shaper, Archaon on foot, the Daemonslayer, the Orc Boss with his wee goblin, Chaos Sorcerer, Marco Colombo, just from Gamesdays. Then you had that run of FW Event Only models for a while like the Navigator, Titan Princeps, Davinite Priest, the Imperial and Ork pilots, the Slaan, Renegade Ogryn, Death Korps mounted Commissar, the Runtbot, Enforcer, Skinwolf, Chaos Dwarf Hellsmith, Empire Warrior Priest, Krieg Quartermaster - and sure, there were almost as many years when the 40K release was a Marine of some description, but the point of special event miniatures was to be something cool and unique for collectors and dedicated fans, not to provide one single faction for each game with variety in character models denied to all the others by the advent of all-plastic and No Model No Rules.

"Big Supeyheroes sell the best" is one reason for GW to do what they do now, it's not the only choice available to them, and it's not a reason we have to accept.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

While people have said that Marines are the posterboys of 40K and sigmarites are the posterboys/girls of AOS it would be nice if they cycled through the various factions.(I mean, they kinda do but it's super super slow and inconsistent)

Didn't they recently have a Nighthaunt as part of their 500th store celebration?

given these are birthday minis, that would achomplish very little save the inevitable thread every year of "OMG ELDAR HAVE BEEN WAITING 11 YEARS FOR A BIRTHDAY MINI! AND ADMECH GOT ONE THIS YER! HOW DARE THEY PRODUCE ANOTHER IMPERIUM MINI" it's an additude all too common,

It was also a Nighthaunt for the last Store Anniversary model.

Indeed, this is the first Stormcast model for a Store Anniversary.

Still holding out hope the Rebranding Models (Terminator Chap/Cap, Stormcasts) will be on sale on Warhammer Day. I wants one of each, and can see myself Looting a fair number extra.

I do agree with the general consensus that they should try and get some other factions into the special editions. Chaos space marines at least.

I think the real problem with the constant stream of 'special' Primaris marines is that most of them aren't particularly special. They're just, like this guy, a Primaris marine in a new pose.

There's nothing about this model that says that it's 'special' other than the really badly sculpted ork corpse on the base.

That is what made the Captain with the Power Fist so cool. He had an all-new loadout that the other Primaris Captain couldn't get. And truthfully, requires three separate kits to obtain the parts necessary to create a custom version without modifying parts (Dark Angels Primaris LT for right-handed Plasma Pistol, Imperial Fists Upgrade for the Primaris Power Fist, and whatever a person uses as the base model). Same with the Nighthaunt model, it wasn't something you could get at the store in a different pose.

I am still getting at least one of this guy, but I agree, this model isn't exactly special beyond his pose ("Where did I leave my bolt rifle?").

If they were special, then people complain that there's a unit that you can only get on special occasions (although the Stormcat model does have special rules). I like that these are just unique models, not unique units.

It's an unusual pose for a Marine, but I like that; most of these models will end up as display pieces, I think, so they might as well look interesting.

I wasn't saying that they should have unique rules, just that they should look like something other than a slightly reposed, bog-standard marine.

This guy doesn't look like a display piece. He looks like a Primaris marine.

That Noise Marine, now... he's currently sitting on my painting pile. That's a special model done right.

We had one, once. It was a limited edition metal Lictor in the 4th edition army box.

If you looked really, really closely, you could see the slight difference in the angle of the scything talons from the standard model...

Also, there was the termagant on the dissection table from the Skullz program.

YMMV. I think that'll look good on a shelf. I agree the 40k 30th anniversary marine was a little dull, though.

Part of the gripe is these one off plastic 1 character sprue are popping out while some codexes are really struggling with even basic characters/ units being very outdated or gakky resin because we are told repeatedly how expensive injection molding & design is. Of course people are being peeved off lol.

TTBH I don't even care if its SM. Just make it so its not dave. generic primaris #1234... Also know as dave sword-in-ork-head-primaris... Honestly don't care if its an Imperium...At least make it a terminator, librarian, a space wolf or anything else really...It doesn't have to be my faction. Make it a necron.. an ork.. even a grey knight. Anything as long as its unique enough to want to pick up for collecting & painting purposes/ used in Killteam...

I think these are supposed to be more as a piece of art collectabile than a game piece. I get its nice these are also functional but are they... though.. really ?? I just said other models can be used in any kill team. When was the last time someone went: "Hmm...lacking low tier SM character for my army I need another one?"

That Noise marine was sweet tho.

I read this thread and I am wondering if I got into some bizzarro world where everything is the opposite. Especially on Space Marine whining (which is especially hilarious when you consider all they got within last 18 months was a single release, half of monopose box that is about to be discontinued, which had extra terrible rules to boot). Yes, they got all of two special edition lieutenants, too, one of which was on sale for a single day and the other that is not on sale yet. Gee, what bounty!

And chaos? Gee, they only had in the same period the Death Guard (which on its own outweighs all of Space Marine releases going back all the way to 2016), army that got only five different kits of their troop unit, two of them special edition ones, plus a gazillion characters (which is about to become two gazillion with next release), gigantic pile of Nurgle vomit, which was equally big in scope, even larger Black Legion release (and the CSM actually got good rules unlike Vanguard), plus slaaneshy SM model and another pile of chaos daemons. Poor chaos players, only 4 (and if we go back to primaris release, 5 because of Tzeenth/TS) releases that dwarfed all the other releases in the game since then, even the supposedly 'big' ones. Whatever they will do? That's not enough!

Yeah whenever I do see that guy I always initially confuse him for the freebie primaris GW uses to teach people how to paint. Its probably why many of the ones since have been helmet-less.
