What lines of military scale models make T-34s that would be approximately the right size to run as a Leman Russ? What do y'all think of doing that in a red army-themed guard list?

Im sure warhammer is 1:56 scale, so anything around that size but I think the ww2 scene is slightly smaller

IMO 1/56 would be too small, 40k is "heroic" scale so it's bulkier than comparable 28mm scale stuff.
I'd go with a 1/48 scale and even then maybe replace the hatches so they look appropriately sized for guardsmen to fit.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy. |

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I'm entirely supportive.

Bolt action is probably closest scale wise.

Warlord Games have quite a nice selection of 28mm scale T34s, some with wacky weird war 2 weapons

FWIW, my own personal thought is that you're probably better off trying to make a Leman Russ look like a T-34 (or KV-1 or even an IS-2) rather than trying to make a T-34 pass as a Leman Russ.
Are you going for a particular Red Army period? My idea - which remains unrealized - was to put a Deffrolla-type-of-thing on the front of a Leman Russ to ape the T-34 engineer tanks rolled out at Bagration.

here's an older dakka article about scale and 40K
https://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Scale_Model_Kits_for_40K
basicly 1-48 is closest in terms of absolute length/width/height, but looks small compared to infantry due to the size of hatches/doors etc
1-35 are generally longer than 40k equivellents, but look more in scale with infantry due to the 'heroic' proportions

i would just paint them green whit the red star and whit stripe on the turret and add external fuel drums on the rear + mandatory tree log and add the track armor from the tank accessory kit to cover up the belt and make it look like a normal tank. Keeps it 40k while looking like a ww2 red army t34.

I agree with Excommunicatus here, making a Leman Russ look like a T-34 would be better than the other way around. Without extensive conversion you'd be hard pressed to make it passable, especially with 40k's out of scale system.
