I am not the greatest painter, but when i get serious, I do ok. I am also the type who paints the rank and file first, then uses the characters as a reward. Well, I finished 15 genestealers and snatched up my Patriarch. After an hour or two of very careful work he looked awesome. All that was left was to grab my clear gloss to give his armor that wonderful chitinous look. So, grab, dab, and BAM! Awesome. Time for a break. I walked to the fridge, turned, and found my cat using my patriarch as a rubbing post...my long haired massively shedding cat...and the gloss wasn't dry.

Who feels my pain?

The problem was not the cat.

The problem was putting a freshly-varnished model somewhere the cat could get to it.

I've got two cats. Freshly sprayed stuff stays in the shed until it's dry. If the shed is not an option, the bathroom with the door closed and the vent fan on is the next best thing.

I have a cat that seems to have got used to hanging about in my garden with the folks who lived here before. if it doesn't learn not to come into it now I will have to purchase one of those spring BB pistols to warn it off.

Those things can seriously injure or kill a cat, an animal that doesn't understand the boundaries we have arbitrarily set on the world. I hope you're joking. Just get a water pistol, that will send the message without harming the poor thing.

@Vulcan; The worst part of this was these were not a sprayed batch of minis, but a single one I had brushed gloss varnish on only parts of (his armor). So I got lazy....and it is my fault in other ways. My cat often sleeps on the edge of my desk (he has a cat bed there) and "helps" me with my 40k work. So no one to blame but myself.

Yeah you can get lion poo stuff that scares them off so I'd probably put that down.

I had to get a separate room for when I paint my models because of the cats. Unfortunately, that separate room is in the basement. which tends to be really cold. So now I don't paint as much as I used too. lol

The biggest problem I have with pet hair is it getting into and sticking to my foam trays, 'cause I have to store them under the bed.

@Capt Jake; That is a really painful one...that ship looks great though, and nice pirates. I'm assuming it became a ship with some battle damage?

@Excommunicatus; I also suffer from the pet hair stuck to foam trays syndrome. I've used a roller with mediocre results (you know, the one with the peel off stickies for that very purpose)

Plus you can start some kind of "beast of bodmin moor" hoax by phoning the local paper and claiming to have seen a lion in your garden.

"It's true" said Queen Anne, 34, "Look I've got some of it's turds." <Story is accompanied by standard Daily Mail sad-face photo of QAR holding up a handful of lion crap.>

Perhaps not.

Ah this brings back beautiful memories when I had the crazy idea to start a DKOK army. Had the first las gun teams ready and then my dog decided to go Vraks on them.

And that was the end of my attempt on building expensive armies that take forever to paint.

It'll be a mixed blessing when your cat gets old and creaky and can't jump up on your desk. The good news is that he won't be messing with your stuff anymore, but the bad news is that he'll be old and creaky and need more of your care.

Well our cat Charles has mostly just tried to get at my paint water...his predecessor was fond of launching figures from the table top if not stopped early.

Cheers,

I am more surprised that the Cat went near a freshly glossed miniature or painting water.

Mine never did.
:( sadly he will never watching me paint again, or sitting on my Keyboard..

Kind of. The manufacturer offered to send me replacement parts (I was documenting the build for them as part of a review at their request) but i declined. Figured it wasn't their fault my dog decided it was part beaver that day. I finished the build minus that mast, scratch building non-mast parts which were chewed, but the ship never made it to the paining table before I had to move. Have since moved twice more and have yet to set up a hobby room/painting area in the new house.
