So recently I picked up a copy of Looncurse from my local hobby store and figured it would just sit in my back log for all eternity unless I did something about it. So, this is my attempt at getting it finished. I'm going to update with some kind of progress every Saturday and hopefully I'll have the box done sooner rather then later. I'm planning on starting with the goblins 'cause they're what drew my interest to the set in the first place. Here's my test goblin.

I really like the deep blueish green for the skin, and while you can't really see it in the photos I'm very happy with the NMM on the trinkets and dagger. Anyway, what do you guys think? Any and all opinions and creative criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. The green is very mischievous isn't it. I like it more then the standard green that most orks and goblins get from GW. I think the blue-green skin makes it seem a little more fantasy.
Anyway, have some squigs (two squigs to be precise).

Once again, sorry for photo quality. I think I'm getting better with the camera and lighting but it's still a process.
I painted them in the standard red. I wanted them to contrast well with the goblins skin but still be a different shade of red to the goblins robes. Overall, it was a much faster process. No glazing, lots of drybrushing, a little edge highlighting and a ton of fun. I'm very happy with the end result.
As always, what do you guys think? Any and all opinions and creative criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Another vote to approve of the blue-green skin. It is very refreshing to see something like that, and it does look more "fantasy"-like. The red contrast definitely works well, as would orange and/or yellow if you wanted to variate the squigs at all. Just red works too, though. Nothing wrong with that. Your bases compliment the paint scheme too. Very goblin-suited and doesn't get in the way of the focal colors. Great highlighting too. I hope you don't do all your goblins to that level, or you'll be at them forever!
Your lighting in the images looks a little warm. Or, it's a setting on your camera/phone. If you use daylight LED bulbs the lighting might improve. If you can, get three sources of lighting: one above, and one coming from both the left and right. Place the left and right sources aiming slightly from the front towards the image subject. Might need to turn down the brightness on the camera when doing it that way, but it will pick out all the detail.
Goblins and squigs take simple paint methods very well. Your work is churning out great things. I look forward to what you have next Saturday!

Hey CaptainWaffle, thanks for the kind words. I might try some yellow patterns on a squig or two, but otherwise I think it's going to stay with the classic colors. Also, I'm planning on doing each goblin to the same level, I figure that since they're mostly going to be in red cloaks that the skin shouldn't take to long. That said even if they take a while it's a fun skin tone to paint, I'm really enjoying all the glazing. Also, thanks for the lighting tips, I've put them to work on my latest photos.
So another week, another upload and another set of squigs.

So two more squigs done. Or maybe three? I kind of wonder, does the sentient mushroom count as a squig? I do have another one almost finished but I still need to add a few more finishing touches.
Okay, lesson time. Overall I think the miniatures turned out decent, nothing amazing but good enough for a batch job. Unfortunately, I screwed up with the varnish and applied it to thick. It left them with a slight white color in the recesses. Easily fixed with a wash of agrax but it was an extra step that I could have avoided and it's still slightly noticeable. Now they shall forever be relegated to the rear of the unit. Lesson learnt, thin layers and water down the varnish.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Any and all opinions and creative criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I really love the skin on the goblin. What paints did you use to achieve that? I think the squigs look grand, very appropriately squiggy, but I am excited to see more goblins, I think that skin tone will contrast beautifully with the orange squigs.

Thanks Da Boss. I start by basecoating GW Stegadon Scale Green, then a complete layer of Scale75 Arphen Jade. Wash with Coelia Greenshade. At this point I block in my highlights, first with Arphen Jade again, then a 1:1 mix of Arphen Jade and Scale75 Surfer Orc Flesh painted to the highest points. Then I glaze up to the highest points with Surfer Orc Flesh. I finish up with an extreme highlight of Surfer Orc Flesh and white in a 3:1 ratio.
I really want to paint more goblins to. I feel like I've caught on to a really nice color scheme. Unfortunately I really want to finish Looncurse before I buy anything else, but I have some plans on expanding it once everything's done. I'm currently painting the squig eating a goblin so that sort of scratches that itch haha.

Hey guys, sorry for the late upload but here's this weeks completed mini and you guessed it, it's a squig. On the bright side, I figured out how to use the spoilers feature so now it wont be to image heavy.
This goblin took a lot of time and effort that could have been easily avoided by painting it in sub assemblies. Oh well, live and learn.
I'm going to try and batch paint the rest of the squigs so we can move on to something else soon. Hopefully next weeks update will be more then a WIP.
So, what do you guys think? As always opinions and criticism is welcome.

Looks great to me. I wasn't aware that kit had sub-assembly options, then again, I don't really paint gobbos.
Your images are looking a little dark. Perhaps it's a brightness setting/auto adjust feature on your image capture device that's throwing it off. Otherwise, the images themselves are a great improvement over what you started with.

You haven't built the hoppers/bounders yet, right? I can't stress subassembly for those guys enough. started painting mine the other day and there are seceral faces where the teeth are just closed enough I can't get my brush in there to paint, but you can still see the white undercoat peaking through.

Hey guys, time for an update. So, first of all, I'm going to change my uploads from every Saturday to when I've finished something. I'm still going to try for an upload a week but things are getting a tad busy on the home front.

I didn't think they did either, but thinking on it I could probably have painted the inside of the mouth's before gluing on the faces. Of course if I did that I would need to do some patching up around the glue and whatnot so maybe not. As for the images, I'm playing with the light settings on my camera but I'm not sure. This upload doesn't have the Dakka auto adjust applied, but I think it would look better with it.

I haven't started them yet, thanks for the advice I'll keep it in mind when I start them up. I still have one squig herder to paint but I'm chomping at the bit to start on my hoppers.
And now for the update. Five more squigs! That means I'm only one mini off my first full squad of 2019!
So what do we think? Opinions and criticism is welcome.

Looking great. I think the image looks better than the auto-adjusted images. I find those just turn up or down the contrast and obscure details too much. The trouble you're having now is a sort of light haziness. This could be due to your lighting needing to be diffused through some filter (e.g., put a bit of thin parchment in front of the light sources) or it's just something with the camera.
My phone's camera is garbage and always gives images like that. When I use my wife's fancy phone camera I have no problems.

Hey guys I'm back! This time with the final model of my squig herd! And here it is.
And since that's the last model of the unit, here's a group photo to commemorate the event!

Thanks for the tip CaptainWaffle, I've tried to use parchment paper to help filter the light for these photos but I've got to say I cant really see a difference. That said, I am happy with the improvement of my photography skills, soon enough I'm going to have to get a new phone (hopefully with a better camera) so that might help a bit but otherwise I think I'm out of options for the time being.
Well, that's it for the time being. My next update will be my first squig hopper. As always, criticism is welcome and until my next update I hope you all have a great time.

Hey guys I'm back! Thanks for the kind words sockwithaticket, Fifty and IGtR=. I'm oddly proud of the paint scheme and genuinely surprised that I've stuck with it so long.
So, it's been a while since I uploaded, and I wish I had more to show for it but unfortunately life got in the way. Anyway here's what we have!
So I've added some regular grots to my painting list, just because I thought it would be an easy and fast addition to my uploads. So what do you guys think?

Hey everybody, finally have an update ready and it's a big one!
Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig:
And some Squig Hoppers:
I love the nmm on the loonboss' sickle! I have no idea how it turned out so well but I'm very happy it did. Also, the mohawk was generously donated by a space wolf.
Next update should be Boingrot Bounders (which hopefully wont take me too long)

Thanks Marxist artist, I'm very happy with how they've turned out. The skin recipe is:
Base Incubi Darkness (GW)
Full cover of Arphen Jade (Scale 75)
Heavy drybrush a 1:1 mix of Arphen Jade and Surfer Orc Flesh (Scale 75)
Drybrush Surfer Orc Flesh
Edge highlight with a 1:1 mix of Surfer Orc Flesh and white (any white will work)
When working on a character I glaze instead of drybrushing but it's more effort for an only slightly better effect.
