Morally-Flexible Malleus Hearing Whispers

So, the new codex's are out, and that's all great, but honestly. For us historians, where are the fluff updates? We've been chewing on this Prospero you call a lore cycle now for about a year. You left us last when they DESTROYED Cadia. Is it too much to get a check in on the Big E, let us know what's happening with Bobby G and his Hot Elven GF, and the rest of this freak show?
Might I also mention that approximately 4-5 editions ago we were told that the Main Hive fleet of Tyranids was gathering to wipe out the milkyway galaxy, and all we were seeing was their "scouting parties". Can a battle brother get an update on the snarly death that is creeping out there waiting to wipe out all life?
Finally, in last editions news: Vulkan is dead, long live his hammer. But there are rumors that come from a production line in merry ol' england town, that there is a new Spru with his name on it. We would dearly love to know if he is somehow not a pile of warp dust being snorted into a greater nurglings 5th nostril.
PLEASE UPDATE THE LORE, BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T, THERE IS A NASTY CASE OF PRIMARIS GOING AROUND, AND WHEN YOU BREAK THE LORE TO SELL NEW UNITS, YOU HURT MAH SOUL.
Seriously, where are the latest lore drops to match the suddenly 500 year jump in technology? Not even Mars has this type of Tech, and they have ALL the tech.

Well, where are the primarchs is a bit out of the realm of possibility, so....
1. GK feel like engaging the giant Abaddon shaped cloud marching towards Terra? The one with all the daemons?
2. Where is Creed?
3. Why is Sony crushing my Spiderman hopes and dreams?
4. What's the status of Big E? Any news at this point would be something. All we have is Bobby went to go see him, and came back out.
5. Tyranid Main Hive Fleet marshaling outside of the Milkyway Galaxy since they were introduced. Any updates? Deathwatch feel like engaging?
4. You didn't notice this wasn't 6.
7. When can we expect the GK to open their secret box that has all the same designs and markings as the golden throne?
8. When are we going to get an update on the fact that Black Templar Crusade?
So far, 8th Edition has apparently spanned over 1-2k years? 7th was the 40th milenium, and 8th is the last 41st?

I'm not sure how this would make me feel. On the one hand, having my favorite primarch leading my legion would be glorious. On the other, I'm not sure the model would look better than the 30k one and he'd probably be broken as all hell(knowing GW & their track record on Primarchs). I'd imagine he would

There are rumors they are getting their own seperate book, cause they have so many unique units, Crusader squads, Castellans, Sword Brothers, Marshals, Emperors Champions etc.
Though I am of the opinion every chapter should have an Emperor's Champion and a unit honor guard.

I mean they were the poster boys of 3rd edition and they are really trying to capture the feeling of 3rd edition. It would be dumb them not to.
Plus they sell more supplements. As people will continue to buy each supplement to have a 'collection' as well as having more powerful rules for each chapter.
helk I am tempted to get an iron hands book once that comes out.

Once past Cadia, the Black Crusade fleet separated into various agendas. Abaddon struck at Vigilus in an attempt to gain control of the passageway between Imperium Sanctus and Imperium Nihilus. It almost worked. Terra was already attacked by a huge Khornate invasion and it took months to get things under control.
2. Where is Creed?
In stasis in Trazyn's museum, where he will remain.
3. Why is Sony crushing my Spiderman hopes and dreams?
Because Disney offered them an atrociously bad deal financially.
4. What's the status of Big E? Any news at this point would be something. All we have is Bobby went to go see him, and came back out.
We have Guilliman's meeting detailed in Dark Imperium. The Emperor is still alive and was "happy" to see Guilliman, but Guilliman knew it was not in any sort of fatherly way.
5. Tyranid Main Hive Fleet marshaling outside of the Milkyway Galaxy since they were introduced. Any updates? Deathwatch feel like engaging?
The opening of the Great Rift ended up being one of the best tools against the Tyranids. It ripped through hivefleets, burning up chunks of some and flinging others across the galaxy, where they could be picked off easier in smaller swarms. It set the Tyranids back quite a bit and gave rise to the independent Genestealer Cult, cults who will basically never see their respective hivefleet again and so had to conquer and expand on their own.

. Way off. All of 40k except the last two years has been set in the 41st millennium. 8th edition pushed the setting 114 years later, after Guilliman initiated the Indomitus Crusade, which managed to stabilize Imperium Sanctus to pre-13th Black Crusade level craziness and provide the Primaris technology to every astartes chapter, as well as found about 50 more. At the current time, the Indomitus Crusade has just come to an end.

So:
1. So the whole speculation about the Big E just being a husk is wrong? He is still physically "alive"? It can speak?
2. Do the codex's have fluff/lore updates, or do we depend on the books for those?

we dunno the full details (for allw e know he has a text to speach device) but most likely he communicates psyicly and his corpse is sort of an anchor to reality
2. Do the codex's have fluff/lore updates, or do we depend on the books for those?
they do indeed, although the quality of those updates depends on the codex. codex space marines ahs a fair bit of stuff, whereas I found codex grey knights to be a complete dissappointment. (I'm talking luff wise not rules wise just so we're clear)

I found DW, Custodes, and IG to be disappointing for Fluff. It basically rehashed the news of 7th, and then went onto the Historicity of each faction. I know what Deathwatch is, I don't need to know where their home bases are, I want to know if there are any big things that concern them.
Custodes was, here they are, here is what they do, and Bobby G let them off the chain and now they are fighting off Terra. For $60 I am disappoint.

Unfortunately, most of the best fluff on the Custodes - how they get let off the chain, what they think about Gulliman, the Grey Knights, the Sisterhood, and the state of the Imperium, as well as the Khornate daemonic incursion on Terra and Abbadon's (very sensible) stage II masterplan that nearly eliminated the throneworld
i.e. the stuff you'd want to read if you're considering becoming a custodes player...
Is not in the codex beyond a few paragraphs because it's all in great detail in the novel Watchers of the Throne. It's a good book, and I strongly, strongly recommend getting a copy to read.

Also, reading over the book's description, led me to wonder something:

Why are they off the chain? I've not really seen why they had a change from being stuck on Terra by choice to going out and about beyond GW wanted to sell Custodes to 40k players and I don't want to buy a book just for that. More accurately:
1) they're not blank 'enough'. There are grades of pariah*, just like there are grades of psyker. They're good enough to stop normal psykers and to stand a chance against daemons despite being 'only' human, but don't really inconvenience the emperor that much - even if they can see 'him' and not the golden giant everyone thinks he looks like.
2) They're not guarding the throne. The sisterhoods fortress is/was on luna, and for most of the Imperium's history they've been scattered across the Imperium (because no-one likes them and everyone's suspicious of them because that's a side-effect of the pariah effect). Note that of all the assassin temples, fane culexus is kept off-world for the same reasons.
* Within imperial service, culexus assassins are certainly more substantial blanks than silent sisters, and it's possible Ordo Sinister prefects are scarier than either given the engines they command.

It was. A demon Primarch was there so a bunch of tribals got liquefied. Fortunately the loss of significant amounts of Astartes and their recruiting pool is meaningless thanks to the wondrous better in every way Primaris.

more specificly populations can be pretty durable and can build up swiftly, partiuclarly under the right conditions. (the population of the earth has doubled in the last 50 years, for example) the space wolves likely needed to be careful with recruitment so as not to hurt the planetary population recovery (this BTW is proably the main reason why it took the UMs so long to recover from hive fleet behemoth) but things should retore back to normal in a generation or two, which is almost an eyeblink where 40k is concerned

I guess it depends on what the population was and how much was destroyed. If the planet had, say, 1 billion people, 90% were wiped out, 90% of what remained was unsuitable for recruitment due to chaos taint or other conditions, that still leaves a population of 10 million to recruit from. Maybe not as good a selection as what they once had, but then I imagine the conditions did wonders for culling weaker candidates.

If Ashes of Prospero is anything to go by the Wolves don't really need to bother the Fenrisian population too much for a while, the return of the thirteenth company has nearly doubled the Wolves' number from before the events of Warzone Fenris.
The Wolfspear are also a potentially successful successor chaptor since they potentially have geneseeds from before Russ's discovery that have no ties to Fenris.

It is difficult to piece together what is happening now because GW has stopped including any dates with their events and timelines. While I'm sure they probably handwave this as due to the timey wimey effects of the warp and the Rift, I think it's more so they don't have to bother with quality control and keeping continuity straight. IMO it's just GW's excuse for sloppiness. Before this edition, players seemed to be doing a better job of continuity checking and keeping track of the chronology than GW.

I honestly just assumed it was so they could keep warhammer 40k 40k no matter what they did in the timeline.

The timeline had already moved well into M42 long before GW dropped the pretense of trying to maintain a consistent timeline, so that would make little sense.
