Stormcast units armed with super handguns. Stormcast heroes armed with magical pistols. A Stormcast Cannon?

What are the odds? Would you like to see that, maybe as part of yet another new chamber? Or would that be a terribly stupid idea?

My own answer is...I have no idea.

I'd say no to guns. The Stormcasts are already powered by divinity and don't need it. Save them for factions much more squishy like dwarves and the like.

Well its not unreasonable.

Guns are a present tech in the realms and Free Peoples are one of the major factions that makes use of gunpoweder. Stormcast wouldn't likely even get any racial issues or trade disputes with gaining access to gun weaponry from their allies.

The main issue though is that Stormcast are quite electrically charged. Many abilities, spells and boons they have make use of electrical energies. Even their mages will call down powerful strikes from the skies not to mention when they die (provided it all goes to plan) they get shot back up to the heavens.

So giving them a black powder powered weapon would be asking for trouble. There'd be an almost skaven level of risk of accidental ignition.

A stormcast unit making use of them would have to likely operate far from the regular army to avoid issues; possibly even operate with a different set of armours and approach to warfare. At which point the guns would have to offer a significant advantage over their current storm-powered weapons. And that's the real issue; right now the Stormcast have weapons of equal and greater power than gunpowder based ones; weapons that don't carry the same risks.

Even if they could remove almost all risk, as soon as one of them falls the lightning strike (which does not seem to affect other stormcast around a fallen one) would instantly cause ignition and explosion.

The only role I could see it working for is a sniper. Far from the regular army; isolated; operating with likely very different approaches to warfare etc...

I think the crossbow looking weapons they have now are magical lightning guns not bolt shooting crossbows.

Ah, yes, like Either/Or said, these weapons would most certainly be completely magical in nature. Made from sigmarite rather than iron and wood, and shooting blasts of azyrite energy rather than simple bullets via gunpowder. In effect, they’d be more like Kharadron Overlord weaponry.

There’s another obstacle that I can see though; some people already call them clones of space marines. Giving them actual guns like exasperate that.

Why would they look or function any different from boltstorm weapons and the ballista?

Stormcast seem firmly entrenched in the arrow & bolt element for ranged attacks, bar a few thrown weapons. I think straight guns is outside their theme and accordingly won't be done. Besides they already have boltstormers, they don't need storm bolters!

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Who needs a puny gun when you have a Thunderbolt Crossbow?...

Considering that they have crossbows and bows that fire lightning bolts and respawn ammo in the quivers...it'd be a distinct step back in firepower.

Given the art of the Venators, I see their arrows as plasma arrows too, probably far better than black powder.

Already exists. Just don't add (or cut off) the arms of the crossbows and they look remarkably like bolters. Right down to pistol grips.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Just no. They already look like fantasy space marines.

Stormcast with guns exist already. In fact they recently got a new battletome and a host of supplements. I don't know how you missed releases like iron hands.
