So I thought I'd finished my commissar but I've noticed parts I've missed, so this is still a WIP photo. Will finish him up tonight most likely and get finished photos tomorrow.

Heres my attempt at a spacewolf themed psyker.

Wielding the artifact Black Death, and evocing the "Fury of the wolf spirits" unleasing all the frozen hell that Fenris has to offer.

A tentative entry from me. I may have something better by the end of the month, but in case that doesn't arrive in time, I'll match (in theme, if not in quality! ) Feltmonkey's villainous Boba Fett with the archetypal Hero-In-The-End, Han Solo.

Pretty pleased with how he's come out, certainly a change of pace after a month of painting nothing but DC stuff to go back to Heroic Scale minis (his head is the size of the torso of the Robin I just painted! ) but I'm happy enough with it, especially the shirt and the face (it's not the best likeness, but it'll certainly do). Still not sure why they decided to sculpt him in the Endor trench coat that he wears for half of one film rather than his iconic jacket that he dons far more often.

I'll get the OP updated with everyone's entries tomorrow.

Uh, fun. I'll probably not make it (3 days) but let us give it a go.

Great stuff so far guys! Love those legionaries.

My entry will be a Grand master in terminator armour

A late entry from me! I've already started a bit, and have a few days off here before the end of the month, so hopefully I'll get it done.

I've just got the base to do on Boba after spending most of my day off painting fiddly weathering onto tiny armour panels. I'm at that phase where you genuinely can't tell if it's any good or not. I've been staring at it too long. I keep showing my wife and asking "does this look like battered old metal?" while she's in the middle of something more important.

Some really lovely stuff on this page, by the way. QAR, I think your commissar is going to be one of my favorites this month. The model really suits your style, and the desaturated colours you use.

Para - Did you find Han's eyes to be an absolute nightmare? They're just holes in that sculpt, aren't they? I think your approach of just painting them black is better than my attempt to paint eyes into the void.

Viterbi - Very nice! I love the banner. I know you're not happy with the lettering, but it's cool anyway. Regarding the lettering, I've been learning how to do gothic script over the last few months, reading and watching quite a few guides, so I hope you don't mind me passing on what I've learnt. It is possible to do passable gothic script without needing superhuman skills. You can find apps and websites that will convert what you want into a variety of gothic typefaces, so first use one of those to make yourself a reference to copy. Then you need to plan it out by starting - quite counter-intuitively - in the middle. use really thinned paint and a thin brush with a very good point. I personally think pens are a bit of a trap as although they are arguably easier to control, they only give you one shot at it. Using the thinned paint and starting in the middle, sketch out the script. Then you go over and over it with the thinned paint, letting it dry inbetween and building it up in layers. The thinned paint helps it look neater in the final version, as you will hit the right areas more than the wrong ones, and the mistakes will be a single bit of thinned paint and be harder to spot. That's the theory, at least.

I better go and paint that base.

Yeah, the eyes are weird... To be honest, I didn't even try and paint them, I more focused on darkening the socket/under the brow to hide the fact there's nothing there and focused on getting the rest of the face to look right so they didn't really stand out...

My progress after today's work, just a few tweaks with GS away from paint. Damn I hope I'll have time to get some color on him before the 30th. If not it was still a fun project, even tho some areas got a bit rushed. If I don't find time before the 30th., you can follow the process here https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/782865.page

"Burn them all, The God-Emperor will know His own"

Grand Master Stibor Lazaerek was the reigning Chapter Master of the Fire Hawks when he, along with the entire Chapter, were lost to the warp in 963.M41. More warrior than general, and sadly both as petty and cruel as he was arrogant, Stibor had at that point led his Knight-Astartes through more than 500 years of conflict. Overseeing both triumph and failure during those long years, his last known actions led to what was undoubtably the once great chapter's darkest hours.

Driven by his resentment and rivalry with Lufgt Huron of the Astral Claws, the bitter old man had a solid hand in escalating the Badab Schism into full out civil war, plunging his forces into the conflict. Unfortunately, his bombastic strategies and the frontal fighting traditions of the Fire Hawks were no match for the tactical ingenuity of the Mantis Warriors, nor the cold hearted logic of the Tyrant of Badab. Driven back, suffering horrendous casualties and worse still, loosing the overall command of the loyalist forces, Lazaerek was humiliated and exposed, choosing to let his anger loose on undeserving civilian populations, bombing planets from orbit and committing uncalled for atrocities.

On the battlefield however, Stibor still made a magnificent figure. Aged by untold wounds and conflict through the centuries, the old knight couldn't match his former provers, but even then he was a formidable opponent. Clad in the chapters most precious piece of equipment; an ancient suit of tactical dreadnought armour, build around the fabled Mk1, and incorporating a prototype assault cannon, the suit was said to have been blessed by Sebastian Thor himself after the victory over Vandire in the Age of Apostasy. In addition to the incoporated twin powerfist of the suit, the Grand Master also wielded his personal power glaive. A massive weapon, boldly captured in his youth during a raid on an unknown renegade chapter.

Thanks feltmonkey! I'll probably try again with the banner in the course of the next year and will try out your advice.

And good luck with Boba!

Thanks! That's the feel I wanted for this guy.

And seconded on the freehand technique. That's exactly how I do my gothic freehand. Can't remember the exact site but it's a font conversion site. Just type blackletter font generator in Google.

So, while he's technically 'finished', I'm really disappointed with how the tiefling came out, and the cyborg and avatar are even worse, so I'd kinda like to change my entry? Doing up an Harbringer of Horus, Aspect of the Avenger from WarGods.

Pretty happy with how he came out. Slight build issue on one wrist, but from a distance it’s not that bad. Experiment with a printed shoulder pad. Clean up was a bear, and it’s a little rough on some points. But again, arm’s length it’s fine. The layered shoulder is one of the hallmarks of the champions, and I wanted him to have one. Getting the torso halves to line up took a bit of knife work, and then finding a pair of legs that fit between the cape and petuges had a lot of trials.

But he’s ready for battle now, to uphold the honour of the chapter and blender his way through any foes that challenge the might of the Ultramarines.

I'm almost certainly not going to finish. I;m not getting the effect I want on a couple of things and I have very little time left today in which painting's an option. Shame, I may finish over the next couple of days.
