Perils of the Warp happens when you roll a double 1 or double 6 on your Psychic Test. But Wyrdvane psykers only roll one die to make Psychic Tests, so they can never roll a double. Are there any circumstances in which they might need to use their special rule which specifies how Perils of the Warp affects them?

While unable to perils via a normal psychic test (unless you pull off some Cohen the Barbarian shenanigans), they can still suffer perils via other abilities such as via the Codex: Chaos Daemons stratagem "Daemonic Possession" or the Codex: Heretic Astartes Chaos Space Marines 2: Electric Boogaloo artefact "Brass Collar of Khorne".

I believe that there is also a Chaos Knight relic that causes automatic perils to anything attempting to manifest nearby.

In general though, units that only roll one die for psychic tests will not be able to suffer perils. This helps to counteract the fact that they are barely capable of casting in the first place.
