Hi everyone.

Basically, my brother and his son both have sizeable 40k forces and on the rare occasion I get to see them play I normally bring a few units to ally with one of them. My nephew collects Ultramarines (obviously!) and has a load of Dreadnaughts, the new piloted ones and hovering tanks, and I want to blow them up in style!

I don't get to play much and would only ever be with my family so I'm not looking to collect a new army but willing to buy a couple of units. I was thinking some Ork tank busters would be fun to take on Imperial armour and could add a few other units to make a tank busting mercenary force.

Can you suggest any other fun ways to take out vehicles?

Thanks for reading.

I’m not sure how the weapon’s current rules work, but I used to love teleporting snotlings with the ork shook attack gun to kill things.

For me the most fun way to kill tanks is to charge them with old one eye. The reliability is quite high.

Same feeling using orks. Charging a tank with a warboss that swings with the Killa Klaw is awesome and using the proper buffs it could even 1-shot a Knight.

Always fun to finish off a tank with something unlikely. For example, destroyed a Sicaran on it's last wound with a harlequin Shadowseer's hallucinogen launcher. I like to think that the fumes got in through the cracks in the armour from fusion blasts, and the tank commander just got a little crazy and pulled out the pins on a few grenades inside the tank....

Explosions are also fun too...

In a BR on Youtube, my Ravenwing Dark Talon is killed off by Old One Eye, I exploded and took out 2 carnifexes that were on reduced wounds and his floaty warlord (can't remember the name of it...Zoanthrope perhaps). It was a heroic detonation of the Rift cannon generator in the plane by the pilot of course

I quite like locking down a tank in combat with some chaff, having it die in their turn then teleporting the yncarne in for smite + gaze of fate + smashy smashy. Then peacing out back into my own backline, to safety.

If you are orks: Suped up shok attak gun/shok attak gunz They are mega swingy and either power up and deal BIIIG damage or not.

That gun is gross. Even without buffs it has 108 potential damage. You would have to roll nearly 40 6's in a row though.

Stripping that last wound off of a land raider/knight using only Ripper swarms!

And of course, the old adage from 5th ed - If anything is within 12" of Abaddon at the first of his turn, it's already dead.

I know its ridiculous when it powers up... But then ive seen it keep rolling low and have like 2-4 -5ap STr3 shots

For me, the favourite/most satisfying/cinematic way to plink off a final wound is the humble shuriken pistol from a warlock/seer. I imagine something along the lines of the end scene form saving private ryan.

Alternatively a well placed ranger sniper shot MW on a 6. You know he just aimed at the exposed power core/vent system and kaboom.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Genestealer Cults IMO have all the best ways to waste tanks.

a lot of their units have Demolition Charges, which in GSC are either modeled as antitank mines or as big Wile-E-Coyote bundles of cartoon dynamite. They get these weapons on their Acolyte Hybrid troops, as well as their motorcycle gangs - and the motorcycles can all have one.

They also have the Goliath Rockgrinder vehicle, which is a snowplow with buzzsaw blades on it. Have you watched Total Recall? It's that thing.

They also have Hybrid Aberrants, A unit of burly muscly hulk monsters who have power picks, gigantic power hammers which destroy tanks like nobody's business, and their sergeant has the amazing Combat Stop Sign.

Their basic trooper dudes can also be equipped with grenade launchers and mining lasers, which are shorter ranged lascannons carried by a single dude.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

It also has a 50% chance to do zero damage

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

100% no idea how (or even if) this works in the current edition, but:

In additions past I always enjoyed blowing tanks up using Tau Pathfinder units. Zoom up in the devilfish, disembark, charge vehicle with EMP charges (or whatever they were called at the time).
Nobody ever thought of Tau as being dangerous up-close. My Pathfinder's shoulder pads have a lot of kill stripes.

Still Lascannons for killin tanks, imo. The more the merrier. Now ignoring the move penalties using UM, and re-rolling more often for cheaper.

For Orks -
3x Mek Guns - with Smasha Guns are 93 point. take a bunch of them and watch things explode.

Big Mek with Shokk Attack Gun (and from the suppliment Vigilus Defiant take the Da Souped-up Shokka relic from the Dread Waaaagh! specialist detachment) can do hilarious amounts of damage - also if you place a bunch of grots near him you can kill them instead of taking wounds on the big mek as well...

Apart from that Lootas are not too bad either.

in a local escalation league tournament final somone was running this list as an example...
