Frozen 2 is out now, and it’s making a bit of money. The story is pretty good. The songs aren’t too bad. There were some laugh out loud moments and a couple of toddler-traumatizing scenes. It was a better movie than the latest Addams Family cartoon.
The original is one of the better Disney Princess movies, but if you're expecting something beyond that you're going to be disappointed. It's very good; one of my favorites even, but by now you've probably absorbed enough of it via cultural osmosis to be truly wowed by it.
I quite enjoyed it, it held the attention of my 6 and 3 year old as well as the attention of two parents. Story was pretty good, Olaf was a blast (which is good because he always has the potential of being an annoying distraction), and the themes were nice. Darker than the first movie, but redeeming storylines for everyone.
Kristoff was great though, and he may be the most well developed male character Disney has ever created and he and Anna have the healthiest and most realistic relationship of any Disney couple.
The movie did have me busy counting the stories and ideas Disney borrowed from, and the “out of context spoiler” memes are hilarious.
One of my highlights in the movie:

My son was pretty confused by that whole scene, but my wife and I couldn’t stop laughing. And it was a generously long scene. Between that and some of Olaf’s lines, the film has a lot for adults to enjoy.

It’s okay if you haven’t seen the first movie. You do get a hilarious, although accurate, 60 second summary from Olaf halfway through the movie.

It’s a noteworthy accomplishment that Olaf’s song and mantra are positive and cheerful for kids but bitterly dark for adults. Someone needs to make a metal cover for the teenagers.
So I finally saw it (children's animations come to Peripheral regions a month late so they have time for dubbings - I went to see the original however. Dubbed songs tend to suck).
First half of the movie I was not that impressed, it felt they were rushing the story somewhat and some of the character moments felt forced, particularly Kristoff-Anna -relationship. Journey to Enchanted Forest was done almost as soon as it began which was a bummer as it was lost opportunity for character interaction, not to mention showing off scenery - some of which we saw in the teaser but wasn't in the movie. Second half however is very epic and intense and fully cashes the promise of the trailers.
So the movie left me both satisfied and frustrated. It felt like someone had taken really epic LotR-type fantasy adventure and then cut 30 minutes off from it to maintain rating and runtime. The plot was somewhat too ambitious for the duration, with mysteries of past & present, epic journey, FOUR parallel character development stories and 8-9 songs eating up runtime. Perhaps they some day release sort of 'directors cut' with new and/or longer scenes, I would perform heinous acts of villainy to see it.
Songs were mostly good I suppose, though maybe not F1 level of catchiness - but what is? Kristoff's role was disappointingly weak, though he finally gets to sing proper - and it's a doozy. The movie does look very very good. It really feels like producer wrote a blank check and said "here, make Elsa look as gorgeous as possible. Oh, Aladdin folks? Here's $20 for the Genie".
It is noteworthy that some things remained unexplained, stuff which might not seem like a big deal in the context of the single movie, but enough to justify another sequel if they feel like it.
Some criticism/observations...
Spoiler:
-uninitiated viewer would be excused to think it's Anna and Olaf who are getting married. Main story starts with them on romantic picnic and they get far more lines professing their love of each other than Anna and Kristoff. Anna basically seems to treat Kristoff as a friend w/ benefits.
-Given how much expanded role they gave to Queen Aduna, at least they could have designed her another dress. She only ever wears the same dress for 20 years? Oh well, if you're used wearing reindeer skins, maybe you're not much of a fashion person?
-Lt. Mathias and remnants of the Guard spent 34 years in the forest, still wearing their uniforms (!), apparently still maintaining hostile relations with Northuldra, instead of 'going native' for survival and companionship?
-Anna was way too quick to dump Kristoff to continue the journey, not even leaving him a word. Also, she accepted the crown and her sister leaving the kingdom with almost no protest? Maybe she would have been good match for Hans after all...
-no new yoik, Northuldra were only singing old 'Vuelie'. Bah. I don't remember any of the score, really. F1 had excellent score (in addition to musical pieces).
-So...Elsa's role as a 'Fifth Spirit' is basically to beat them into submission? By the way, if the dam so angered the spirits, why didn't they just destroy it, which they easily did at the end?
-Elsa never got to the bottom of the Ahtohallan. And they never deciphered the scroll. Or find out what really happened to old King.

I don't know if it's 'amazing' but it does have certain kind of magic, sort of synergy of elements which makes it more powerful than merely summing up its parts. It has created its own religion-like following which transcends popular culture, like Star Wars.
Funny part is that none of it was planned, Disney merely wanted to repeat its modest hit 'Tangled', writing process bordered on panic, after first trailer was released they rewrote the script once more in desperate attempt to 'make it not suck'.
