It makes sense that the Necrons didn't bother to defend their Dolman Gate - the destruction of which would destroy their entire moon-base full of millions (?) of Necrons - despite knowing that the Sisters had already breached the Obsidian Moon, because miracles!
The Deathmark didn't bother using his gun, and brought a sword instead because miracles!
The Sisters of Battle find a magical teleporter scroll... thing which takes them just where they need to go because miracles!

The new necron elites made a really good showing of themselves in "the world engine". I can highly recommend it.

BTW it turns out I literally just re-read the bit where she kills the assasin, it's not ever said to be a temple assasin. it's just some guy with a special sniping gun, yeah he blows up when killed but I doubt that's a unique thing to the vindicare assasins (the idea of assasins having a faill safe to kill themselves/remove evidance is an old one and it's a good idea for a HOST of reasons)

yes I'm aware, the thing is that assasin was sniping with a silenced weapon (sounded like an exotic needler of some sort) thus clearly did not fit neatly into any of the temples.

I remember reading that and was like, no way. No way someone tanks that hit. I don't care how big your rosary is.
I get that books are written so the heroes can be heroic, and appear mighty, but as someone else said, there aren't Space Marines, hell they aren't even Scouts. They are essentially well trained guardsmen with better armor and weapons.
As to the what type of assassin it was, you are correct, it never mentions it. But I was looking through art for the book and one of them had a Cally in the background, it used a dart pistol and a power sword, and I thought the explosion was a dead giveaway. RAI v RAW?
As to me wanting Pinup repentias, I never even implied that. I think you could have them be completely armored like now, and still give them a hood and a robe. I wasn't arguing for sexy, I was arguing to give them back the Red cloth. Now they are just boring.
They have canonical miracles that go so far as reviving the dead and you can't take surviving a hit from a magic science arrow?
So in your book it can never get too silly because.. miracels?
No I'm saying surviving the arrow isn't silly because miracles. I thought that was obvious.

If the book presents it as a miracle in a meaningful way, I can get behind that. On the other hand, if something just seems so unlikely, that a random miracle is the only explanation, its just bad writing - in turn, making anything possible. That was the point I was trying to make.

DoW: Ascension is probably the best book, just behind Helsreach. If you've not read it, I recommend it highly.
Have you read his Dawn of War books? Those are what got me to buy the DoW game and lead to me having an interest in 40K.

One of my favorite scenes, and I can't recall which book it was in. It might have been ascension, was when a group of imperial children were able to disable an eldar tank. They manged to take it down by ambushing it and breaking it with stones and stuff. They killed the pilot too, proving their loyalty as the emperors future finest!

Then the backflipping Terminators (with multilasers) cheered the kids as they flipped by on their way to the next engagement. Which of course was handily won, it's so easy to shoot Eldar. All you have to do as a Space Marine is walk into an open area, tank a few hundred shots while you figure out their positions and then just headshot them all one by one!

Normally, I wouldn't accept "IT'S A MIRACLE" as an explanation for why something happened in a book.
But!
In the case of the Sororitas, it's literally a miracle. In fact, even on the Table Top, they have a mechanic to replicate how often miracles happen for them. In fact, a Canoness on the table top can easily survive a Tachyon Arrow to the chest. Like that's not even really a good move to kill her with - it's a waste of your arrow, is how ineffective it is. So why is it suddenly unimmersive for her to survive ... in the fluff?
Methinks someone doesn't understand how the Sororitas work. They literally work by being so faithful it causes miracles routinely. That's the fluff in the new book, after all.
