Beer, yes. It's the PRETZELS I can't relate to.

I don't drink, because reasons, and pretzels aren't vegan so I don't do beer and pretzels myself, but I don't care if someone else drinks/smokes/whatever, if I know that person and trust them.

I'm not comfortable putting ca. $800 worth of minis that I've spent hours building and painting on a table when there's someone there I don't know who might get falling-down drunk/stoned and, well, fall down on the table.

Also, it's basically impossible for a FLGS to get a licence to serve alcohol here in the Democratic People's Republic of Ontario so it would necessarily have to be a garagehammer thing.

Don't get to play at local stores. Do drink and snack when playing at the house and allow others to do so as well. Will sometimes drink/snack at the local wargaming convention (Siege of Augusta) if I don't need to worry about driving.

Won't smoke (the illegal stuff is bad for my clearance, and the legal stuff has no attraction).

I don't drink while gaming anymore. When I game at home, my main opponent is my 10 year-old son, and it's unseemly to get beaten by a kid, so I keep my wits until after the game. Drinking and driving laws are draconian here, so if I go out, I have to walk or abstain. I usually choose the latter.

Well, looks like I'm gonna be the bad apple, but here goes. I don't play in FLGS any more. These days I play only at home with my friends, and our game of choice is far from being competetive (Frostgrave). We meet, we drink a lot, we laugh, we roll dice, and blast spells. At 3 am it's time to get a cab, and go back to kids and wives. So for us it is a "beer and pretzels" game.

Church halls aren't really a place to drink. So, gaming at the table is out.
At home, there's driving done by at least one us us to get there, so out there, too.

After-game, a cider (hard, if it matters) or two.

Gaming with booze though, not a problem.
If WHW has a bar just off the gaming area (and plastic cups if you go outside the bar area), that's about as much an endorsement as you can get.

Depends on a few factors. If gaming at home, sure I'll have a few beers/whiskey.

If gaming at a venue I have to drive to/from, no chance. Couldn't live with myself if anything happened and I had a beer.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

95% of my games are done with drinking/smoking/coffee/some sort of vice. I also always have a full gaming table/full terrain at my place and I live in a city where it's $20 in uber/lyft to and from the game store with no parking. Easier to host people at my place or go over someone's house.

I'd prefer coffee and a cigar before and after playing a 3 game GT/tournament day.

I have it on good experience that most churches like to give out a bit of wine to every member. Church halls are absolutely places where you can imbibe [a sip of] alcohol!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I do the overwhelmingly majority of gaming at home (two game tables currently, and I'm looking to buy a house with a room to house three) and whatever narrative campaign our group is doing is populated with beer & pretzel gamers. When we ran the Elixia campaign from GHB2019 last month we all demolished a couple 12-packs over the course of the campaign day (admittedly like a half dozen games over a twelve hour game day)

Trying to navigate the myriad of rules, codexes and such, my drink long grew warm and my pretzels stale. I always thought the term about 'beer & pretzels' (or substitute for anything else) meant it was a fun and easy game to play, always lighthearted - all of the GW games moved away from that decades ago...

My FLGS doesn't serve beer, so I normally don't drink and game. But having a beer and playing a game is one of life's great pleasures, IMO.

Top table at a tournament? Probably not a beer and pretzels game. Playing in my basement with close friends/family? Absolutely a beer and pretzels game!

Sadly the place I play at does not do beer as its a club run out of a community centre.

When I get my own gaming space and I will have people over for games you can bet yo mojitos Ima be having some beers. Maybe not pretzels. I need to diet...

One gaming club I play at, I drink beer there because I can crash out in the spare room on the futon and sleep it off. I'm 100% against drinking and driving. (I lost a Marine brother to a drunk driver, a few days after he came back from a deployment, dude was there for me through a lot of the worst we dealt with and it shook me).

Otherwise, when I do drink, it's 3 beers at most. I've found beers are better for Blackstone Fortress and Silver Tower, making the game even more hilarious.
