Whats your favorite classic 40k model from the 80's or 90's?

I'm personally a big fan of the old eldar wraith-assassins/executioners.

Rogue Trader deodarant can tank.

Encapsulated a time when the game was about the hobby and not the bottom line.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

The original Asmodai.

Not sure why, but he's been my favourite mini since 1996.

I'd say it's nearly impossible to pick a favourite...the mid-late 90's were the Jes Goodwin golden era. The sculpting quality had gone up tremendously over the Rogue Trader era, but hadn't reached the "mayhem" of current sculpts. Plastic sculpts were still too expensive/new to be particularly impressive, but metals were absolutely shining.

GW hit a dip in the early 2000's when a large number of new sculptors came onboard and you had some pretty dire sculpts (filtering in among the good ones). Then within the past ten years you had the real plastic renaissance where plastic sculpting really took off.

This is the first time you really had a bunch of Space Marine characters that were shining; Calgar, Corbulo, Dante, Azriel, etc.

The old cypher model is still a stunner. For a long, long time it was the only named character model I owned.

Old Exorcist. I don't actually know when it came out.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I will second the wraith assassin.

I actualy got one on ebay just for a painting project.

I wish they would re-introduce the concept of assain wraiths
No idea what the fluff/lore is behind them as it was way before my time.

I usually prefer newer sculpts to older sculpts, but I do really like the old Necron Wraiths. I think they're the only unit that's moved from metal to plastic where I liked the old metal model better.

I'm partial to the 1st Ed Terminator Captain. If I had to pick a fave it might be that.

The 2nd Ed Marneus Calgar is a really detailed, yet clean sculpt. Love it.

Lots of the Eldar from that era, and many of the Orks as well.

Nothing from the 80s or 90s. Unless Warp Spiders were from then.

Tyranid Ravener from (I think) 2005 and Tau XV15 Stealth Suits from 2001 are the closest to "classic" I enjoy the look of.

I think original IG Storm Troopers were 1999, they were pretty lit. Kasrkin were better, but Scions are worse than both.

I guess the Raveners is the only old sculpt that I can say is better than all versions that came before and after.

Same, although I love the Nelson redesigns as well!

Other than those, the ones that immediately spring to mind are the original metal Terminators, the first ever MkVII armour Marines, and basically all of the original Goodwin Craftworld Eldar (special mention to the Warlocks, which look fantastic to this day)

The old metal scouts have held up incredibly well. A lot of the old RT officers and vets still hold a special place in my heart, but some of that is nostalgia. Chaplains have been good from every era. And there is an old IG officer that constantly finds his way onto my “favorite minis” lists of stuff I’ve done.

For 40k it’s the original Black Templar champion holding the blade two handed. Second is the amazing terminator chaplain.

If we include combo models (meaning Daemons from WHFB/40k) it’s the thin KoS with the bull head (not squid head). I got into slaanesh BECAUSE of that model.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Those were great! The new ones represent maybe the greatest drop in quality for any 'updated' sculpt.
