As usual, I am not just behind the curve but so far back I can't even see the curve. Due to BL stretching out the release of the Horus Heresy novels in mass market paperback form, I am still quite a ways back, even now the series has finished (I just finished The Burden of Loyalty and Wolfsbane is next, due in Feb). Given that the series finishes with the invasion of Terra and the new series picks up the actual battle for Terra, I had a couple of questions in mind. I appreciate there may not be any specific answers to this without insider knowledge from BL, which is probably not forthcoming, so please feel free to speculate.

The couple of issues that concern me:

a). Is the Siege of Terra going to be another 50+ novel series, stretching and spinning out the story to breaking point with millions of bit-part characters and dead-end plot points or do you think the series is likely to be wrapped up fairly swiftly?

b). Given the point above, are BL releasing these novels in mass market paperback form? If so, are they still sticking to their ridiculous policy of not publishing them until months (years) after the large format size?

I refuse to be gerrymandered in to buying larger format paperbacks (and for a larger price) just to keep abreast of the release pace. I would really like to collect the series so I have a complete story arc from start to finish but if it means having to switch book sizes and collecting another 50+ novels over the next 20 years, then I probably won't bother.

a) Siege of Terra has been stated to consist of eight novels, with an undisclosed amount of novellas.

b) no idea, but personally, since it is only going to be eight books and is "the series of all series" when it comes to 40k/Horus Heresy, I am collecting them all in hardcover format to have them all in a nice set.

If it is only going to be 8 novels, then that is slightly more palatable and something worth considering. Cheers!
