This is why I don't want a 9th edition. If we stick with 8th, the range will expand. If we go to 9th, they just have to release everything that has existed for 33 years all over again.
Sticking with a living edition is the only way to actually expand the galaxy, the lore and the range.
Long live 8th!
I doubt it, I's say that releases on the other hand tended to often come in the trail of changing editions. I might be mistaken since I only took up 40k back in 2014, but I'm pretty sure jumping to new editions has very little impact on the rate of releases.

Eh AoS has managed to add a good few extra armies ontop of battletomes for existing ones. The game's currently standing at just over 20 factions. Granted a good number are tiny armies in terms of model variety and diversity. Marines are a problem; however I think that the Kirby era also had some elements that were discouraging the addition of models creep in. Things like Yinarri and Primaris suggest that they were trying to squeeze of maximum profits for reduced investment. Primaris not replacing marines as a new armour design, but trying to run alongside them so that instead of having an "optional replacement" you had a "more encouraged" expansion to the army; whilst Yinarri was simply a means to getting Dark/Craftworld players to expand their armies sideways into ranges already released.
GW can give us Exodites if they want. It really is a case of them wanting and choosing to invest into them.
That siad I do agree that a longer stable edition does improve chances to add content.
With GW's new approach to rules with increased balancing and frequency of updates I do wonder if the next edition won't be a wholesale rules chance as we are used to; but instead more of a collective update to perhaps 5 or more years of updated and adjusted rules. By which point many existing gamers would be more than happy to pay new rulebook prices to get a combined tome that updates and refines things. It would mean less pressure to get out Codex in a rapid rate at launch - since they'd also be more about correction and updating rather than wholesale change.s

You may get to see an Exodite in BSF - given that is where the outliers show up.
Personally, I think something has sorely gone tits up with GWs release schedule and the trash that is Psychic Awakenening is doing its best to cover it up and distract people.
No Emperor's Children and World Eaters by now? Pull the other one.
|
Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

It might also just be a combination of
1) GW is still waiting for the new factory to come online - along with the fact that one of their other factories had power issues due to the local power grid having troubles
2) Specialist games selling way beyond what they expected putting additional strain on things. Both in terms of production output, warehousing and also cashflow in terms of investment into new moulds and models.
3) AoS is clearly eating a lot of resources and it certainly needs them. What with adding new armies, but also many armies iwthin it either need major updates to old models and/or additions to bulk of what are currently quite small armies in terms of model diversity.
So its not that anything is wrong just that its a system overloaded and something has to give. There's a good few "no brainer" updates in the 40K lineup that are sorely needed to get rid of finecast and update the model line. Most arimes can point to a few things that are almost certain to appear "at some point". It's more a case of when rather than if these days.

The number of expected sales of Exodites is not large enough to make them interesting for GW.
Funnily, they have absolutely no problem generating bucketloads of elf factions for AoS, and all of them sell. Either all knife-ear fans moved out of 40k, or GW decided to ignore everything for pidgeonholing the whole game into one range sales.

Well, anybody saying they wouldn't sell should have a look at the strange fish elves in AoS. Imo that's one of the weirdest concepts GW ever came up with and yet it has found a niché. So, elves on dinosaurs would definitely sell. Everyone loves dinosaurs. Just like pirates (so there's hope for corsairs, too) and Ninjas.
And in 40K terms, Space Marines I guess.

That's literally what's keeping my wife from playing 40k. She plays AoS (with Seraphon). If they had exodites in 40k she'd be playing. She simply doesn't like the look of any 40k army.

Given that Sisters of Battle, according to GW, did reasonably well, there might be more demand for exodites than they think. There are plenty of people who played with dinosaurs instead of robots who would probably like exodites.
On the other hand, I have to wonder is Sisters of Battle actually did as well as they say it did. On release day, soon after opening, they put up a pre-prepared article like half an hour after opening that said it had sold out in record time and faster than they were expecting, but took it down and re-uploaded it like 12 hours later with some of the lines edited [but the *'ed witticisms that referenced them still there, and then again without the *'s]. I don't think the Ork buggies did as well as they expected, and know for a fact that Phoenix Rising flopped, so even if SoB did well then 1 hit out of 3 probably doesn't bode well for their confidence in releasing not-a-space-marine for the near future.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

Are dionosaurs really that popular, I thought only girls are interested in them?
maybe that is why GW doesn't bring eldar dinos in to the game. there just aren't enough people who would want to buy them. When the player split is closer to 50/50, the chance of seeing them could become a reality.

I think Dinosaurs are popular enough to sell, maybe not marine high, but then nothing else GW makes sells like marines anyway.
I suspect they do not produce all the battle battleforce boxes in the same quantity.
So while this does show they underestimated demand, it doesnt necessarily mean they sold better than the others.

If your a girl maybe, they love all things animal. But if your not then cars, guns and stuff like that are the popular stuff. And porn as soon as you get a phone.
But to be honest, it is not like I have some deep hate for dinos, I just didn't think that dudes would be interested in them. It is not as much strange, as unexpected. You know the way in some countries you don't take off your shoes when you come in to someone elses home.

you're not given a choice. you get a car and that is it. Mostly it is car/gun of some sort, them more, then legos. then you get a phone, and toys stop to matter. and when you get a game worthy machine or a consol, fee will get enough money to buy anything else. Gaming with all the passes and catch up mechnanics cost so much, you practicaly have to be an adult with a job to keep up. A friend spends around 200$ each month on raid shadow legends and he isn't even in the top 300.

That's a choice though. You dont have to play games with ridiculous monetisation, other options exist. I'm playing RDR2 at the moment, pretty cheap now and getting hours and hours out of it.
Even if you want to play online with people, there are great games with zero pay to win elements.

They make Dinosaur legos too. And in my experiences parents give gifts they think will suit their children, but they are also led by their children when making choices. If you are showing more interest in dinosaurs than guns then you'd likely get a dinosaur rather than a gun.
Of course different generations will sometimes have limit points on what they think is suitable. Eg for a long time the idea of giving a boy a Barbie doll wouldn't be something most parents would do and they'd try to encourage their boy in other directions.
However a dinosaur is pretty much a safe area for most save those who are anti-dinosaur.
Asides Warhammer is just a toy anyway. And you can get dinosaur warhammers - a huge army of Seraphon if you want. Of course we are STILL waiting for that Exodites army!

Citadel miniatures are probably made from recycled dinosaurs as well. So basically we are all playing with the remains of dead lizards.
