They seem/feel more than a bit retro unlike the Prodos ones. Is that a feature or a bug?

That is entirely up to your tastes. I do like that they harken back to the old aesthetic so well, as, to me at least, that look helps invoke the MC universe. I will admit, though, that aesthetic is very distinct, so if it doesn't appeal, that's fair.

Personally, I thought the Prodos range were gakk, the aesthetic was massively different from the originals, and not in a good way so I avoided their offering. These, on the other hand, harken back to the original range in a manner that makes me hopeful.

I like that the new minis have large shoulder pads that match the aesthetic of the old minis, without looking absolutely ridiculous. The Chronopia reboot failed dramatically at that (the whole “Warmachine called, they want their shoulder pads back” thing).

I'm not sure how I feel. I liked both the originals back in the day and the Prodos revamps. I'm just not sure the nostalgia factor will bring in newbies as much as a more modern look/feel. I admit though that I don't have a dog in the fight though as I only every had the core box (so many models in one box!!) and a couple of blisters. I drooled over many more though as they were revealed...

I think it is intended as they said they want to get back to second edition of the MC RPG feel, with both looks and background.

I like the Razide, the sculpt is competent and they haven't tried reinventing the wheel too badly.

But the IP is doomed, I question the wisdom of any company trying to work on it in the 21st century. Among their myriad of problems is that they'll inevitably clash with a much better known gaming IP that's also called "Warzone".

So long as we're being pedantic... it's not a great pose because he's holding his vacuum cleaner-sized gun by the end with one hand which makes it look like the gun must be made of styrofoam. If he was holding it by the barrel or against his hip it would like the gun has weight, but this is a bit too video gamey.

Yeah, yeah, far future, steroids, cyber boosts etc, but it does not convey weight the way it should.

It's not pedantic but rather a stylistic choice given the retro feel.

I'm a bit more concerned with the carry on luggage sized pistol melded into the thigh on the latter picture. Speaking as someone whose 3d modelling experience caps out at cubes and spheres but who has kitbashed dozens of models from digital bits, that holstered pistol looks like it was a completely separate model just added onto/into the figure (like I would do as an amateur) with the way that it clips into the thigh rather than being sculpted professionally on top of it.

That's not a pistol, it's as second primary weapon strapped to that thigh!!

Tactical rocks don't bother me too much, so long as it's on a leader figure that I will not have many repeated poses.

I had not noticed how the side arm was sculpted to the hip until Warboss pointed it out, but I definitely see it. Eh, it's not great, but not a deal breaker on the line; overall I'm still liking how they are staying close to the original aesthetic. I'd like to see some more troopers!

Earlier today I listened to an interview with the guy who runs Res Nova on Upturned Table on YouTube. This game sounds pretty fantastic. 3x3 board, mostly developed by Bryan Steele (sounds like some similarities to Dark Age, which I loved), unit cards in unit box. No stretch goals on the KS because they want to actually have painted prototypes in hand to show so people know what they are getting, minis, Rulebooks, and cards all made in the US. Minis are going to be in Sio Cast. He did mention shipping hubs for European backers too.

He mentioned expansion books likely being war zone books and that have different narrative scenarios and environmental rules.

Sounds pretty great to me.

Sounds all good except the "Unit cards in unit boxes" part - that is almost a not-buy by default for me...
I understand they want to sell miniatures instead of having folks using their old stuff, but this is very limiting and cost intensive that way. If your rules and minis are that good, put the unit values in the book or in supplements. Like FoW/Team Yankee does. Keep the cards a nice-to-have.
I am one of those who have a boat load of MC stuff already and I don't want to leave it all out, just because I didn't buy the "official" new minis to get the unit card...

Lets see...

Unit cards? Not a fan of them. Would prefer unit stats in rulebook and/or PDF.

Thanks for the correction. I still think its a bit too visually bulky for a secondary thigh firearm personally but I'll chalk that up to personal preference and a desire for a more retro style. I don't think I'll ever get my eyeline to default to the clipping weapon though as I expect more from a professional sculpt than what I can do myself as an amateur using free software. As a side note and more subtle is the same thing happening to the hand and weapon where it was just plugged in rather than adjusted/tweaked after attaching; that one is admittedly definitely a nitpick and won't matter on the tabletop bur rather only in close up pics.

I can see those complaints on Unit cards, Res Novas reasoning was that they didn’t want to print stats in a rulebook that may be out of date after an FAQ, where unit cards are easy to put a PDF out of so people can just slip them in their current cards sleeves. The other reason is that if had enough changes to a faction’s stats they could just release an updated card pack and not have to reprint or make a whole new Rulebook.

That said I don’t see how putting an updated army list in PDF is that much different than PDF unit cards.

Personally I like Unit Cards as I don’t like flipping though books when I play games.

OK, that's cool then. Cards are handy and having PDF or whole packs with all stat cards is fine by me.
Now come and take my nostalgia money!

Yeah, I think it would be awesome if them to release card packs or PDFs on release so people can use their older minis. Hopefully that will be available right away.

I think unit cards are also an in-fashion prop for games currently, Chronopia is also doing unit cards, but in this case the points will be on the manual too. I don't know if it was GW or FFG the ones that made them popular, but now many TT games are copying it as an easy way to display the stats of the units.

I don't really mind as long as it's a skirmish game, but past a certain size it becomes a burden.

Oh for sure. Once they expand to tanks and 50 some of minis on the table it will be a nightmare. They are great for five or six individual minis, but once you start getting into units and what not….yuck.

No, you're right, it's a pistol, I as just commenting on it's incredible size for a side arm! It was a good observation, I'd honestly missed it myself, and as you said, something that should be avoided easily with a CAD design. For a moment, I wondered if they were trying to pay homage to the flaws you might see in old-school physical sculpting, but no, they've done far too much updating to the kit for it to be intentional.

Did he mention if it would be "hard" or "soft" Siocast? Apparently there two formulas now offered by the company - the original, softer plastic that veered more toward boardgame PVC, and newer, harder formula that tries to get closer to HIPS. The "hard" Siocast seems to allow for easier mold line removal and clean-up (filing and actual scraping), which has always been my turn off with the softer resin/plastics: you had to physically cut the mold lines down with a blade.

Goobertown Hobbies on Youtube actually did a recent video showcasing Siocast:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMLdgF2nMSc

I'm excited for the potential of "hard" Siocast.

I'd be okay with unit cards, if the stats are also in the rulebook, in case I ever loose cards. And if they don't start doing cards for weapon or equipment upgrades. That gets silly real fast, see X-Wing TMG - even with just four minis on the board, with all the upgrade cards and tokens.

He didn’t mention if it was hard or soft Siocast, to be honest I didn’t know there was such thing as Soft Siocast. I thought it was all like the Reaper Bones USA stuff. I’ll have to check out that Goobertown video. He did mention the faction boxes having multiple build options with different heads/weapons/accessories to make different units/specialists and I imagine that would be hard to achieve with softer material. The prototypes also don’t look to have any bend to them either, though who knows what they are made of. He did also mention PVC as one of the options, and how they did not want to go that route because the bend and inability to hold detail.

If the material turns out to be anything like Mantic Restic, I am out. That stuff was horrible to clean.

The Goobertown video also introduced me to the two various types. As you mentioned, one is more bendy with hard to remove mould lines probably better suited to board games and the other is firmer with harder edges for details at the cost of some durability. Always good to have options depending on the game's use case/needs.
