Just went to check order progress and apparently there’s now a limit on orders they take per day.

I just had a look at the UK website and didn’t get the same message.

I placed an order on the 2nd, it was sent yesterday. Not delivered yet, but they seem to be getting through the backlog.

Mine keeps flicking between that screen and the usual one.

Wondering if it’s more for crowd control?

They have the queue page for crowd control.

Could be it's X orders within 24h rather than X orders from time A to time B which would screw at wrong timezones. Imagine if it's based on UK time and by the time people in US have prime shopping times europe already bought quota in full.

Or it's some bug in system

It could well be hooked up to the warehouse, with a maximum number of unfulfilled orders allowed,

so as the pack and dispatch the warning goes off, and as people shop more it comes back on

(with the warning set to deter folk from sitting there and F5 DDOSing the website trying to get an order in)

It might also be to help their staff remain positive. Even though lots of orders means pay, at times it can be really stressful to see huge back-orders and feel like you're hardly making headway before more flood in. Keeping a lid on them might well be for staff welbeing as well as helping encourage a healthy workrate so that staff don't end up breaching corona measures as they start rushing.

Again remembering that the staff are likely working slower and with fewer of them than normal and that most of the corona measures are "abnormal" compared to how we'd usually behave.

GW has no issues getting customers at present and curtailing the number of orders might also be them encouraging customers to make one big order rather than a dozen smaller ones (esp since some might be thinking they can "game the system" by making a big order in small bits thinking smaller orders will get processed before a big one.

It's possible it's a stock control measure. Previously it didn't matter too much if stock levels were out as they could always make more, but with the factory closed they need to keep on top of what they actually have.

It's fine to not sell too much stuff every day, but the message also prevents you browsing and looking at model colour schemes...

Odds are shop wasn't designed for quick on/off sales. When store was being opened it was off for a while. Redirect to new page is much quicker to do

Even more so if open/closed is automated based on sales in 24h period etc

Agreed, plus its likely turning all the stock to "out of stock" breaks bits of the system that then have to read the actual shop inventory; heck it might even mean manually putting all the inventory numbers back itno the system to get it going again. That's fine if one once (its then just a stock-take) but every day would be a nightmare.

IT also likely helps them stop their email system getting slammed for requests when the store isn't selling an item. They know people want everything (pretty much) right now so they don't need that data and they can't even react to it (the factory is offline).

I'm fine with them setting limits on how much can be ordered per day. Some of us would like to just browse the selection though. Or heaven forbid we'd like to download a FAQ. Also, as far as their digital selection goes, does that even need anyone to man it?

This isn't unique to GW. My sister has been complaining about trying to shop online at TJ Max and Marshall's (clothing stores). They have a limited number of orders a day they allow. She's been having to make sure to place orders before 7 AM PST or else the limit is already reached.

sounds like more GW shinanigans. Create a demand to keep interest high. Sure they can use this kind of stuff to justify more price hikes in the future.

For a couple of days though it was showing a 'maintenance' that prevented you from doing so, citing that you could visit GW instead.

And you can buy some stuff. It's just that it is stuff that is from GW proper.

on another note looks like they're out of stock of the basic battlesister box.

The biggest downside to this maintenance page?
I can’t check order status.
Seems to go to that page between 10pm and 8am for me (there abouts)

Would be nice to still be able to check these things.

There are conspiracy theories, and then there are conspiracy theories that ignore the fact that there’s frickin coronavirus and ascribe malice where in actual fact a company is simply trying to keep their staff as safe as possible whilst still asking them to come to work... seriously now, trying to spin this as GW evil is bizarre even for this site.

I’m honestly not surprised sadly.
GW could start buy one get one free on their models and it would spin off to be some big money grabbing scam, trying to steal innocent peoples money.
Over time I’ve just learned to ignore most of this crap.
GW is far from a “good” company but they have limits.
Sadly people like to find patterns and assumptions where there really aren’t any.

Honestly I suspect this is purely to maintain the sanity of their working staff packing boxes. Limiting orders means that they don't come in in the morning with another several thousand orders made overnight. That means staff are likely working within some tolerances of how many orders they have to process on a daily basis and they can keep on top of a daily tally of orders. Even if the gross total remains the same it likely helps their moral a lot - which in turn means that there's less pressure to have staff cut corners in new safety measures. Which can easily be done without any instruction, just because most safety measures right now are "abnormal" to normal human behaviour.

I suspect it also has a knock on effect that it encourages more people to place fewer bigger orders rather than lots of "Oh another one" type orders. Esp with free shipping on £20 right now.

GW doesn't need to limit stock to make it sell; they've just had several weeks where all their 3rd party stock basically sold out everywhere. GW doesn't need to encourage more sales; heck pre-lockdown they were still getting the odd "out of stock" item and their factory was still running all the time. GW has no problem with getting customers and having stuff sell in general. Sure there's likely a few lines that don't sell "as well" or overstocked lines, but right now they are broadly selling whatever they make.

also by limiting order it ensures they'll be able to process orders, thus reducing incidents of "WHERE'S MY STUFF!"

I placed an order on the 2nd too, which was dispatched on Monday but also don't think that has arrived yet either. It's not just GW that's working at reduced capacity at the moment, it's Royal Mail as well - so be prepared to wait.

I will agraee this is probably more the reason is shipping and time length, but with them closing their doors I am sure that raising their prices to accomodate for losses by being closed isn't that bizarre as the demand increases they can justify a price hike before the end of the year to show profits when most businesses will she showing major losses. Not that GW needs a reason to justify price increases but it sure could give them one.

I stopped buying from them religiously when they went to be more of a publishing company then a miniature company. Needing to bring more books then a college student to play a game is beyond a level of rediculousness that i can readily accept especially when everyone else has their rules online for free. I will pick up stuff every now and again but i am over buying all the codexes, espansions, etc. I got enough books to start a library. Not to mention their price differences in other countries is rediculous. Wish i could make my own exchange rate. Most companies don't do that.

LOTS of companies set differant rates in differant countries you just don't see it much because most of the companies you deal with are based in the US.

even back when the Canadian dollar was HIGHER then the US dollar, Canadians where paying MORE for books then Americans where for example.

Easy to complain. How many store codes you have programmed and how many of them were designed with corona in mind?

Faq's are on warhammer community so this doesn't affect but hey let's not get facts get in way of whine eh? Ditto for warhammer digital which is on another site. Have you checked that one or just games workshop?

And it's not like you have to wait for next day. It seems to be the within 24h period since I see that page sometimes and hour later can order again. But hey it's so hard to wait a bit eh?

Its likely that the website was not designed with the ability to easily turn off all buy buttons in mind and chances are that the buy button is linked to other things in a way that causes other issues elsewhere in their system.

If like me you are painting things up at the moment and want to check the website 360 views to help you then it kinda sucks but its probably the best quick and dirty hack they could get in place to manage stock at the moment.
