Looks very good. I like the idea of the individual numbers. Gives them a quick shot of character.

Ok ... Have to preface this with I walked into a local game shop right as COVID was starting, as I knew I was going to have a WHOLE bunch of time. Zero research and asked for those models easiest for me to start with. Got the Space Marines. All good. On my little journey. Now ....
I start reading about the new Box Set and see these Necrons. Had zero idea what these were or that they existed. HIGH level of interest.
Suddenly, I want to paint some of those little guys. Meanwhile, I have one box of bikers and Intercessors for my marines along with custom logo/decals on way.
My guess is this is normal for those in the hobby, as I have noticed people have this pile of shame thing. I am torn ... but I am digging the Necrons.
Do you all sort of bounce between projects? Keep in mind I have finished 10 total minis in my hobby journey.

Thats normal. I have 3 armies I'm working on for 40k at once. Different paces - my Iron Hands are incredibly boring to paint - but inbetween I can paint a titan for Tyranids or airbrush a tank for the traitor guard. I'm never bored and there is never a project not to work on.
Necrons you could fully paint in a weekend for a fun side project army.

@Stevefamine ... thank you.
I think some small change would be nice and, as I am new, having items that I can finish quickly. Now, the problem is trying to find a box of them to paint.
This thing of supply and demand slight issue

I may have found some at a local store. I think this would help, as you inferred, with ADD.

If you can support the local store, that's just a bonus. Everyone loves the Necrons. They were one of the first armies I collected, and it was a quick job to get them to tabletop ready, which really helped me in terms of cultivating early hobby energy.

Glad to hear it! Yeah, I'm a big advocate for local shopping. I stopped using Amazon years ago; there's an FLGS, a used book store, a specialty science-fiction book store, and several independent concert venues throughout San Diego that I make a point to support. Especially now ~ bought some merch if you can.
Congrats on finding a 9th edition box! Grab onto it with both hands, there'll be many other suitors competing for that rose.

And here we go! I'd guess that green plastic gives it away. I was able to find some Necron Warriors and box of immortals. Even though the 12 mile round trip in ATX traffic took 2 hrs ... yeah, LA & NYC we are right there with you .... and worth it.
Things were cruising along this evening until ... the heads. Disaster ...
I have some nerve damage in both hands/fingers. Helps I am ambidextrous, as it could be worse, yet still some limited use, etc. Necron heads .... I think I damaged all 12 to a point it will be noticed. Don't have enough dexterity to manage a clean cut away from the curved face. My solution ... locate someone at one of the shops, who is proficient in such things ... and pay them to help me. I did not run into this problem with the Space Marines.
Hey GW ... dude ... it's a plastic skull not a bar of gold. Make it a little bit easier to get off the sprue?
File in the department of stuff happens. My goal was to get all of them built tonight. Post head debacle my fingers gave out.
I love these models. So cool. Best part? My Screamer Pink/Blue color scheme I like so much .... yep ... totally works with these.
If someone has some secret to managing those skulls and a clean cut on their faces, please, let me know. I tried an Exacto. I tried a curved bladed made for an Exacto. I even tried my Dremel at the lowest possible speed with a special curved adaption. Not awesome.

Wow. It's been a LONG time since I built Necrons. The plastics had just been released. And the army lasted long enough for me to paint a few Warriors and some Scarabs. So I can't offer any insight or aid there. However, I am quite interested in seeing that color scheme applied to Necrons. Should you still have some dings in the models, take heart that GW has decided that Warriors look a bit more beat up in the new edition.

@maxwin ... thanks. I got them off the sprue but that area it connects at the cheek/skull ... whoof
And I am just learning the arms are in fact paired by what is on the sprue. I thought they were all auto match.

Oh yeah, and a good few of those guys have knife marks all over the face from me trying to carve away sprue. youwashock is right though, take heart from the more-damaged new Warriors. And there's a long tradition of damaged Necron Warriors before that. A few battle scars and age works well for Necrons.

Getting those built took me a long time. For someone new to all of this ... not easy. (Positive news ... I have confirmed the new Necron models are super simple to assemble especially in comparison to these) Despite the challenges ...
I dig these little dudes. My engagement level far higher than with the Space Marines.
I wanted to get a cool not dark finish on the metallic. Thus, I primed them with Vallejo equivalent to ultra marine blue. Then, I hit them with Leadbelcher. It worked. Cool finish. Not dark, as if put over black. Not shiny, as if put directly over grey.
Of course, I get this comment from my wife .... wow, how come you can do so many of those in a day and it took you weeks to do just a few of those other things? And those little skeleton guys are better.
This is a test model with the blue/pink. Once I got it to a certain point I realized it looks like one of 3 EPL clubs, if you follow the league, and I really don't care for the scheme. I plan on painting the pink shoulder pads black and, then, doing a quick highlight to see how it looks. If I don't like it, I am going to paint by Necrons by the book/box cover.
I have started a habit of post priming. Anything that I am going to paint a different color than the primer I go back and hit with a neutral gray. Then, if it is intended to by brighter, Clorax White and, then, white. So that gun piece that glows and the cable ... all 3. The shoulder pads got varying degrees of each color in diff places. I am finding it gives me a deeper volume for the color(s) that will go over top of it.
The Good
I dig the models and enjoy painting them. In honesty the marines were becoming more like work than fun.
Despite the building disaster and all the mistakes I did learn I will have to slow down assembling these especially cuts from sprue
The new Necrons are allegedly much easier to build
I can paint these quicker and it help with confidence. In theory I could also actually play the game sooner
I have that whole glow rod/cable thing going. I am half way decent at that
The Bad
Those poor little guys have all sort of dents and dings and will forever be test models
Instead of finishing one test model. I continue to do all of them to a certain point and, then, highlight one. I have to stop doing this.
I only dropped one expletive during the assembly process early Sat morning Like I have mentioned, limitations with my fingers make what should be easy a challenge at times
The Ugly
I think the only way I can get more Necrons is buying the box set. Bunch of stuff I don't really need.

Nice job on the blue glow. I think black shoulderpads would create some interesting negative space that would help keep the blue gauss energy as the focal point of the model. If you do end up grabbing the Indomitus starter kit I'm sure you'd be able to flip the Marines to someone else in your community, or you could check out the Dakka Swap Shop and see if anyone would be willing to trade you Marines for cash or even more Necrons.

@youwashock ... thank you. I enjoyed painting the marines and like the look/feel of my orange models but I REALLY liked knocking out the Necrons. Sort of odd and hard to explain.
@donquihotep ... When I get a free 5 mins, I am going to call the store that had the Necrons. Not my normal local store and I am big, big on service. Person that helped me was super friendly. Going to connect and see if he can connect me with someone else buying a box that may want to swap. Or I just keep the marines. Also, the black shoulder pads .... I am going to try a test and use the traditional GW method of highlighting grey. Might use a tiny bit of blue. If I don't like it, then opting for the traditional look. It's hard to beat that green/green glow/black.
As always, any feedback appreciated.

It continues. I took a small break and painted the shoulder pads black, as well as the gun casing. With what I learned on my initial marines the highlights came out better. Of course ... my wife ...
The pink looks better.
I know there is an existing dynasty with this color and I think that GW may introduce another. Like this better than the pink.
I would change the blue. I went neutral grey to clorax white to white and, then, B'roth blue to b'roth blue/white 50/50 to white. It is TOO Bright with not enough contrast.
I would start much a much deeper yet bright blue to b'roth blue to white.

Necron is looking sweet! I personally like the black far more than the pink on the carapace. Did you manage to snag a pre-order for the indomitus box? I'd like to see what you can do with some of those new necrons.

Thank you.
The store I have bought everything from ... sold out. They are small and local. ATX, though, has multiple GW stores and both have the boxes. My understanding is the only way to get new Necrons ... buy the box. So that's happening Saturday.
I am a visual person, which is why I do so many test models. I want to "see" it in person. The GW location I visited Friday was in process of building the new box set and painting them to box art. I will get to "see"" them this weekend.
I sort of like the new look. I like the traditional look. The black look, which I think is Thokt and, then, the Nihilakh. Cool colors. HIGHLY likely I make an attempt at painting one of each just to see and, then, learn.
Also, thanks for confirming the pink looks better. My wife won't let it go. Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was prior to painting. Conceptually, loved it. Once done ... I keep seeing one of three EPL team uniforms and don't dig the look. A darker blue would most likely help and that would also help the black.

So ... I settle on a paint scheme. Love these colors and I opted to mute them tiny bit. Given that whole million year old and the "new" GW thoughts on Necrons, brought the brightness down just a bit.
I used Stegadon Green, as a base on the shoulder plates. 3 layers painted down. Then, Sotek Green with 3 layers going up and I tried to blend. Then, highlights of T'Hawk and B'roth blues. Finally, the whole Lahmian Medium with some yellow to give it the glaze. Muted vs LOUD.
I used what was sort of like a glaze of leather brown on the head mask (gold). I found painting directly onto Leadbelcher not the easiest thing. Has a hard time taking some not all paint colors. After the brown dried, I put down gold.
These need final highlights. The bodies and, then, the rifles. Some but not all of the heads.
I painted the chest plates and, now, not digging the look. Need to go back and change.
Getting the eyes to POP with the gold is not easy. The green and yellow green gets a little lost.
For me, as a new painter, I give myself a passing grade on the glowing weapons. Took a lot of time and worth it. I learned some things about mixing' blending and, then, paint placement to get the highest density of color.
I have gotten good with the 3 Foot Rule. These at arm's length look decent.
Opening the Indomitus Box to look at all the gear had my anxiety ... more stuff to paint ... sky rocket. Once I finish these and my box of Immortals ... also a step to continue to get better .. I will get into the new models.
Still determining how I want to deal with the arm/leg plates (color them or not) and the new grunge look (what color if any) to put on the models. I am finding contracts paints do look awesome on metallic paints. However, can be a little strong and hard to move around. Now, that I understand what Lahmian Medium does I may use my own color. Undecided.
As always, all feedback appreciated.

I love this dang color scheme. And I'd say you get more than a passing grade on the glow effects - I really dig it! I would vote for putting color on some of the other armor, maybe on the forearms and calf plates.
For the eyes, maybe consider highlighting up to pure white to help with them pop a bit more.
I hear you on the box anxiety. I have a completely untouched Chaos Knight in its box because I simply don't know how to tackle the project!

Thank you. Much appreciated and good know someone else has anxiety on a back-log of models.
I did the pupils in white and flooded the socket with watered down Moot Grown. Then, yellow on pupil. Only did this on 2 models. At this point why not try white on the entire area and see what happens ... good idea
LOVE these colors and glad I found them. I have read many times ... really enjoyed painting (insert model name here). I understood it yet it did not resonate. Totally get it now. I just motor through these guys and time passes.
My thinking is the basic guys may get basic colors. Then, the next level of troops more colors. Speaking of I have to go back and add the stripe to their helmets.

The latest guys are looking good. Something that may help the eyes pop more is painting the socket a much darker color, even black. Then, dot the eye in. The separation and contrast will make the eye stand out.

Thank you.
I have to figure this one out. The gold is the current visual obstacle and I need to find a way to get something that won't get lost in the gold and, then, lend itself to somehow help with a glow
My instinct is some type of brown, as it would sync with the gold/yellow'ish green
This is my next little test with the rest of the my troops. I have 2 with the green eyes. Don't look awful. Just don't look as good as I would want

Bloody hell Sir, you have only been painting a couple of months? This is great progress. You are already neat and are good at laying down smooth coats of paint in the right place so that is half the battle already won.
As for Indomitus I would suggest breaking it down into chunks. Build a unit and paint it. Then build a character or elite choice as a reward and paint it. With the Necrons there are some easy wins like the scarabs. Personally I would leave the Skorpek Lord and destroyers, and the Reanimator until last. They are the biggest 'crons in the set so build up your confidence and scheme in your head and you will do them justice.
Best of luck.
Oh and regarding Martian Ironearth I forgot to mention a final dry brush of Cadian Fleshtone over the Ironearth just to make it pop a bit.
