Richard 'Orclord' Hale has been adding scans of Troll Magazine to Stuff of Legends.
Troll was a monthly newsletter done by the mail order trolls with tons of ideas for conversions and use of bits from the 90s and 00s. It was especially useful for ideas on how to kitbash Land Raiders, Sentinels and other OOP but important models during the transition from Rogue Trader to 2nd edition and even into 3rd. I think the LR was out of production for almost 10 years in there.
So revisit those nostalgic days of metal models, pin vices and gluing your fingers together!

He's missing 2, 3 and 9 if anyone has them.
Buy things, on the internet you say? Is that like AoL?
At last I can add a Sentinel to my Imperial Guard!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
If there is one tank that is worthy of the Space Marines it is the Land Raider!

Not as an army, IIRC.
That said, my main fantasy army at the time was Undead Bretonians. Vampire Lord Nevelon the Betrayer, leading the Wights of the Realm. And as this was 5th, there were a LOT of actual Bretonian players, as they came in the starter. Lots of heavy cavelry charges. (Most of which I came out ahead on)

Tim Huckelbery chimed in on FB to say it was his. I don't know how he made it but off hand I think I see the metal (epic 40k) Warlord Titan legs and then I assume some random turret.
He posts on Dakka sometimes so hopefully he'll see this.

Looks like a conversion involving the third edition warlord Titan, and various chimera parts

It's a conversion, think it's got parts of a hellhound turret and maybe epic titan legs (Lucius Warlord, but without the lower leg guards).

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

I'd never seen that before either. Intriguing. I always wondered why they moved away from the one based on the picture in rogue trader (below). I assume it had something to do with the popularity/look of the AT- ST.

Back when GW cast most things in metal and, whilst still big, had a smaller market than now; they did bits ordering. They even produced a catalogue every single year with every model and every part shown so you could order them up.
With metal the casting process itself is more hands-on and if you only want one bit from a kit you just cast up the part you want, toss it in a back for the mail and then put the rest back in the melting pot and melt hte metal down to be cast again with no degradation of the metal.
So it was possible and practical for them to do parts ordering.
With injection moulded plastic that's not possible; eve now when you get a miss-cast part GW will just send you a whole new replacement kit.

They had bits bins. Whole models were cast up, the components were separated, and the bits were sold. They didn't just cast up whole models for one bit and then chuck the rest back in the furnace as a matter of policy, that would be an insane waste of energy. What you're suggesting would only happen to the surplus parts after a specified period of time.

They probably didn't even need to cast up all the bits for one model. Just the required bit to fill up that bin.
I remember at Games Day in 95, they brought one of the casting machines to the Birmingham NIA. Each mold cast about 20 Assassins at one time.

They could do sprue sales, some sprues have extraodinarily useful bitz for when it's not worth buying it for a set of wings or a weapon.
It would have been great 10 years back when they discontinued metal bitz but 3d printing makes it irrelevant.

Troll magazine!!! That brings back some memories. I wish I kept them all. I may have to dig through my old pile of White Dwarfs to see if I have any. They had great kit bashing deals. I got my first ork battle wagon through them. It's main parts was a imperial guard chimera for the body. Eight tires for movement. A skorcha turret on top. A pair of dreadnought claws for ccwpn and a zap gun behind the turret. It's dwarfed today by my other ork battle wagon but it always sees combat first.

Sob!
Three Praetorian Imperial Guard for a fiver.
Those were the days. I mean have cracking on for 600 of them but at that price, there would be more.
My first Schaefer's Last Chancers from the 2nd Ed Codex were based around the Commander miniature and the RT era models as per the UK #7.
