Huh, They're actually doing the sane thing and produce a core Marine codex and giving the Special Snowflake chapters supplements.

This means if they do something like PA again, they won't have to spend half of it just updating marines datasheets so they can have different words on the bottom.'

I'm impressed

So from what I am reading, DA, BA, SW, and DW 'get' to buy a new core book and a new supplement? Marines paying in money what they don't pay in points?

The core book that they always complained about 'needing' in addition to their codices when/if the main book got updated is now where all their main profiles are.
Supplements will give them their own, unique stuff.

I don't really like that Monolith as much as the old one tbh. Too busy.

It's probably less painful to build though.

So the monolith has jumped to super heavy status. If its now a LoW that will kind of suck.

No skin of my nose if it means it’s getting appropriately buffed. I already have two monoliths, a pylon, an obelisk and a seraptek. I’ll have no issues running lord of war detachments.

I agree. I liked the simplicity of the old monolith. This doesn't need a spider-snake on the back, or layers upon layers.

Not sure about less painful to build, though. Less hoping the panels didn't warp and will hold together, sure. But this will have to be done in stages- the central column will need to be assembled and painted, then the box frame and the lightning gate, then the outer shell. The exposed interior bits will be a pain.

Not sure about this bit either
It’s bigger, it’s more detailed, and it’s even more dangerous on the tabletop – part transport, part fortress, and capable of going toe to ominous geometry with Knights and other super-heavies.

I hope they don't shift this into LoW for no reason.

Though I’ve got to say, all the talk on their community page about it being a transport will be lies if they haven’t radically changed how the gate works.

What makes you say that?

It says it can go toe to ominous geometry with other super heavies like knights. If it moves to LoW that would make it harder to put in an army and if it doesn't but gets a points hike it will still be once again hard to fit in an army.

"Here's everything in one big book, you'll need a supplement for your specific Chapter stuff."
"We don't want to have to have a separate book for our specific Chapter stuff!"

You cannot pretend these are not arguments that we have not seen right here on Dakka.
This will not be a big knock-on effect for anyone who isn't a FOTM player. $30 for a supplement is not going to break anyone...unless they're someone who hops from Chapter to Chapter based on FAQs.

And even then? $30 vs the $40 of the full Codex.
And even then? This cuts four full codices out of the release schedule.

The fanatical loyalty people have to the GW brand is often cult-like. I don't know if it's pure Sunk Cost Fallacy in action or some kind of financial fetishism at work. The app could literally break your phone and people would still defend them for it, it's absurd.
"Those people like something I don't, clearly there is something wrong with them!"

Do you think it is acceptable for GW to produce and charge for such a deficient product as long as a couple of folks will pay them for it?

I think it is acceptable for any product to succeed or fail based entirely on consumer demand and appetite rather than personal feelings of dakka forum posters.

Good think companies pour billions into psychologically manipulating demand then.

Transcribed Dynasty Codes:

MEPHRIT: SOLAR FURY
Add 3" to the range characteristic of ranged weapons(excluding something) that models with this code are equipped with.
Each time a model with this code makes a ranged attack that targets a model within half range, the armour penetration characteristic of that attack is improved by 1.
When the protocol of the vengeful stars is used you get both command protocols instead of one.

NOVOKH: AWAKENED BY MURDER
Add 1" to charge rolls made for units with this code.
Each time a model with tthis code makes a melee attack, if the model has made a charge move, was charged, or performed a heroic intervention this turn, improve the armour penetration characteristic of this attack by 1.
When the protocol of the hungry void is used you get both command protocols instead of one.

NEPHREKH: TRANSLOCATION BEAMS
Models with this code have a 6+ invulnerable save.
Each time a unit witth this code advances, it can translocate. If it does, do not make an advance roll for it. Instead, until the end of ttthe phase, add 6" to the move characteristic of the models in that unit. If a model translocated, until the end of the turn, models in that unit cannot shoot.
Each time a unit with this code falls back or translocates, until the end of tthe phase, models in that unit can move over models and terrain as if they were not there.
When the protocol of the sudden storm is used you get both command protocols instead of one.
//
//(edited)
[8:39 AM]
NIHILAKH: AGGRESSIVELY TERRITORIAL
Units with this code have the objective secured ability as in the core book. If a model in such a unit already has this ability, that model counts as one additional model when dettermining control of an objective marker.
Each time an attack with an armour penetration characteristic of -1 is allocated to a model with this code, if that model's unit is wholly within its controller's deployment zone, that attack has an armour penetration characteristic of 0 instead.
When the protocol of the eternal guardian is used you get both command protocols instead of one.

SZAREKHAN: UNCANNY ARTIFICERS
Each time a model witth this code would take a wound as the result of a mortal wound, roll one D6, on a 5+ that wound is ignored.
Each time a unitt with this code is selected to shoot or fight, you can re-roll one wound roll when making that unit's attacls.
When the protocol of the undying legions is used you get both command protocols instead of one.

SAUTEKH: RELENTLESS ADVANCE
Each time a morale test is ttaken for a unit with this code, you can re-roll that test.
Instead of following the normal rules for rapid fire weapons, models with this code shooting rapid-fire weapons make double the number of attacks if the shooting model's target is within 18".
When the protocol of the conquering tyrant is used you get both command protocols instead of one.

So they've traded a single Codex for a Codex and a supplement.

I honestly don't know what you're angry about, other than being angry about "FOTM" players, which no one has brought up.

Probably won't be buying it any time soon (I have other priorities than buying into 9th right now), but suffice to say I am pleasantly surprised.

The only person who suffers worse are people who collected only ONE Chapter. And, let's be honest, why did *they* get a wholly unique Codex, but other Marines players were incentivised to buy a Codex+Supplement? At least now they're all getting updated at the same time.

Did you advocate for Ultramarines, Salamanders, Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, White Scars, Raven Guard, etc all getting their own unique Codexes, so they didn't need to buy supplements?

Hand was green so should be Death Guard

So Death Guard, Mechanicus (maybe the Skitarii HQ everyone wanted?), Dark Eldar, Orks and a new Sister

I mean I would have been fine if they had just gotten rid of supplements and chapters had just been differentiated by a paintjob and perhaps couple of extra rules in the codex. But a lot of people probably wouldn't have liked that.

But this unification of marine rules is long overdue and overall only a good thing. And anyway, the supplement is optional, you don't need to get it to play.
