The best part is: it isn't even a 85 point tax. It's literally an 85pt thing that MAKES THE GAME HARDER FOR YOU.

The ork faq tells you the traits that the Mekboy Workshop takes.

Now, unless I'm misunderstanding how the mekboy workshop works, what a mekboy workshop is is everything that comes in this box: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Ork-Mek-Workshop-2018

So that's the central workshop piece, the 3 barricades, and the 3 piles of scrap. All that junk has to be in your deployment zone at the start of the game, which in the new board size feels freeaking microscopic already.

What terrain traits does it get? Oh, you know, Difficult Ground and Unstable Position. Also, all of it for the most part is over 1" tall at the tallest point. And not Breachable, why would it get Breachable, that's silly!

So to move over these fething piles of junk, you have to subtract minimum 3" from your movement, AND infantry don't move thru it for free, AND you CANT DEPLOY ANY OF YOUR UNITS ON TOP OF ANY OF IT, and if you don't have enough movement to get over it which with the large junk piles is like a minimum of 12" move, then you can't move over it at all because Unstable Position prevents you.

uuuuurgh. Oh, but it gives you terrain traits, right? Maybe if you're a vehicle-focused ork army, you could use it to create advantageous cover for your vehicles turn 1? nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnope, it ONLY has terrain traits that infantry can make use of! Hooray!!!!!!!

-If non-infantry could make use of its cover rules
-Or if you could place it in no-man's land to impede your opponent's advancing units
-Or if the datasheet ability it has was any good at fething all
-Or even if it was just a little piece of Breachable Defense Line Light Cover terrain you could put in your DZ and basically ignore with most of your units

THEN the mekboy workshop might be semi-useful in some circumstances maybe I guess.

But as it stands, it is a laughable act of self-flagellation to include one of these turds in your army.

Awww, that's probably where I was confused. Would have been nice if they had. Hopefully they will get around to that soon.

I do like the concept of these intro/starter sets. Especially the smaller one for younger/new hobbyists.

The new Command Edition box is brilliant for new players. If two friends buy one box each and then swap factions they'll have a small 500 point force, a gaming board for a 500 point game, and terrain as well for it.

I hadn't even thought about any of that...lol.
You are right though it's shocking.

For it to be even remotely playable at 85 points it would need;
the terrain rules you mentioned tidying up to something less detrimental
Grant 3 Kustom Jobs at least
AND have a decent battlefield buff rule, not the garbage it currently has you spend a turn not shooting to gain a small buff the following turn and a random chance of an uggrade.

Even if it had all of that, I'd still have to work hard to squeeze it into a list.

It's comically bad

For the longest time I have been defending GW, saying that the Marine problem hasn't gotten out of hand, and as both a Marine and Xenos player I was happy to see them getting their love and eagerly awaiting our own.

The more and more I see, the more and more it feels like GW is ruining their game and turning it into Marines only. If you play any other army, enjoy getting your brains bashed in.

It's not just the buffing of Marines, its the inexcusable nerfing of Xenos factions and the things that make them unique and fun.

Deathskullz on the shelf for a while....sigh

I mean even if it had just 1 or 2 decent rules I could see it being feasible. Like if it had Light, Heavy, Breachable, Defense Line then you could feasibly stick a unit of flash gits in it and you could plop it down on your DZ objective in missions that have those and have a nice little bunker with the gits getting the klaw rule and the Defensible rule... or if it was Dense Cover you could actually drive a buggy or bracketed vehicle up to it or something and have cover while the workshop and an attendent Mekboy each did a repair rule on it.

Its like they tried specifically to give it all the most useless traits they possibly could. God, unstable position, why the hell...?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

The terrain starter intrigues me way more than Indomitus. I'm guessing its price will not be announced before MtO period for indomitus runs out?

I wonder if it'll have the real BRB included, or if it has been cut down..

It's a cutdown rulebook. It's right there in the article.
168 pages vs 368. It probably doesn't have the maps and fluff stuff.

GW won't announce prices until preorder day. It's the independents that usually let us know the prices, since they get their order sheets on Monday/Tuesdays.

Quite liking the new starter sets.

The names are less confusing than their 8th Ed counterparts, so that’s a solid start. And given they’ll be a variety of price points, somewhat more appealing than the 2-7th Ed ‘all or nothing’. Whilst some can’t or won’t pay for the Command Edition, spending what, £30-£40 for the Recruit (prices out my bum for now) is more appealing, especially if as a parent you suspect it may just be a passing fad for your kid.

After all, it’s all money in the bank, and you’ll make your serious dollar once someone is properly hooked.

To be honest I'm glad I didn't pick up Indomitus. Assuming the Command Starter is priced like a normal 40k or GW Starter (Warcry, etc), that's much more in line with what I need to play at home. The extra board will go well with my Kill Team set-up and the extra terrain will fill it out nicely. A smaller rulebook is much to my liking as well. If only it had that cool Primaris Lieutenant in it. Oh well, him being in the cheapest starter will probably see him for 10-15 bucks on Ebay.

I wish they would make Starter boxes for several different pairs of armies. Orks vs Guard, Drukhari vs Space Wolves, Craftwords vs Tyranids, etc...... That way people can get easy access to models they like, while learning the game.

No, that's not the reason. The reason is because the Bladeguard are on a multi-model sprue alongside the Blade Guard Ancient, Chaplain and Judiciar. That's why they're not in any of these boxes. It's the same reason the Plasmancer and Reanimator aren't in any of the new starter boxes either.

You might be getting your wish. They previewed a bunch of characters at the end of the 40k launch stream. They gotta come out with something, right?

Battleboxes alongside of codex launches are a distinct possibility.

Welll that and we know the reanimator is coming with an alternate cannon option as well. So getting it with ots own kits is a goodvthing ascwevget the rest of the build options.

Also I hope that condemsed rule book is goingvto be sold on its own otherwise it is goin to be a nightmare pixking up second hand as I can see it being really popular.

Hahahaha that Ork FAQ that means you have to take the mekboy shop. So classic GW. Totally clueless, as well as making their PR releases designed to get people to buy the book into false advertising. Just like they also falsely advertised Pariah as letting you take all Inquisition units in other Imperium detachments, when you actually can only take Inquisitors, just like before.

This company, man. Nobody seems to know what anyone else in the company is doing, and nobody seems to know what any of the rule actually are.

The sprues were designed that way around first. If they wanted bladeguard in the box instead they would have designed the sprues differently. They didn't just think of these boxes after they'd finished laying out Indomitus, it was planned from the start. The WarCom "fluffy" reason is just fluff.
