I have the necrons from indom coming for me tomorrow in the mail, IF you can trust USPS tracking (Wish there wan an orkicon with crossed fingers...) and I opted to watch some videos on assembling them. Glad I did, there are a few non obvious pitfalls they may help me avoid.

For those who may benefit:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItVANnJTuT8

He has more of them.

I'm curious as to what videos 40k players use most. I see some main types mostly.:

Batreps. entertainment and education.

Obscure or hard to interpret rules point outs and explanations.

Assembling/painting tips.

Editorials/diatribes about gw and what it does wrong.

Should you buy X? Why and why not.

Lore both old and new.

So what videos do you look for and want?

Nothing. I have no tolerance for someone's longwinded, pointless rambling that takes 100x longer than it would to just read it.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Exalted.

I don't tend to watch videos about my hobbies, I have videos on to provide background noise while I work on my miniatures. I don't need to hear the latest clickbait 'top 10 primaris kneecaps' video while I'm painting.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I watch painting videos, and I'll watch the start of Winter SEO's bat reps just for the terrain and army overview, but not the batrep itself.

Don't find much interest in lore videos.

For 40k? Nothing really.
I've watched 2 AoS battles (not impressed) & one general GW one where some British guys going on about how GWs wronged him to see what the fuss was about.

My background videos of choice while building/painting etc are any of the endless history documentaries on Amazon.

I watch Tabletop Tactics for battle reports, Auspex Tactics for news, Kirioth for general banter, and Wolf Lord Rho for lore.

Some ill considered expectation regarding 9th combined with The Event means I watched an awful lot of longwinded cheerleading drivel, about the only ones I can tolerate now are 40k in 40mins and Glacial Geek along with the odd painting guide (one day i will master yellow oh yes)

I used to watch battle reports, but they are getting way worse, it seems like so many are rolling dice, make jokes and basically nothing happens over 3 hours.
Not even good games presented.

Things like lore and such, not really.

But I do watch a lot of video on the hobby, but nothing focus on 40k there, painting and modeling is a big fav with good hosts.

I use them for a bit of everything.

Sometimes its nice to see an unboxing and get an idea how a kit comes in parts and sprue and suchlike. Plus also hearing views of the person opening the box for things like detail, bubbles, etc...

Sometimes its all about assembly, crafting, painting or other hobby tips. Depending what I'm after at the time it will vary.

Then there's battle reports, though I'd say that these are very hard to do well because they require people to really do a game for the video rather than a video for the game. The latter are often hard to hear (noise in background or poor mics); often have a LOT of shakey cameras and bad/boring angles etc... Some also get the balance of cutting the video wrong or just show the whole thing, which can be quite tedious and the like. Or they never move the camera and you can't see what's going on in certain areas.
Suffice it to say a really well done battle report (eg wargamergirl) is a joy to watch whilst poorly done ones are just frustrating.

Sometimes I watch lore videos, or fan animations or background stuff. Heck even some of the comical takes are fun to watch. I don't really limit myself and I don't really have a block that I focus on. I use it for what I need it for which varies day to day.

Depends what I'm in the mood for. Put on a Batrep from GMG or someone similar if I'm painting, though sometimes I'll put on Oculus Imperia, as that channel is such a unique take lore videos, with it being done in 100% in character and in universe. (See, DarknessEternal, try watching something other that OMS, who simply read from the Wiki pages...)

Sometimes I put on Luetin09, as he and I tend to have the same view, so if I fancy my neck hurting from agreeing so much I'll put him on.

I don't really watch painting videos, as I feel art should not really be as binary as those videos make them out to be. I will make an exception for Miniac though, as I like his presenting style.

Though my main binge watch thing is not necessarily 40k, but the theme is transferable. Terrain videos. There is a whole wealth of them out there and they are very very useful nowadays.
*deep breath...* BlackMagicCraft, TheDMsCraft, Bard's Craft, Miscast Terrain, Max DM Crafting, Eric's Hobby Workshop, Dark Matter Workshop, Wyloch, Terrain Made Easy, Luke's APS, Franky D Crafter, Tabletop Witchcraft, Scratch Bashing and The Tabletop Engineer (off the top of my head).

Games Workshop Delenda Est.

If you break apart my or anyone else's posts line by line I will not read them.

Nothing. Tried a few.

Vlogs & similar: Endless enthusiasm about a maybe rumour or an "amazing" unboxing... yawned.

Battle reports: maybe unlucky in choices but truly terrible. Badly shot and dull. Hours I will never get back.

Lore: sorry, not interested.

Painting: maybe... just maybe...

I've watched painting and battle reports but none about 40k. 40k battle reports are shaky cameras watching dice roll from my experience. Always one guy faking excitement and the other barely saying anything too.
