Something old and not by GW. I am officially competing against you this month.

Well, you'll probably win by quite a bit, but I was going to make a joke about a Ral-Partha-off

Q: Is this the Parthenon?
A: No,it's the Parta-off!

Sorry, that was lame. Let's use this challenge to co-inspire each other. I'll even try to post WIP photos, which I am normally loathe to do.

Now showing various models from the previously abandoned projects!

Painting total as of 25 May 2025: 67plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

Going to paint the Mourngul for this challenge. I've had this model for a long while (used to run in him Fantasy). I've re-based him and re-primed him to add to my Nighthaunt collection. He'll never see play because he's THAT bad, but it's a great model and it fits perfectly with the theme.

Ok, if DV8 is painting that monstrosity we’re going to have to up the age-rating on the competition; this isn’t going to be PG friendly!

“You cannot kill what doesssss not live!”

My grandad bought this Judge Death model for me when we went to London for my 13th birthday. I assembled it and primed it at the time but the thin legs snapped under its weight (it’s vinyl so it started leaning very quickly). I got dejected and put it in a box in the attic.

Fast forward 24 years and I found it while looking for stuff for our baby. Going to pin it, remove the mould lines (I did a terrible job before), and give this alien superfiend the paint job he deserves.

I was about to paint them anyway so here is my entry. Not sure if I will paint all three of them by the end of the month.

I should have been done printing my beast this morning, but, I had accidentally saved the left arm print as a right arm print so now he has three left hands and axes . Fixed before work, first right axe printed while I was at work. The second will be done before I wake up in the morning. I might prime what I have done tonight at the temperature is okay.

OK, OP is updated to this point.

Lots of cool looking entries and some new faces joining us this month. Welcome aboard the scary train! Should be a fun month.

Still getting base layers down on my spooks. I’ll try to grab a WIP tomorrow.

And seeing the old lead RP stuff surfacing really wants to make me dig out the PPE and go digging into the depths of the Pile of Shame looking for heavy metals. I’d be shocked if I didn’t have a handful of skeletons in there to join the danse macabre.

Edit:
Slightly blurry, but I blame the ethereal nature of the subjects. Almost done with the basecoats.

Not exactly a Halloween model but he is skeletal and scary. My entry this month is the Skorpeth-Destoyer Lord.

Big Beast is outside drying from it's priming. I'm sure there will be more cleaning once that's done. I'll probably start painting the parts seperately and then gluing and finish painting in later steps.

So flip a coin as to whether I’ll find time / motivation to get these gals finished, but reanimated Escher gals definitely count as spooky to my mind!

Weather was perfect for priming, and I got about an hour to get the base layers of metal on.

Copied from my blog:
Not much time this morning, headed to church to get some stuff taken care of, just wanted to show that the beast has been primed and base layers of metal applied. More layers later when time permits.

Head

Horns
Torso and arms

Legs

Axes.

I’m thinking of making the horns and axe handles a different color, but will probably go leadbelcher like the mechanical parts. I’ll let the whim move me when I get there.

Copied from my P&M blog:

I also finished off the first couple of models for the October Painting Challenge:

These are Ral Partha ghosts from 198-something (a mold line runs right over the date on the underside of their bases). As always, the huge blown up images in my dakka gallery really bring all the flaws in my painting to light. The bases were inspired by Kevin Dallimore's work for Frostgrave, with a little glowy effect added. I'm torn on whether or not I should extend the green on the bases a little farther. What do you think?

Finally, I repaired and based this Angel of Death from RAFM:

The right arm was broken off at the elbow, so I pinned and superglued it in place. Originally, it stuck straight out the the side, but I repositioned it in a slightly less stupid position. For the base, I puttied in the recess, filed it smooth and hit it with white glue and sand. I then covered it with a generous layer of crackle medium, just to see what would happen.

I'm also working on a troop of dwarf crossbowmen, but they're not far enough along to share. Maybe by the end of the week...

Theo: That's a pretty impressive print, I'm just looking at you going for that and at the dragon I did a few months back that I barely got done and being pretty impressed at you likely getting it done for the month!

Horla: that satisfying feeling when you finally fix an old broken thing bothering you for a good while!

Got my base colors done on my skeletons, now to just get started actually making them look halfway presentable:

Since you asked, I'd push the glow out a little farther: highlight the nearest edges of the individual flagstones with a bit of green.

Vejut: That's a nice start on the skeletons. Are you using the same brown for the boots/gloves and the wood? It's hard to tell from the photos.

Pariah Press: Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I'm hoping I did? I've got two or three shades of orange-brown and they always confuse me which one I've grabbed (and usually I can't find the one I want!). Should also be the color on the fur cloak two of them have. Was hoping that it won't look too silly if I shade/highlight it differently, while still keeping them looking fairly group-like and not going all color-riot.
