So there's the Xbox Series X and the Playstation 5 coming out in November. Which one do you prefer?

For me, I had a PS3, then PS4's were sold out everywhere when it came out, so I switched to Xbox 1. Now, I missed the preorders for both of them so I'm stuck waiting till one or the other becomes available again.. who knows when? I'm not really tied to any one system. I kinda like how the PS5 has a version without a blu ray drive, since that's useless for me.. but the new Xbox S vs X difference is a lot bigger. So I'm kinda on the fence, i'll probably end up going which whatever one becomes available first.

I was a huge x-Box fanboy until this current gen. Had the OG X-Box and the 360, was very satisfied with both consoles. Not sure what happened with the One but Microsoft really dropped the ball IMO. I think E3 '16 or '17 is where they lost me. When Sony showed off a slew of really exciting stuff and all Microsoft had to show was Sea of Thieves... yeah, I was done. Sony looks like it's still committed to cranking out quality 1st party titles, so I'll be going PS5 for next gen though very likely not at launch. Gonna hold out for the inevitable slim release.

I guess in the end it depends on what kind of games you prefer.
Sony will be the go to console for singleplayer storybased adventure games atleast in the first year, MS will fokus on their live service multiplayer games.

Another thing to factor is the HDD. wath both machies comes with is too little so an upgrade to a bigger one is a must. For MS that prosses seems to be easy and reasonably priced but Sonly is(as usual) fubar, using a spesific kind of HDD they only make(so far) and thus the price is high. Not going to be an easy install like it will be on xbox either.

And the there is actual size issue. if you place both of them verticaly, ps5 is 1/3 taller then xbox, so the ps5 will require a fair amount of shelf space.
In in regard to size, the dualshock5 is going to be bigger too, so if you are like me and have small hand, this is bad news.

For the upcoming generation i feel preformance specs takes a 5th row seat, there is mutch more else to consider when making the choise.

I have owned all PS but i seriosuly consider to skipp sony for the next generation. (ps5 begins to look more and more like a "new ps3" and that was not a good console)

The original xbox one was a piece of junk IMO. Xbox lost me this past gen, but it looks like they're trying to up their game this time around. They bought out bethesda, so if you care about the next elder scrolls....well.

I think the ps5 will be more reliable, i've always had overheating and power issues with xbox. It got to the point where i'd boot up my xbox one and it would immediately die on me. And since they no longer produce the og xbox one I couldn't get it serviced by microsoft. Might as well just toss it in the trash at this point.

None of them.

Jokes aside - I'm very, very, VERY anti-exclusivity these days. I get why consoles need to have some kind of bonus selling point over competitors, but MS have made some good statements in regards to multi-platform titles lately, and then backed that up with some simultaneous releases (although their recent purchase of Bethesda might be a hint at the opposite).
Because of that stance, I can't justify buying any console, even knowing that that's likely locking me out of ever being able to play the more recent Spiderman games.

You hear me, Sony? If you want my money, you're gonna have to stop hoarding your titles!!

Same here- none.

And for Xbox, it barely matters, as they're pushing simultaneous PC releases hard for the Xbox games this time around.

The stuff I'm interested in (like Avowed, off the top of my head, which is Obsidian's Skyrim) is going to be on PC, so I've no reason to care about the consoles.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

With the last release of consoles, I said I would buy in with the release of Elder Scrolls VI, and that hasn't happened! I expect VI will come out in the lifetime of both machines, but whether I buy one is up for debate.

Nevertheless, going to say neither, as I built my own PC so I don't have to buy a next gen console when they come out.

None, I refuse to hand over the amount of coin they demand for the bricks they are releasing. Besides my pc delivers far better graphics and sound

Probably none, as others, I have a half decent PC.

Whenever I get tempted by a console, I just end up upgrading the PC again. There's a few exclusive titles I'd love to try some day, but not enough to shell out several hundreds of dollars to actually buy a console.

PS5 all the way. I stopped played on a PC more than 10 years ago and can't imagine going back to having to sit hunched in front of a tiny screen while playing, using a typewriter as a controller and having to perform 10 obscure extra actions apart from installing the game to have 75% chance that it runs

TBH the change was mostly beacuse a console controller is much better for my wrists than keyboard/mouse. Having more strategy games would be nice, though.

I'm in the same boat, I love PC gaming but at the same time I can't sit in front of a PC very long, sofa gaming is just way more comfortable for me and my wrists & back.

I have a PS4 Pro and XBone. Since most of the PS5 exclusives (at least, those I want to play like Spiderman) are also coming out on PS4 Pro as well, I'm leaning towards getting Xbox Series X, if I do decide to upgrade yet again. Plus, MS are doing a nifty little payment plan which helps rather than having to buy it upfront.

PS5 for me, I've had the Sony consoles since the PS2, and they've consistenly had good first party exclusives that cover a wide range of genres (Persona series for JRPG, Spider Man/Infamous for Super hero-fare, Last of Us/Uncharted for 3rd person shooter/survival, Horizon Zero Dawn/Ghost of Tsushima for open world). Since the PS5 is also backwards compatible for PS4 titles (FINALLY), it's a natural transition and Xbox seems more focused on people buying their gamepass than actually producing quality 1st party titles so I'm sticking with Playstation this gen. Doesn't help I'm not a big fan of current Halo or Gears of War. Even with the Bethesda purchase, they're going to port any console exclusive title to PC anyways, so I won't be missing out.

Xbox. Spider-man on the PS is tempting, but I'd miss Forza Horizon more.

I know we'll be doing Series X first then eventually PS5. Not really in any rush and most of our friends are on Live already so Xbox goes first.

Series x for me. Had each model of the Xbox so far plus each PlayStation. In the end the PS4 hardly got any use. As a Family we lean towards the Xbox too.

Looking forward to the 10th next month when my package of Xbox goodness arrives. Shame halo slipped back but ah well.

Well Xbox came out today, and instantly sold out everywhere. I just tried to score one at Walmat, they said 3 left when I went to check out, and by the time I was done they were gone. Going for over $1000 from Amazon scalpers. Oh well, guess I'll get it in a couple months.. I expect PS5 will be the same way for a while too

I'm going to hold off. I am wondering if there will be a mid-gen update in the same vein as Xbox One Series X

Yeah I get the idea xbox is gonna be releasing an updated console every 2 years or so. Kinda what they've been doing lately. PS will probably do the same. I'd like to be able to get system with the Series X power, but no blu ray drive since that's useless to me. I like how PS has that option, but the xbox series S is stripped down.

That's a strange reason. Today anything you can play using a console controller you can play on PC with a controller. I just finished Horizon Zero Dawn from my sofa playing on my living room PC.

There's reasons to have a console over a PC, but this doesn't seem to be a rational one.

I am going with the Xbox series X. It already works with my existing game pass subscription.

My friends all have Xboxes.

I don't really have much of a consideration one way or another, I just like playing games with friends, so for me, it's whatever they are buying, and right now that looks like the series x.

None until the price of new games goes back down, if ever. They are asking for eye watering amounts for PS5 launch titles. Even the cross generation games are arbitrarily £20 more on a new system because reasons.

Nobody ever says this about Nintendo. If Sony want to invest hundreds of millions into top quality game development to sell their console, more power to them. That's the right way to go about it

It's a very good point - and one that I have in fact mulled over myself a few times. In the end, I give Nintendo a pass for one reason - they take more risks in other areas that necessitate having killer first-party games to be successful. For example, the Wii motion controls - which it's fair to say, "standard" games at the time really didn't translate well to.
That said, while I do have a Wii, I got one specifically because of the motion controls seeming fun (which they can be!) - I wouldn't get a Nintendo console just for the sake of playing Mario, Legend of Zelda or whatever else.

...it's also worth pointing out that all of Nintendo's first-party properties are theirs, and always have been - so they have more cause than most to hold them close. Sony have no such claim, they've actively sought out properties and made deals in order to keep them locked away to themselves...

Yeah it's really not a strange reason. I'm not gonna use a mouse and keyboard on my couch every time I want to use my computer for anything other than videogames, that is awkward as hell. And if anyone else wants to use the TV now I can't use the PC. No thanks.

don't bother with a new console until it's a year old, the early models of a console tend to be big clunky and have some ahrdware quirks. I tend to wait and buy the "MK 2s" a year or so later.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Yeah Gamepass has gotten really good lately. And with MS acquiring Bethesda I assume a lot of their games on gonna end up being included. They just added all of the EA Play games to the lineup now. Just started Jedi fallen order And the new Final Fantasy 7 update was just added too, i'll be checking that one out next.

I completely understand the awkwardness of using mouse and keyboard on a TV... of course there are options like Steam Big Picture, but by the time you've set all that up, it's a lot more work than just getting a console.
But... surely if someone else wants to use the TV, you're out of luck with a console too...?
