Why is there a big fuss made over Primaris Lieutenants? Even GW keeps banging on about them as if they were the Space Marine equivalent to Real Madrid players.

Don't get me wrong; I got one in the Recruit starter set and admittedly he does look rather swanky, but he just seems to be the budget HQ choice for Marine players...what am I missing here?

Cheers.

You have a UK flag next to your name. Surely you get sarcasm and satire, right?

"Nu GW" is like this self aware thing that likes to make memes out of its own... blunders. GW have released more Primaris Lieutenants than entire armies have entries in their books and have been rightly criticised and mocked for it by the fanbase.

GW make a self aware meme out of it (see the Abaddon model reveal video) and here we are. Same goes for the "Open another chamber!" thing with Stormcast from AOS, though that one has died down a bit, but it has its same origins as the Primaris Lieutenants.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I see! Said the blind man...

To be fair, I returned to the hobby only two-three-ish years ago, so it seems I missed that situation as it unfolded.

Well, its good to see that GW can take the mickey out of themselves...

...so, I take it the new Xenos codex in January will be Codex: Primaris Lieutenants then?

Definitely going to go with #7: Twitter Lieutenant.

Aye this. They did a training exercise where a whole bunch of sculptors did a Lieutenant to get a feel for sculpting Primaris, the decided they liked them all and gradually released them over time. There were many needless salty nerd tears and a meme was born.

If I recall his actual answer was "Like [censored] I can't!" If I'd seen it out of context I would have taken it for a bit from If the Emperor Had a Text-to-Speech Device.

Isn't there a pretty comparable number of Primaris captains too by now? That's not even including chapter specific captains like Adrax Agatone.

Ironically this is both true, and they're missing Lieutenants. They need a Gravis Lieutenant. A Terminator Lieutenant. Possibly more. A bike Lieutenant for White Scars and Ravenwing Successors.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Yeah - and then he hit the big red "Primaris" button

Salty as I've been about marine releases, even I got a pretty good laugh out of that!

I'd say a focus on Primaris Lieutenants is also a bid by GW to influence the American market and educate them on proper pronunciation of English

Context
Spoiler:
This came out at the very start of the year. So when Sisters of Battle were mostly just out; Pointy Aelves (Lumineth) were teased and previewed; Sons was a "myth/rumour/hint".

Because game companies now hire Psychologists to help them figure out how to market more efficiently, and this stuff actually works.
