With the new edition having just come out is GW going to make a Chapter Approved 2020? If they are does anyone think that there will be any changes in the point value of models? IIRC GW was basing the point changes off of data that they gathered at/from various events and since there haven't been many events I can't see them making changes. Has anyone seen any info one way or the other regarding this year's Chapter Approved?

I expect CA for 40K will be moved to mid-year just like the AOS General's Handbook. With the mid-year release for 9th Edition, there was no time to gather information, but I doubt they want to wait until December 2021 before putting out a new book. So instead, they use the 2020 data in early 2021 to writeup and publish in the summer.

GW are greedy, of course they'll release CA2020 Mk2 only a few weeks after releasing CA2020. It's not an accident they removed the year from CA2020's cover, makes it easier for people to forget they just had to buy a new points errata.

I hope that CA goes back to being something with some actual content.
At this stage we need a get-you-buy Crusade section for every army that doesn't have a 9th Ed Codex, in the same way that they did a Relic/Warlord Trait/x2 Strats for all the 8th Ed armies that didn't have books at the time (Wolves, Orks, Sisters, etc.).

CA 2020 already happened, shortly after the edition launch.

Whether they shift the date for CA2021 or not is up to them.

Unfortunately, the picture you linked to is not to Chapter Approved 2020. They are titled Chapter Approved Munitorium Field Manual and Chapter Approved Grand Tournament 2020. Good try though.

I expect Chapter Approved to go back to a December release in 2021 to keep it and the Generals' Handbook from hurting each other's sales.

It's a Chapter Approved, released in 2020. The previous Chapter Approved was titled Chapter Approved 2019 and released in 2019. They split the books (and omitted the year) for greed purposes.

They split the 2019 edition as well (with no price increase, IIRC). That way you could bin the Munitorum Field Manual when it was out of date and keep the smaller booklet with the rules updates, etc.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with BaconCatBug, but yeah, that is chapter approved 2020. Arguments to the contrary are unnecessarily pedantic. Good try though.

I’ll also add the theory that 9th edition was released a few months early. If the accelerated pace of the PA books hadn’t happened, 9th would have probably dropped closer to September/October than July, which would would make Chapter Approved line up closer to it’s normal release window and the Indomitus box a holiday release (which also explains some of the initial shortfalls of that box and the timing of the “made to order” versions).

When was the last time GW released a new edition that wasn't in the middle of the summer?

I agree with the idea of synchronizing the CA books with the GH for AoS. if I had to hazard a guess, that would be mine as well. It could stand as a possibility that GW might release them at the end of February once this whole covid thing goes away (assuming vaccine, medical advancements, etc etc). That way they can release it for an entire year, wrap up the LVO with the old CA and have the new one out in time for Adepticon. Of course, this obviously looks at the release schedule from a very American perspective, but given their recent attempts to drive the game more towards an organized play perspective, it might make sense.

No. If anything, it came later than originally intended due to lockdown.
GW always release their editions at in early summer holidays.
We've already had CA2020.

Yeah. The pace of PA was not accelerated. It was delayed by COVID shutdowns and then accelerated to get back on schedule.

That would be really terrible for the rules (and editing) teams. And publishing schedule.
And thus the resulting books.
You don't pile all of your annual workload into the same narrow window. They were at opposite ends of the year for workflow reasons, and nothing about that has changed.

no, the were of opposite ends of the year because GHB was released alongside 2nd Edition of AoS tor provide an update for all factions before that it had the December slot
and stayed in summer because of the yearly cycle
now, CA was provided alongside the new Edition to update the rules, so if they keep the yearly cycle we se CA21 in Summer next year, if they keep the slot than in Winter 2021
and both are worked by independent teams that have nothing to do with each other
