Its....ok?

3.4 rotogens, not great, not terrible.

I played a little with it but honestly I prefer battlescibe. That might be just because battlescibe is a finished product and this is a beta. But BS just feels nicer to use.

Certainly, its not worth paying 12 times as much for

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

It's mobile-only, therefore inferior to Battlescribe by design in my view.

It does the job...kinda. There were (and may still be) a bunch of data errors as well as what I assume were a load of issues they wanted the beta test to find. My main problem is it's not enough of an upgrade over Battlescribe to justify paying any amount of money for, never mind what GW is asking.

Many of the problems are also not things I expect to see in a public beta, which should be very close to being fit for release.

Yeah, I was surprised to see issues in the lists they posted on Warhammer Community (lists that were apparently made with the Battleforge beta). Reece's list in particular had some weird issues. I haven't tried it yet, but if the lists you're actually publishing to your website aren't even clean, I'm not touching it w/a 10' pole. If I have to cross-verify every little thing with my paper codex, what's the point?

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

What sort of weird issues? I can't see anything at first glance that jumps out at me.

Last I saw it didn’t refund you for your Warlord being in your detachment. Auxiliary super heavy says it was charging me 6 cp for a Monolith, but I don’t think it actually was.

They may have since corrected the article, and I don't remember all of them, but I believe it double tapped Reece's plasma sponsons, and screwed up some wargear, but somehow all still added up to 2000. lol

Auspex Tactics has a good video on it where he discusses the lists, and points out where the app made errors.

I use it as my army builder now. But, I also like the references in the app too. I'm fine with issues at launch, as it'll only improve and I like the UI and output much more than Battlescribe.

But, folks can use whichever app they want. Until now, I've been using Army Builder from Lone Wolf (still), and editing the data myself.

In common with others, my issue with the app is that offers me nothing that I need that Battlescribe doesn't already provide. I simply refuse to pay a monthly subscription for a list builder.

GW, unfortunately, see the app as a source of revenue rather than an incentive to play their game and buy their models.

GW is lying about it being free. Its not. You do get one free month, but after that you must pay the subsciption fee to use it. The free version of the app doesnt give you access to battleforge beta. I am not going to support this.

You can try it for free the same way you try any streaming service for free. Provide your credit card info, get a free month, and cancel before your time is up. Really tired of the complaints of the one thing GW is doing that exactly like every monthly internet subscription in the world. Let it go.

That out of the way, I really like the interface, but there's some serious list building errors and straight up missing options in one of my main armies (deathwatch). At least there were a couple weeks ago. Haven't checked recently.

I already cancelled so mine will run out in a couple weeks. I really doubt it will be ready by then considering how slowly GW is fixing things.

You can try it if you like and maybe it will work fine for your army and you'll like it. It's got real potential and they actually seem serious about making it good (eventually, someday. Maybe sometime during the dark age of technology it will be ready?)

I will offer a counter to this: The app absolutely does provide me with something that battlescribe does not: a great quick reference for my army's rules on my phone.

As good as Battlescribe is (I still use it), it's terrible as a quick reference for rules like warlord traits or relics, etc. And that isn't even something you need to pay the subscription for once you get a 9th ed codex. I do realize it's not good for those that don't have a codex yet because you have to pay the monthly fee to get the old 8th + PA stuff.

They're really screwing up the rollout of this app pretty badly.

I've tested it and I like it better than battlescribe, assuming they fix what's obviously buggy and add a few missing features like unit duplication. However there are three big issues and I only see one getting fixed:

No Legends support - they can fix this easily
No PC support - I don't see them fixing this
Pricing - having to buy the books AND the subscription makes it way too expensive. The sub should include all data, and entering a code should allow you to use BF for that faction, so you get to choose which model you wanna use.

They might even fix the pricing, but I don't see them offering PC support anytime soon, if ever, so I cancelled my sub already.

In what way are they lying though? It's clear enough that it's just a single free month.

They definitely lie in their ads when they say if you buy a codex and enter the code you unlock all the rules from the codex in the app.

Wow, I didn't even realize that until now because I assumed it would work on PC by default, that's where I'd mostly use it. Makes it even more useless then. For the price I'd at least expect it to sync between a mobile and a PC Version. If it doesn't even have a PC Version... well I'll wait a year, look if they clean up this mess and lower the price to 1€\month and then I might consider it

That's got nothing to do with "GW is lying about it being free" though. "Whatabout..."?

And you do unlock the rules from the book, you just don't unlock BF for that book, too - see my previous post where I said exactly that is a problem...

You unlock Some of the rule from the codex, not All of the rules like their ads claim.

Say goodbye to pencils and paper – the way you make your Warhammer 40,000 army lists is getting a huge upgrade! Battle Forge has been unleashed in Warhammer 40,000: The App, and you can try it right now for free. And if you’re already subscribed, you’re going to get a free month as well.

I cant try it for free. I am not subscribed.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/12/16/win-your-dream-army-with-warhammer-40000-the-app/

Want to win the army of your dreams? Well, we’re giving you the opportunity to do just that. To be in with a chance, all you have to do is use the new – and currently FREE – Battle Forge roster builder in Warhammer 40,000: The App.

Again, its not "currently FREE". I cant use the battle forge roster builder in the 40k app. I am not subscribed. And how is it "currently FREE" when i already have used up my month free subscription ??

How did you use up your free month when it hasn’t been a month since those were posted?

Ah, I get it - OK. Yes, if you've already used up the free month, you can't use it anymore. But as I said - it's really obvious that it's just 1 month free. Ripping words out of context doesn't make it a lie. Since it's clear about that I wouldn't even call it misleading. And how /when did you use up that free month? I thought that offer wasn't that old so how did that work?
*edit* OK, so I just got my phone to double-check - I activated by subscription with the free month offer pretty much right away, and cancelled my sub after like 3-4 days of testing. I can still access Battleforge - for free.
Triple-checking on their website says they launched Battleforge on December 09.

It's exactly like eg Netflix offering a free month to test out the service only to new customers. You don't get permanent free Netflix from it because once sentence in the ad says "try it for free".
