Fairly widely being reported that Whitaker is done after the next series

Well, three years is the average for an actor in the role, so no need to read anything into it (although some.... special members of the internet will).

BBC haven’t yet commented, so I guess it’s possibly true?

I do wish such things wouldn’t be revealed. Just once I’d like a genuine surprise regeneration.

I'd like Jodie to stick around a bit more.

Any replacement is likely to be here for the 60th anniversary (these things come round so soon, it seems) so they'll need to be prepared to go up against Jodie, David, Matt, Peter and maybe even Chris, now, for screen presence.

Whoever plays the Doctor, the series writing is what people appear to have problems with at present. The preachiness has little to do with which Dr is in.
The digs at certain known figures and businesses are quite fun though.

This not-Xmas ep finished before I expected. It was less epic than normal for an end-of-year ep, and it seemed as though 2020 got to it.

I do still like dr. who, mostly for nostaligia, and the unapologetic socialist messages and themes to it, but i almost think it would be funny if the bbc announced it had to cancel the show because it could not find a good actor willing to play the role due to the fan base's toxicity after the way jodie whitaker was treated.

"Every actor we approached turned us down flat." A BBC exec under anonymity said."None of the actors we wanted to hire was willng to face the inevitable fan hostility they were certain to endure. Some actors were wiulling to play the role but were generally of low quality and we decided to end the show rather than go with a poor actor who would embarrass the show's long and wonderful legacy."

RIP, Doctor. You survived daleks, cybermen, sontarans and the master but could not survive toxic fandom. You will be missed.

On a more serious note, I'd kind of like to see maybe a season of the doctor stuck on earth, like John Pertwee's was for a time and having to earn money and live in human culture for a while without the tardis and having to pay rent and such.

That could be an interesting change of pace season. Maybe the doctor is stuck in a city in england and maybe deals with more mundane situations, like drug addiction cases, violent racist hate mongers, etc. I know they won't do it but hey i can dream.

To be honest, Who fandom has always been like this. They even spoofed it in Greatest Show In The Galaxy.

Yeah, certain Whovians rival trekkies and SW fans for toxicity and have done so for years.

I like the idea of an Earth-bound Doctor for a bit. As a kid, I really enjoyed when Pertwee was stuck with UNIT for a bit.

So has it been made official that jodie's leaving or not? I think it might be a rumor started by the 'NOWIMMINDOCTOR!" CROWD.

No - the BBC have refused to comment so far.

It might have come from her agent, who supposedly thinks Who is a sinking ship, and wants Jodie to move on ASAP for the sake of her career.

Which given that the next season is going to be a short one (8 episodes), I don't entirely blame the agent for that.

Yep. The story now seems to be that the BBC refuses to deny that she's leaving.

I'll be honest, I haven't watched Dr Who since Matt Smith joined. I found the plots too ridiculous with loopholes and inane plot devices including the "I'm so quirky I wear a fez and eat custard" humour. Nevertheless I thought I'd give it a go as this looked a bit more grimdark, similar to the Ecclestone episodes which remain my favourite.

Overall that was a load of crap. The plot felt too disjointed, and the final scenes were just boring, and seemed to reek of "we'll just wrap up the conflict with some totally unforeseen sciencey words". The script was just...awful; the Doctor goes on this heartfelt monologue about her internal conflicts and worries, and the guy just follows up with "how did that make you feel?".

I don't particularly mind Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, she seems pretty good for the role. It just seems that since Matt Smith the plots are getting worse and worse (although I can't speak for the Capaldi episodes).

Capaldi himself was great, his episode plots... less so.

Just found out that the source of this is The Daily Mirror so I'm filing this in the '75% bollocks' draw.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A funny idea might be the dalek factory gets seized and used to prodoce robotic dalkes armed with thew advanced stuff and a while later an alien race tries to invade earth.

The tronleks are sent to meet them and the aliens are like "What are those?"

"Uh, they appear to be...an advanced type of dalek, commander!"

"What?! We're attacking a world at the same time daleks are?!"

"Uh, commander, the daleks..appear to be defending this world and the humans."

"THE HUMANS HAVE DALEKS PROTECTING THEM FROM US??!! RETREAT! RETREAT!! ANYONE WHO CAN DOMESTICATE DALEKS IS TOO TERRIFYING TO EVEN GET NEAR!"
