Surely that would still fall under the generic "Middle-earth" banner, and could be shown as the new logo they've made ever since integrating the Hobbit and LotR fully as one system (they were never truly separate of course, but the books featured the logo of one or the other, and with the latest edition those have been combined). Besides, I'd agree it's far too early show anything for that theoretical collaboration, apart from potentially an announcement that they will be working with that material.
No way the Easterlings are related to the Amazon show, precisely because they are due to be released soon. Easterlings have little to do with the little we know of the Amazon show, they're just for a new standard supplement, likely focussed on Dale and the Lonely Mountain at the end of the War of the Ring.
His Master's Voice wrote:
Honestly, not sure if GW would even want the licence or be willing to do anything with it. Between LotR and Hobbit, the show is more likely to emulate the later.
How so?
GaroRobe wrote:TNow, does GW have the rights to the Amazon show? I know they (Amazon) have been working on the show for a while, but I assume it's still a long ways off and they probably wouldn't be able to do any promotional stuff from the show until it's close to being out. They wouldn't want spoilers to come out this early, before trailers, promotional pics, etc (although Lego has spoiled movies months before they're released, so I could be wrong.)
How soon was the Hobbit stuff revealed when the movies were announced/released? I remember they released "Bolg" before he got his redesign in the final movie, so they're clearly allowed access to WETA (and the cast was shown with their barrel models, since one of the dwarves was a GW fan)
Of course, the Hobbit trilogy was an absolute mess anyway, what with the late decision to make it into 3 films rather than 2 (some products that were supposed to be relevant to the first film ended up only being shown in the second film), characters changing designs (Azog, Bolg and the Keeper of the Dungeons; Thranduil released as a model riding a horse rather than the stag), etcetera... Difficult to say how that corresponds to normal schedules, agreements and production timelines!

Also Smaug having four legs in the first film, but looking like a wyvern later on.
I was thinking it would be AOS/40k related for the mystery slot, but the lack of LOTR on the previews, coupled with the teased Easterlings, could mean that the last slot is something Tolkein esqe

It won't be Middle-Earth. There is no way GW is going to have two seperate licences for two different games in the setting. Too much repetition when they have access to most of the material anyway.
This will either be a more detailed look at the old world, or more likely, a new warhammer quest. Probably an AoS version now that Blackstone is done.

Nobody's saying two separate licenses.
When they announced they got the license to The Hobbit? They made a Big Deal about it.

There’s also the sheer cost/benefit.
Amazon’s series is set in an era unexplored to the general public. The show itself is an entirely unknown quantity.
The films were kinda the opposite. A beloved trilogy finally coming to the big screen, amidst a massive marketing push. Knowing the book, the action scenes were easy to predict - and plan for.
The series? Who knows how much fisticuffs might ensue? Being limited to a streaming platform, will it have the same reach as the movies? Will it have the same appeal?
Given they’ve already got the license and an existing range, do they really need another? Or will they just ride the renewed interest and call it profit?

There's relatively little original Tolkien writing concerning 2nd age. Mostly historical outlines and story sketches. I know what happens when Hollywood screenwriters try to write Tolkien.
In general, I find it unlikely for the series to trigger a surge of interest in the IP that would warrant a major investment from GW. Then again, new GW is less risk averse, so maybe they don't mind going big on Middle Earth for the third time.

Question mark could be a new Horus Heresy standalone board game (akin to Calth/Prospero)?
Perhaps based on the Siege of Terra? It seems crazy that so much effort is going into that series of books to finish it all up, with no game support.

Unless Amazon is under the same umbrella as Newline (or whoever it is now) then it would have to be two seperate licences. And two seperate games, as i can't imagine the headache it would be too integrate the movie and series licences. And that's assuming Amazon would allow for their series to be integrated into the same game rather than wanting something seperate with their name on it. Don't get me wrong Kan, i would love more Middle-Earth, but i just don't see it happening.

New Line is listed as a production entity on the series wiki, so it's possible Amazon is simply fronting the money and New Line remains the IP licence holder. That would simplify the licencing somewhat.

It could in theory, but personally I hope not. Not on the anti-marine train, but it would be another 'yet more marines' project that seems unnecessary. Especially seeing how we've _still_ got a pile of marine kits from four months ago (and counting) in the release queue.
It would also be a boxed set of not-primaris marines, and I honestly don't see that happening, and it would raise questions about 'what's happening with the HH game in general?' that GW seems reluctant to answer.

Because they've gone back to 1/month, for some reason, we already know the Feb/March ones are Dark Angels & Dark Eldar, though I can't remember which way round. Revealing the April one (or ones, if they're feeling optimistic) wouldn't be a bad shout, though I'm doubtful they'd go as far as May.
DA would presumably confirm the remaining releases from the SM 'dex - such as the new speeder - though I'm curious as to whether they confirm any new releases for DE aside from Lilith.
Scheduled release of Death Guard in December and Dark Angles plus Drukari in January was delayed by production and distribution issues. Thus we have the new fortnightly release schedule that pushed Death Guard to January and presumedly all the January releases during the next 6 weeks (1/30, 2/13, and 2/27). I assume we will learn if they are able to get back to weekly release in March or need to keep stringing things out in early February.
So it might be a bit early to announce the next three month of codex releases, or they could if they include the updated schedule for February along with March and April schedules.

If it was warhammer quest, why would it be hidden? It's not a new game. As to it being age of sigmar mordheim, they already have their chaos skirmish game. They aren't going to compete with themselves.
My money is on one of:
-Something to tie the heresy into the siege of terra (would explain why heresy has been flatlined for a while)
-Lord of the rings
-Maybe warhammer the old world, but that seems unlikely given what they've said before

The main reason the HH is flatlining is because one of the biggest driving forces sadly passed away a few years back. Adam Bligh was a huge and influential part of the FW HH team and without him, it's lost a lot of steam :/

I'm sure that has had an affect on things, but we are now coming up on 4 years since Alan passed away. They've released two black books since then and hired new staff. I'm not holding my breath for the heresy to be revived, but it's fun conjecture.

Anuj left FW at the end of 2020 so the HH rules team is currently a single person - Neil Wylie. The best outcome now might be for it to officially become a "Specialist Game" and have that team take over development.

Ah, in that sense. It's difficult to gauge how big a deal it will be, but given the money Amazon poured into it, I guess they'll certainly try to make it a big thing, and I imagine the opening episodes will draw some viewers (a few of whom might even pay for the privilege), but whether it will have the cultural impact of the LotR trilogy and Game of Thrones (the latter of which soured towards the end of course)? Amazon hasn't pulled off many large successes with their own original shows so far, though I'm not sure how much that says given the different scope of the new Middle-earth show, which has some legwork done for it by rekindling existing magic using a known setting and atmosphere (which the Hobbit didn't fully manage to wipe out I think - some people even liked it, while few others hated it enough to not watch a new Middle-earth thing - see also Star Wars I-III, VII-IX and the Mandalorian etcetera).
Anyway, I would still expect GW to go in on the license if it's feasible, simply to ride the wave of increased interest in their existing stuff and to prevent another company from possibly getting a competing Middle-earth license.

Warhammer Quest would be hidden because it's a new logo, which would reveal something about the new setting (like Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress). If it was just more news on Warhammer: the Old World, surely they'd simply have put that logo there. As you say yourself, it wouldn't be hidden because (in that sense) it's not a new game. Unless they're all snickering away at the moment seeing us try and work out what it is, while it's really just Necromunda or whatever. Some previously unknown new system is by far the most logical option.

A Warhammer quest pitting Witch Hunter and Company against the Undead makes a ton of sense with all the rumor engine images (and the long term rumor of such a product)
The fact they've commited to returning to the Old World even opens up the possibility of it being set there.

I don't agree. They've been really open about the fact that any 'Old World' stuff is a long way off (2023+). Something that can crossover/promote AoS sales now is much more sensible rather than risking a new product on whatever theoretical enthusiasm might exist for a project still in its early stages.
Warhammer Quest <Fangs & Stakes> edition works with elements that are already in AoS, but haven't gotten decent treatment yet.

I think, personally, that the Soulblight and Vampire Hunter-esque teasers are going to be Broken Realms related rather than boardgame.
Cities of Sigmar featured some pretty dynamic shifts in the first book(Anvilgard splitting into Har Kuron and introducing Misthavn) along with a new Hero/revised Hero for the Daughters of Khaine. We had Lethis introduced in Forbidden Power as a City in Shyish--having Vampire Hunters and Soulblight/Necromancer stuff introduced as part of that (like how we're seeing Hedonites get an expanded range after fluff from the Morathi book) would not be out of the question.

Something in the wind? Could it mean a new AoS faction based on flatulence?
A game nodding towards The Old World - even if its AoS characters visiting an ancient site - would be cool. And yes, Man-O-War would be most welcome as a fantasy alternative to Titanicus and Aeronautica.
Looking forward most to Kill Team, if only for a new book to provide rules for the new Indomitus stuff. Its also high time to see the inclusion of the Ynnari.
For 40K, hoping for Ynnari or Harlequin codices. No idea what they will reveal on the day.
Wasn't expecting much but this preview sounds promising for a change. Bring it on.
