I'm kind of amazed there hasn't been a thread for this given how insanely popular the series was back in the day. I last went through the whole trilogy 6 years ago and I'm honestly dying to get through it again. Gonna play as fem Shep this time and take the opportunity to romance the hell out of Garrus because he's, like... totally awesome. Maybe I should do a fan made film... Specters with Benefits.

Truthfully, I'm unclear what they're going to do with it.

If it isn't major gameplay improvements (ie, not still empty hours and hours of running down corridors for basic fedex missions and pointlessly scanning empty planets for junk and trinkets), I'm not sure of the point.

They mention UI and graphics improvements, but most of my memories of ME1 are dreadfully clunky controls. They need to actually demonstrate that its really, significantly better before they grab my interest.

They modernized the UI for mass effect 1, overall it looks like the first game is getting the largest improvement. Which is a good thing since that one felt the most dated of the three.

I'm pretty excited about this remaster, they kept the visual style intact but improved it's fidelity. Shame it isn't out until may but it is what it is.

Do note that they're changing the controls for the Mako!

Not at all, I'm totally with you!

Mass Effect II is a great game, but a lot of the changes from RPG towards a more action style game were not improvements from my point of view.
The first game had brilliant mission structure, take Noveria for example;
Noveria goes RP section -> Mako section -> Combat Section -> RP section -> Boss section -> Finish with a major moral decision.

Wow am glad to see this is finally happening, have been waiting for it for a while.

I know some of the controls are a bit clunky but really just the whole world building thing and good level of storytelling, I would probably put the 2nd game in my top 10 of all time.

While I understand annoyance with the Mako I never really had a problem with the actual controls of it like so many seem to do. I was always more annoyed about the huge maps I had to wander around to find all the resources and side quests. That was the annoying part of the Mako for me.

As for things they are leaving out like Pinnacle Station...thank god. I played that once for the achievement and never went back in other playthroughs.

I absolutely adore ME and tend to do a full play through every couple of years, so this is right up my street. I'll probably wait for it to go on sale on Steam, though.

I played it all on the 360 and I have zero intention on getting a new console just for one game, so it's PC time; I presume that I mouse and keyboard it, the way that the gods intended and don't do anything silly like hooking up a controller. Playing ME with without one seems weird, but this is a PC we're taking about!

It sucks they aren't giving it proper ps5 support though. With dualsense haptics functionality and all. I think these games would have felt great with that stuff working. Next gen is currently well underway and developers simply can't be bothered.

Also they apparently removed all the miranda cutscene booty shots, makes me wonder what else they might change to appeal to modern pc culture.

I'm kinda curious if they're going to do the same thing with Dragon Age.

Though I'm not sure I'd want to see the darkspawn 'mother' storyline in HD.

It was glistening enough from what I remember the last time I played that game, an HD broodmother would mean I'd have to try playing with my eyes closed!

I'm reasonably excited for the new mass effect remastered, but I'm not so keen on the price tag.. it's a hell of a lot for a remaster even if they have mucked about with the UI and managed to make the Mako less like an overburdened shopping trolley to drive.

$60 for three full games and pretty much all dlc isn't really a high price tag.

Even though they're older games, I can't see balking at the normal cost for a single game. Well, beyond the basic question of whether a 'remaster' is ever worth it.

At first I thought $60 was reasonable and a price I would pay.
Then I realised I actually already own all the games and tbh never had a huge problem with the graphics.
So I'd basically be paying $60 for a tuned up ME1 UI, so I've decided I'll be waiting for a sale now.
And of course I've already played it a bunch, so the replay ability is limited on the basis that I've already used it all.

Yea that does seem like a lot of money for games I already own! I'll pick it up if it's £10 or so on Steam.

I was interested until I remembered the experience of ME2 (sidequests the game) and the ending of ME3 (too much salt) and then I realized I lost all care for this franchise a long time ago. It was a ride while it lasted. An updated ME1 still sounds kind of neat, but not at $60.

Huh. Sidequests are always the point of Bioware games to me. Its the main story that tends to be a bit naff (even if its just the ending), going all the way back to Baldurs Gate 1 (but especially 2).
Its where the meat of the games are, though Inquisition and Andromeda took it too far with the huge empty voids that you have to criss-cross repeatedly and contribute nothing from each trip beyond a brief brawl and collectible.
ME2 and DA2 were Bioware at their best, despite the repetitive and reused mini-dungeons.

I am interested, but also wary as I got the masterchief collection for halo on the same basis and I have never replayed it.

I'm in. Haven't replayed the series in years. And this will get them into my Steam library, for extra convenience. I like that they're adding the ME3 FemShep model into ME1 and ME2.
As far as the loss of Pinnacle Station goes, while unfortunate in principle, I really don't care about that particular DLC. I slogged through it on my first playthrough, and skipped it on my second.
Regarding the multiplayer, it was a fun diversion, but not something I'll miss. I've never really enjoyed playing multiplayer battel arena type games for more than a hour at a time, as I just don't have the patience for that repetitive gameplay loop.

It's still made by modern Bioware, I'll wait and see. It doesn't have ME3 multiplayer sadly, which was easily the best part of that game.

That's a part of it for me. I played the multiplayer for years on and off and really enjoyed it. It was simple but solid in its fun and variety and frankly it was the only way to play an alien in Mass Effect (one of many things that I found very disappointing with Andromeda pre-release).

The original Mass Effect trilogy is probably my favorite game series and I'm having a hard time justifying buying it a third time (I have all three and the DLCs on both PC and xbox). If it had been a Resident Evil style remake with full updating to modern standards (including ray tracing and an OPTIONAL coherent gameplay style across the trilogy) and had included the ME3 multiplayer out of the gate then it would have been a must buy for me. From the trailers, I can't see much of a tangible benefit to using it compared with a modded PC copy with high res textures and other mod upgrades you can get for free. It's not even being upgraded to the latest Unreal Engine and is instead using the one available back in 2007.

I pre-ordered it. I had never played any of the Mass Effect games when they came out for some reason, so see this as the perfect time to jump into the original trilogy of games.

While this is nice what we really need is a Jade Empire update. Great Bioware title very few got to experience.

That's currently on Origin- it was free for quite a while. I wouldn't buy it for $15 for it now, but it comes with their monthly access pass. (Oddly Steam has it for $3 at the moment, because of the EA publisher sale that... EA isn't... doing on their own platform? I do _not_ understand why EA came back to Steam and why its so much better to buy EA specific things on Steam most of the time. Are they going to axe Origin at some point? Because failing to compete with Steam with their own products hurts my brain.)

Anyway, its a very proto-typical Bioware game. Big Bad, companions, plot weirdness. The fighting game-esque martials arts is weird for Bioware, and gets repetitive after a while.
