It looked like some of the Kenner toys have snuck in. Pretty sure I saw a Rhino Alien in there!

At 1:40-ish you can see the raptor leg influence in this clip from Alien Resurrection...

Alien Isolation was an anomaly in this franchise in that it was actually fantastic and thoughtfully done. But the vast majority of attempts at video games involving this IP have been pretty bad. So no pre order for me, absolutely not.

Alien Isolation learned all the right lessons from Dead Space one about building up atmosphere. Ironically, also from the only level of ACM that was sort of good; the one where you're sneaking around the sewers with no gun.

Sad day when the best part of an FPS game is the part where you have no gun XD

Wow, didn't even know this was in the works. Looks pretty great, I do love co-op horde games. I wonder if they'll do some sorta multiplayer with marines v aliens or whether it's just PVE only.

Haha yes that was my thought too..

Aliens Isolation has made me dare to hope, which could be dangerous!

If it's done well as a multiplayer online it could be good. Some of those scenes in the video look downright terrifying I'll be honest!

I assume it will be players vs game, with no people controlling the aliens?

A lot of "left4dead-alikes" are finding success these days it seems. Vermintide, Space Hulk, the new 40k one where it's imperial dudes vs chaos cult...

it's a fun formula, I'm not surprised after valve kind of left a vacuum in the game design space others have picked up where they left off.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Got it wishlisted for the potential, but as always: no pre-order.

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

The Alien series has had many good games over the years...

Alien( ZX Spectrum, C64 )
ALIENS( Speccy & C64, first-person editions )
Alien3( Megadrive and other formats )
Alien Trilogy( Playstation and other formats )
AVP( PC )
AVP( Jaguar )

...all of those being well recieved and having played them myself can confirm that they were indeed good games, although all were quite hard. I would also add that the Konami arcade game was quite good fun too, if a bit silly.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Agreed - some really good games with the license. Other good ones are the Nintendo DS game (I forget the name - it's a side-on platform/shoot-em-up, but excellent) and there was the adventure game years ago on the PC as well (again, I forget the name!)

I don't know what it was with Colonial Marines but it seems to have done so much to damage people's trust in the license. Was it just because people had such high hopes from the trailer, having a genuine Aliens experience, only to have it cruelly taken away when they played the game?

I think with Colonial Marines it's because the licensing ended up just being such a dang mess when the whole story started spilling out.

Gearbox, effectively, made Borderlands 3 using the money that kept being put in for 'tweaking' Colonial Marines...and nobody who should have caught on to that seemed to.

Yeah. Gearbox seems to have written off the project long before it came out and for some reason never told any of its stake holders until after the release became a finger pointing contest of who to blame for the massive screw up that was the game.

Kind of amazing how we've had Anthem, BF2, and Cyberpunk come out since then and seen similar drama's play out. Somehow none of them seem to be quite the glorious disaster ACM was though XD

Alien Infestation. Yeah, I picked that one up years ago and it was pretty good too. Alien3-Metroidvania sort of game with Dark Horse comic visuals. Found it a bit too hard to be honest but enjoyable all the same.

Yes, I'd agree that Colonial Marines left a nasty taste in the mouths of players and its hard to blame them. Despite near universial acclaim, it even damaged sales for Alien Isolation, where some players refused to give Sega another chance. While it denied players a console sequel, Sega at least greenlit a decent mobile game that could have been awful but they chose a tried and tested genre that did the original Alien film justice.

One of the disappointing things about Isolation is that Amanda is reduced to running errands for everyone else but doesn't get any help herself. At least in Alien they work as a team to try to capture the chest burster, assist Dallas in navigating the vents and gather cooling tanks while another prepares the escape craft. When someone gets killed in Isolation its just part of the script, but if you lose a team member in Blackout then you begin to run out of options and the noose of fear tightens.

There's still some time to fine tune Fireteam and hopefully we could be looking at another decent addition to the Alien library of games.

Edit: Actually, Amanda does get help from Axel in the beginning but alas, he is dispatched far too early. Shame as he was the most interesting character Amanda gets to meet....

Watched the IGN 20 or so minute video. Outside of the shotguns, the weapons have no impact. The smartgun, which is a LMG (or perhaps even bigger), just feels like a super soaker.

Then add Sega's absolute lie of a marketing campaign, demos that were in no way indicative of the final game, the general lies of Randy Pitchford (who lies all the time because he literally cannot do anything else), and then the post-launch blame game, and it's a wonder they released a game that functioned at all.
