You could just put them in a Supreme Command detachment instead and save yourself the CP though.

The rule specifically states that the LoW in the SHAD can't be your Warlord if you
want the 2CP refund. If you want to use Gulliman or Morty, put them in a Supreme Command Detachment. It's free, after all, instead of 1CP.

Most LoW that can be a warlord are supreme command or primarchs, so you would always use the supreme command detachment. I guess if there was a way to make like a tank commander baneblade or something this might be an issue, but I don't think there is a LoW that is not a supreme command or primarch.

Any model can be nominated as your WARLORD, but only a CHARACTER can have a Warlord Trait.
Two Monoliths it's it! Nominating one as a Warlord means 2 Monoliths would be 4 CP.
While mustering your army, you can nominate one model (except a model with the FORTIFICATION keyword) to be your Warlord. That model gains the WARLORD keyword. If this model is a CHARACTER, you can also assign a Warlord Trait to it.
You could make a random Guardsman, or Scarab, Grot, or C'tan(despite being a CHARACTER, they don't geta Warlord Trait due to a rule they have).
SPORELORD!

Well it would be nice to have more options, then a thunder hawk and Draigo. Maybe something from the lore like psi knights, or a draigo mounted in an NDK or failing that the master of the master of the 6th with his 500+ servitors he teleports on to enemy positions before the attack or failing that the master of the 5th with his bodyguard of 20 Sanctum Guards mounted in a modified bigger NDK suit.
If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I really don't see a reason why they don't just give GK access to the other loyalist fw units, at least the vehicles, like they gave DG and 1ksons access to the CSMfw units.

Can't you take any Adeptus Astarties LOW? Since that's a shared keyword that isn't Imperium?

are all LoW you can now field "for free" with your GK.
inb4 : but those are all FW !!!11!!
I like to think Karol was just expressing concern for the poor factions that actually don't have superheavies. You know, like Ynnari, Harlequins and Drukhari, and I will say that we do appreciate his concern.
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

But what if you want to bring a 2nd Primarch?
Morty in Supreme detachment as warlord (mandated), you could add the AUX LOW of Magnus costing only 1cp on the basis of heretic astartes keyword.
Right?
Not sure how competitive that'd be...

Might work for a few weeks, but it's pretty much guaranteed that once 1ksons get their new codex Magnus will have the same the same "Must be your Warlord" rule as Mortarion. So that problem will go away. Thankfully.

Mmm, the only problem with this is that you won't get your subfactions bonuses (Klan, chapter, regiment) for the LOW this way. Depending on your battleplan that may not matter but sometimes those buffs go a long way.

Honestly, never understood why the LOW in a Super Heavy Aux does not get Subfaction traits if its the same Subfaction as your Warlord, that would fix this issue slightly and perhaps make them slightly more viable. Sure slap a -1 CP tax on LOW, but honestly a Baneblade should out gun it Russ Counterparts substantially, I shouldn't feel like I'm giving my opposition a huge leg up by taking a Stompa in my list. A monolith should fit into a Necron Army like a Glove, not be a huge floating liability because it can't float over some Sandbags.
TBH I am of the opinion that if a LOW ends it movement upon a barricade/obstacle, it should just flatten it. Instead of having them be just stopped, have the LOW simply displace it and either just ignore the unstable position rule, or just simply remove the barricade when they end their move over it, unless they have fly.

Ok, looks lke GW is making things either too simple, too complex or too unclear, so let me see how this is supposed to work.
I have a necron army of dynasty X. I assign a CCB as a warlord, and then take a monolith for a final cost of 1cp. What changes for my CCB warlord? Nothing? He can't take dynasty x special rules? What?

Nothing changes for your Warlord, or anything else in your army. Your LoW just doesn't get Dynasty traits. Nothing in Auxiliary Detachments gets faction traits. Doesn't make a difference for CSM, our Legion traits only apply to INFANTRY, BIKES, and HELLBRUTES anyway.

I'm sorry but I have no idea what you're talking about. I simply said that the singular problem I have with this change is that I won't get things like Deffskulls re-rolls/invul on a killtank.

If a Monolith did it would take Szarekhan - picking up a reroll to wound on death rays/whip, a 5+++ vs MW, and protocols which could be stacked to double heal the monolith. Toss in a Chrono for a 5++ and you might exceed the points of the monolith and create an ecosystem where there's only one condition you would take one.
Again for context I am not calling this the most broken thing ever, but there are points to consider as to why this might be a better approach - this will not be true of all LoWs given options available to them. Obviously Cog knights can do it, but that carries its own restrictions.

If it was "Your LoW has the same traits as your Warlord", then I'd imagine that combo-wombo'ing LoWs with the best Dynasty (or whatever) rather than the Dynasty your army actually has would be less of an issue.

Aren't Command Protocols like loyalists Angels of Death rules? Which means Monoliths get them. Command Protocols is on the datasheet. So the healing thing works. And the 5++ does too, Chronomancers just need a target <DYNASTY> unit. But that's cool, my Sorcerer works on my Fellblade just fine too.
Edit: Agreed with H.B.M.C.
